I'm looking for someone who specializes in firearms of this era to fix a hammer follow issue. I'm pretty sure it's related to the new CMP stock not being fitted properly but I'm not comfortable working on that. I've had the rifle for a few years since I received it and only recently shot it enough to discover the issue.
Pics/vid album, individual parts linked in each detail
Details:
* trigger doesn't reset some times, at least once a clip and sometimes more often
* Hammer follows bolt home (no double+ fires yet thankfully)
* ejects and loads next round successfully, locks open after ejecting clip
* Rifle is from CMP with a new CMP stock
* sear hooks had some oil on them (no grease), removed oil with a q-tip for testing
* trigger works fine outside of the receiver/stock, resets if trigger is pulled back fully or not (pic 1, pic 2)
* Are the locking lugs for the trigger pack supposed to have a flat spot? (pic 1 right side, pic 2 left side)
* had to slightly deepen the corner of #4 for trigger pack to lock without an excessive amount of force (it was too round) but i still have to use a decent amount of force to lock it. I've gotta flip it over and put my arm into it to latch it which leads me to believe I need to relieve somewhere on the stock
* trigger works fine without the stock and in the receiver but I have to push it in at the rear for the sears to work as expected. How much play should there be once it's locked into the receiver? vid. It does not slide front to rear, only see saws.
* magazine area fits the stock measurement here on p11 (pic, 1.71") but the rear (near the grip) is larger than the max value (pic 1, 1.72", pic 2) and is my current suspect but I haven't marked it with something to verify it's making contact or not. That's my plan for tomorrow, mark with some marker and see where it touches.
* There's a lot of compression marks at the rear of the magazine area but I don't see much where the trigger tang goes, tang being the current suspect. (pic)
* Removed stock, trigger group in receiver, pushing trigger side towards receiver results in correct function, pulling away from receiver and the hammer can't quite reach the disconnector sear.
* it resets fine if I'm not holding the trigger back but fails every time if I'm holding the trigger to the rear. It's gotta be something to do with how the disconnector is positioned.
* I've manually verified those GI spec numbers (max distance 1.675 to tang area) as the farthest it can be and still hook on the disconnector. Mine is too far away and the stock is out of spec by .045" past max
I'm currently considering filing the area marked B on the CMP fitment dock mentioned above and here (p2). Any ideas before I mess with my stock? I've been reading the CMP forums for similar things but it's kind of a mess there.
