Currently have a 10.5" AR pistol with law folder and flash can on it in the the front passenger side floor board of my Ford Focus. Considering moving it to the trunk and adding a 45 hi cap pistol for the front seat. IF I'm moving it to the trunk, I'm considering going with a 16" 556 or a 9" 300 blackout. Any real reason to stick with the 10.5" 556 if I'm moving it to the trunk? Would the 16" 556 or 9" 300 be better for a "SHTF", Get Home, Zombie, Riot, or other emergency use? I doubt I'd ever need it, but if I did, I'd imagine it would be used at less than 100" yards.

Minimum 14.5 if you are staying with 5.56 and storing it somewhere it can be “long”. Getting your velocity back up can help you reach out to 550 pretty easily. For .300 do however short you wanna roll

I say 9" 300blk. It would still be handy to be able to transport it in a bag if you needed to do some movement on foot.

Even in that proverbial shtf scenario, there may be plenty of sceneries where walking around with a full size rifle is a terrible idea.

An easily concealed handgun is the best choice for getting home in my opinion.

In the case of zombies the guy with gun gets eat first. And the guy with the knife and a stick is allways the last man standing. 🤣 but with the short barrel 300blk and a can you wouldn't have to worry about drawing more zombies to your ao. Which is the primary reason the guy with gun allways dies first. If going with 5.56 I would do like said above and go with atleast 14.5 inch barrel or like you mentioned 16 inch. And one thing about the 5.56 caliber is in any type of shtf scenario 5.56 and 223 will be more readily available then 300blk or some of the other more specialized/nitch calibers. If you had to take someone down who was also carrying an ar15 style gun more then likely it will be in 5.56/223. So easier to replenish ammo and parts.

Eh…go with whatever makes you comfortable.

I think any of the choices you listed are fine and I’d say the same, had you said you were contemplating carrying a lever action 30-30.

I have a suppressed 10.3”/5.56 rig I keep in the vehicle. Small, light, I can roll it up it a jacket and strap it to the side of my pack, should I have to hoof it.

5.56 just for the ammo availability in scenario, I personally ride around with my 16in ar 5 56 with sling eotech and a streamlight.

I use my SBR, a 7.5” Sig556 gas gun upper on M4 Lower. Acog is quick, 77 grain SMK’s have no problem hitting steel at 400 yards. Muzzle velocity is only 2100fps, but they work just fine.

Curious, do you live in your car and is it permanently parked under an overpass?
I’m joking, but the question is how do you handle all that hardware when you aren’t in the car, or are getting in and out 10 times a day?
A rifle in the trunk makes sense to me, as does having the handgun you routinely carry with you in the car, but a handgun dedicated to the passenger compartment seems almost pointless. Yes a full sized handgun gives you capabilities that your tiny pocket gun does not, but if you can’t fight to your trunk with a pocket gun then you repeatedly failed situational awareness 101 and should submit to the zombies on principal.
