Does anyone have experience selling a guitar to guitar center? How bad do they hit on value? If a used guitar usually sells in the market place, how low are they on an offer?

It’s been years but my buddy’s brother worked at one. He would buy stuff from people in the parking lot that had turned down GC offers. I ended up with a nice Warwick that way. Can’t speak to todays practices but I’d expect below market to pawn shop style offers. But times have changed and everything is pricey. Good luck!

It's pretty bad. It's definitely not 60 percent. Depending what you have you might be better of selling to a reputable non-chain music store. Especially if it's something collectible they would want it for their collection rather than resale.

I’d bet GC offers you 30-50% less than what you could get selling it yourself. Post it up here to see of there’s any interest before taking it to GC. And/or, see what they offer you then post it here.

Just sold a MIM Strat to them. I purchased it new 9 years ago, it was pristine, they paid me about $45 more than I paid for it.
I really wanted that Strat of yours. Glad you got more than you paid for it.

I would be looking at the Greensboro store. I've got a Martin DM from the 90's, an Alvarez 12 string and a The Loar 700 mandolin that I'm thinking about selling. The guitars I'm definitely going to sell, the mandolin I might hold onto for a while longer. Not sure.

Have you thought about checking with the Music Barn on Chapman St?

I can check with them. Are they consignment or do they buy?
I assumed they did both. They’re a small outfit but very popular.

If you don’t mind me askin, which store?
Hey Day Vintage Guitars. It's on Brookstown near Marshall St in Winston.

Looks like the Martin is going from $600-$800 used. The Alvarez, i'd figure $350ish (12 strings tend to sit for a while. Not quick sellers). The Loar is in the same range as the Martin. Expect to get half of those numbers or less if you take it to GC or Music Go Round.

I have sold to GC before with decent results it always depended on what employee I was dealing with to be honest
