Went to Discount Tire at noon to have tires rotated and balanced, easy peasy. There's a guy that has his truck in a bay being serviced and is talking to a another guy about the truck. I can over hear the conversation and the owner is bragging that he pays 850.00 per month for the truck and another 300.00 per month for the rims and tires. The rims and tires aren't anything special in my opinion but $1150.00 a month for a friggen truck?? I can't imagine how in hell he managed that because the truck (F250) wasn't anything out of the ordinary.
I guess I'm old school......

That's about what my mortgage was when I had one.

It is obscene what trucks cost these days. The club was going to raffle of an F 150 until the wholesale cost was to high to risk it. And we are talking construction grade, 4wd, 4 door.

They are expensive if you need the Capt. Kirk deluxe command center model with the automatic ball warmers in the driver's seat. If you can "get by" with a slightly better than run of the mill interior and just a few frills in the console (touch screen with bluetooth and Apple/Google car play is pretty standard now), you can get off the lot for $30-$40k.

Last truck I bought was a 2018. I ordered it and it took 5 weeks to get here. Short bed. single cab, power windows and doors, cruise, 3:73 rear end, 10 speed auto with a 395 HP 5.0 V8. Out the door price was $26,150.

Lives at home with his parents

Had what appeared to be a wife with him..... Maybe I'm just waaay out of touch with truck payments but I don't see it being worth THAT much. Now maybe if it was one of the $96,000.00 GMC's I saw at Mynette's a few weeks ago I could understand but this was a stock 250 Ford.....

No mention of insurance cost per month. Sounds about right.

I don't even tell my friends about my bills much less talk about it with strangers. My car payment, or if I even have a car payment, is NONYA.

When was the last time you checked? As of last summer, wholesale was at the top of that. But to be viable we needed 4x4 and crew cab. That’s where the wholesale sky rocketed. Dealers are having a hard time moving standard cabs.

Must have traded in upside down big time. Those tires will be bald before he pays the rims off.

Its a big feeding cycle. You need dewy-eyed buyers to pony up the big bucks to buy vehicles with bling wheels they cant afford so that Banks and Manufacturers make their profit targets and satisfy the stockholders and those of all of the suppliers in the Auto industry, who then spend their money on other stuff they also don't need so that other industries and their stockholders are happy. Then the stockholders, 401k and pension plan investors get some profit bucks that they also spend someplace , spreading the peanut butter even further with small businesses everywhere. Politicians then tax the crap out of all of this so they can in turn spend it on stupid contracts that pump that money back into yet other pockets.

One man's ceiling is another mans floor, so we need big spenders out there to feed all the little fish in the ocean.

Every time I see someone recklessly throwing down large coin on consumer goods I have two reactions: Not no way, no how I'd personally do that, and Thank You for Shopping.

Hard to find standard cabs these days, something about mileage regs.

Priorities man, yours are either the future or the moment.

And this is what is wrong with our society today ...

I bet he has a nice little credit card debt to add to those OP payments. I am not against enjoying things but financial stability is a thing of the past to a huge of this country’s population. I am not cheap ... I say thrifty ... and I know what my financial constraints are and live within them. I would love to buy expensive vehicles and go on dream vacations but life ain’t getting cheaper and the dollar keeps getting weaker ...

I’d never finance rims. Auto loan absolutely... .9%-1.9% is essentially free money for Those with portfolios making anything near that... which a high yield savings account nets you close to that.

I don't see where it's a bit of my business what he does with his money.
Not in the immediate sense, no.

But his, along with millions of others’ failures to responsibly manage their money, will in some way impact you eventually (if it hasn’t already).

Few months ago. Granted, I was pricing fleet vehicles, but I got no special treatment from the salesmen. Prices ranged from $31k to mid-$40’s (depending upon how long it had been sitting on the lot—the ones with excessive pine needles/leaves on them were notably cheaper) for a 4x4, 4-door, V6 F-150 with nothing more than a FX package. Most salesmen told me a guy off the street could get pretty much the same price.

I love cars, I love motorcycles (and guns and records etc).
But, that said, I cant see myself spending that much a month on ANYTHING except my mortgage!
What Ive seen in the past, and this aint everyone, but they put so much into a vehicle (or vehicles), but their homes are crap.
Yeah, I'd rather INVEST in my home/property than that much into a truck or car etc

Just wild spending almost a grand a month on a truck. And paying 300+ a month on your WHEEL payment lol

Everybody want's crew cabs. Had a buddy looking a while back. The salesman tried his best to move him into a standard cab. Finally admitted they had trouble moving them.

Not sure what the difference was, though we were looking at V8. Construction grade, no carpet, very basic interior. We were $36k to $41k right at wholesale with the one we really wanted (4x4, 4 door, v8) falling right about $38k. The dealer was the SIL of a board member. Sales volume might be at play here too.

yeah, sounds to me like the monthly payment must be the inverse of his credit score. Can’t see how vehicle could be that much and not be special like the Raptor or something, unless you get the worst interest rate imaginable.

I really, really have wanted a new truck for a few years. I am not a true car or truck fanatic but could use a truck for my mountain trips. And I ain’t getting any younger. Need to start checking boxes. But the whole put your money in appreciating assets and not depreciating assets phrase keeps repeating in my head. So I have no debt other than my house and less stuff than my credit rating would allow. Oh well. I’ll cabe at some point and buy my truck.

Life is short. If you have enough to be comfortable then go for it.

People invest their time, money, and energy into a number of things. I work extremely hard so I’m going to at least enjoy the rewards of that.

You may not appreciate it but the money I spend on college and 2 travel teams for v-ball for my little one would blow your mind. If I didn’t consider it anti-stripper pole money I’d question my financial sanity. Ok, I DO question my sanity. But this crap could buy a few of those nice, shiny electric cars. Oh well, I’ll likely die young anyway so the family might as well be happy and well cared for.

I can appreciate it. All I was trying to say is everyone’s needs, wants, and financials situations are different. Disregard the depreciating asset and get the truck.

Well I did tell my wife and kids that the only person in the house with a budget is the only person with a full time job. I heard lots of crickets. :D

Oooo and you’re still alive after that?!?

Not sure it really registered with the Mrs. The older one gave me the big eyes. Think it hit her that her free car options will be limited. The little one has no clue and everything she wants at her age. She has trips to Florida, Gulf Shores, AL and CA planned for this summer. Plus maybe a SC trip. And that doesn’t count her v-ball trips from now until June. She has a steady series of hotels and friends planned. Living the dream. I really should have never had sex. :(

Meh, dont kill yourself over it. Its not like your buying short-lived disposable items of little intrinsic value for the kids--much unlike my wife (handbags and such)--but life experiences she will be fond of and talk about for decades.

I can't wait to get a mountain or remote property here to start building that 'retreat' my kids can inherit one day and grow up having. Some of the best memories I had as a childhood were going up to my friends family weekend house in the Poconos of PA. Snowboarding, fires, shooting guns, mountain saloon style burger bars, music on the freezing snow covered porch, getting drunk off his dads liquor while they were passed out....Honestly it was some of the best times of my life (and probably fueled my mountain fetish). The point is, you are not just buying some disposable Paw Patrol figurine, you're buying your kids lasting memories. Ya sound like a great dad mate.

I bought my dream truck in 2010... I said I would ride it till the wheels feel off.... they have not.. yet.

Still a good running, good looking truck. My wife tried to get me one of those Roush 4x4's a few years ago. Hell no... the best thing about my truck is that it's paid for!

And.. while it's pretty... I have taken it hunting, use on the farm, hell... a bull serviced a cow by pinning her against the side of it one time back in 2013...

Took her through the creek the other day... no problems.... now why would I want to spend the equivalent of a daughters Bachelor's degree on a new one....
