A buddy sold me a B-14 stock I put on my .30-06 Rem 700. Ultimately I’ll put the walnut stock back on since it has sentimental value but I need to bed and float it - the B-14 stock will let me work up an optimal load.

Ultimately it doesn’t matter while I’m at the range and shooting out of a box, but it didn’t come with a magazine and I can’t figure out what pattern it uses. It’s not the typical AICS long action mag even though that’s how it’s advertised (thanks for the no-question returns, Bass Pro). Any chance one of y’all has already figured this out?

Will the load you work up in that composite stock be the same as your wood stock? I’d just go ahead and open up that barrel channel and bed that barreled receiver in your walnut stock and roll on to load development. It shouldn’t take more than a few hours to get to the point the bedding is curing for 24 hrs.

The bedding, tension in the screws, stiffness of the stock all seem like they would contribute to the loads being different in your two configurations.

They will be different
No dispute on this matter. Really just trying to get in the neighborhood right now. It’s a 1975 so there was more copper in there than the Philadelphia mint in 1924. So I’ll get that squared away in time. For now I just need to find a dang magazine.

Theoretically, this is the magnum mag well. So, I think it is the case that it fits AICS specs at the point of contact, but there must be some sort of proprietary sizing. Ultimately I think I’ll just order something bergara manufactures.
I think there might be 2 different ones, a long action and magnum.

7mm PRC would fit in a Long Action, but 300 Win Mag wouldnt. Could be mistaken, Ive only had experiences with short actions with Bergara stuff. Though I do want a 7mm PRC at some point.

My main problem (beyond my baseline ignorance, which is not insubstantial), is that I bought the stock from a friend of a friend. So, I am 98% sure it came off a 300WM. This obviously lets me fit a Rem 700 in .30-06 into the stock with no fit problem, but I am not even confident .30-06 would cycle through the magazine I'd have to get to fit the plate.

In the end I think I just need to come to a sensible solution: put my .30-06 back in the original walnut since I'm happy with the fit and finish of my barrel float. Then, it's time to just find someone who wants to sell me their 300WM in Rem 700!
