Did You Go Shooting Today

I shot Billy's p938 some more today, I still like it, and I still have one at the top of my list. Awesome gun to shoot.

Also shot the Glock he has with the 3# trigger, so I "can see what a good trigger feels like" he said, since I'm always fussing about the trigger on my G19! It really is a totally different feeling.

We did shoot today, it was the new G44 making its debut. We didn't have much sunlight left but we made the most of what we had. Everyone here today took turns making the steel ring. :)

Besides myself, it was my wife, daughter, son-in-law, grandson, and granddaughter. I think I may have just lost this Glock to my granddaughter who is 8 years old. She loves it... that and my 15-22. Come to think of it, I may have lost the 15-22 also. lol The rest of the clan already has their own favorites but they really enjoyed the G44 as well.

We had just enough time to put 100 flawless rounds downrange. I'll plan the range day better next time and take some pics.

Shot in a registered trap event on Sunday. Another class win for me making this the third in a row and 4 out of the last 6 events that I have entered. Also won in handicaps (short division) but also tied with another shooter who won in the long division. We ended up in a shoot off to determine the "overall" winner of handicaps and I lost by one shot! My handicap win earned me a 'punch' where I now have to shoot from the 20-1/2 yard line. A great day on the trap field!

Seems the shop was donated a Khyber Pass Russian PM Makarov pistol while I've been out and about. Coworker said it had no mag or ammo, I just smiled, walked outside, opened up my foreign ammo locker and pulled out a ammo can of 500 rds of Wolf 9x18mm and 3 magazines, two still in plastic bags :) Went to the range and we each fired a 8 rd magazine thru it. Safety extremely hard to operate but it does work and DA/SA trigger is decent. Best part is the gun didn't go full auto which does sometimes happen with these copies as the parts are made with soft steel.

Some .40 S&W therapy today at TSA with the Beretta Px4, S&W 990L and the H&K P30 police trade, this pistol shoots real good.
BONUS TCM22 9R barrel in my Glock 22. :) This is LOUD and what a ring of fire. Will bring it next trip to Battery Oaks.

I did and I saw some odd things. One guy next to me had his Glock 19 lock up with a round in the chamber but the gun not fully in battery. A convention of range monkey including the range officer surrounded the gentleman. They all took turns trying to disassemble the gun with the round still in it. Which of course they were not able to do. I went over to my rang bag took out the screw driver from my kit and handed it to the owner. I said point it down range and whack it with the rubber plastic handle until it goes into battery. First he starts to hold it by the side. I tell him I wouldn't do that. He asked did I want to do it. I said no its not my gun LOL. He then held it by the grip and with a few good whacks the gun went into battery. I took my screw driver and returned to my bay.

From there they tired to eject the round. None could get it out. Head pokes around. Can you look at this thing again. So I go over and look at it. Grab the slide firm grip on the frame drive the frame forward with the strong hand and retract the slide with my weak hand and pop out comes the round. It as Winchester White box and the crimp on the bullet looked like it had been put through a shredder. It was all jagged and ragged. It have no idea what it looked like going in but it look like crap coming out. From there he loaded up and continued shooting.

That however was not the best thing I saw today at the range. A women a bay or two down from the Glock 19 somehow managed to disengage her takedown lever thinking it was the safety. She then proceeded to fire a round which sent her slide 4 ft down range. I look over and in front of her bay lying on the concert is her stainless steel slide on the concrete. :( The same couple has a 22 LR pistol with an adjustable rear sight. They were messing with the elevation on the rear sight trying to correct their poor shooting and the loosened the set screw enough that they launched it... guess where about 4 ft forward down range. The couple was at the range so they could practice for their concealed carry class this weekend so at least I can take comfort that these 2 will be legally carrying a pistol in the near future.o_O

Finally I did!
Met a forum member at Jim's and we shot my 1911s, and his Sig "new gun with a number I forgot already"! I'm old, get over it. MP40? Something-40? Nice big grip, but a tad lively for my girl hands. Edit: M18, I wasn't even close!

The RIA 9mm had a few of its usual issues, no biggie, he still liked it. As do I.

I think he might have fallen a little in love with the Springfield in .45! I heard "wow" a few times.

I learned some stuff about my revolver for when I do a match with it. I have some work to do at home with it.....lol.

Millie, nice to meet you ! Have somebody explain to you what a "bowling pin gun" is sometime; that's what the Springfield you have is. Whoever the first owner was, they knew their stuff on that trigger !

The more I think about it; I think your 9mm RIA issue is a spring issue, or the ramp needs polishing, or you just need some "url" in your life ! Url is our friend, 1911s like to run with plenty of it. I'm wondering if the recoil spring on your 9mm is just a tad too underpowered for reliable battery, or your mag springs are not forcing the round up with enough oomph. But, I'm leaning towards the recoil spring as your issue. It wouldn't cause a problem often, just enough to make it unreliable. The extraction and ejection is fine, it just wouldn't always feed with authority. I watched you closely, you're not limp-wristing it. A stronger recoil spring would make it return into battery with a stronger snap, which should pick up the round every time and fix the problem. Either try a wolff spring or see if running a hotter 9mm load gives you better results.

Again, really nice to meet you finally ! Now, go clean those guns !!!!!

It only took us a year(ish) to get to the range, right? LOL.
The guns may or may not get cleaned tonight.....
As to "bowling pin gun," you could tell me about it.....

The ramp on the RIA was polished a while ago, that's the first thing the guys tried. Might try the spring idea. Can't hurt. That gun is soooo nice, even with "issues"....lol.

It was 44 Magnum day at the plate rack. I used Cowboy loads so I would not destroy the targets or go home with a crippled hand. I had a Ruger Alaskan and three S&W revolvers. Love those 44 revolvers. Next week I might take out some single action 44 Magnums for some fun. I shot one of my 10/22s at falling animals and a S&W 308 AR at swinging steel out to 400 yards. I also ran two magazines through the 365 that I carry. A fun day.

Only 3ea 15 rd mags out of a Turkish pistol. Gun has a selector :)

CD

ETA
The item that looks like a SIG decocking lever is the selector. Down for Semi, Up for Auto. Also you can modify standard USGI M9 mags by cutting a new mag catch slot in body to work.

Does a lowly middle class man have enough means to convince you (wink) to fill out the lost item documentation and take that home for me? Theres some nice, crispy Jeffersons in it for ya!

My wife and I went up to Point Blank Range in Mooresville this morning. We fired 300 rounds out of our S & W 22C.

Finally got around to field testing the new Harrison Extreme Duty rear sight on my Springfield 9mm 1911. Thanks to the fine work by Tom Beliveau, I am getting on target and hitting what I'm shooting at with better speed and accuracy. The install required fitting that I was not equipped to do, and Tom opened up the u-notch slightly at my request, threw in a thorough deburring on the sight's sharp edges and even tweaked a few ounces out of the trigger. All in all, a worthwhile investment!

Went and shot about 200 rounds in the G48 this afternoon, and a few in the 1911, which I completely destroyed I think. I'll have someone have a look at it soon, maybe I'm not doing something I should, but I can't get the slide to move....lol.

I did a lot better with the Glock today, and I really like it a lot. It did give me an issue or two, but not like the RIA does it. On this one the slide stayed closed, but the gun didn't fire. I racked the slide and the round popped out.

The slide still isn't locking open on the last round from either of the 15 round magazines, but I'm choosing to look at it as a good thing, at least for now: When I have an empty magazine, at least I'm not seeing the front of the gun dip when I pull the trigger!

It seems I can make anything malfunction, or outright refuse to work at all.

Attended the Southern Defensive Pistol league match in Wilkes today.
Year before last I got my knee done, last year was mostly recovery only shot 4 matches last year total.
This year I promised myself no excuses.
I had the crud for the past two weeks and my wife asked me not to go.But I went anyway,
gotta get back to were I was as far my shooting skills are concerned.

Still have everything low because the woods is my backstop. Nothing goes more than a few feet in.
Will probably replace that cardboard with some steel soon.

Only about 15 yards, so the cardboard circles felt all my AR shots. Steel caught most of my 9mm.

I also sent a few 5.56 shots from this noisy little corridor between my house and my garage at ~50 yards.

Simple drill - click off safety while raising rifle from low ready and put a hole in each cardboard circle. sling it. draw 9mm and make steel targets go "clang". reholster. slow as i wanted each time.

And yes, I did hang more steel there at the end.

Shot steel with my 3914DAO and VP9SK a bit this afternoon while @MacEntyre made some single action revolver noise. I was pretty proud of my shooting ‘til he asked me, “Were you actually aiming at that one?” :(

Yes. Got to meet another CFF member today, @falconew. We met up at PHA, along with @Zbizzle911 and his wife and son.

Let’s see what I can remember...

.410 upper on AR lower (pics/vid/discussion in another thread)
12” 5.56 SBR w/ Saker 762
4.5” 15-22 w/ F1 can
7” 9mm SBR w/ Octane 45
4” 9mm AR pistol with F1 can

Maybe a 300BLK bolt gun with Harvester? Maybe it was 308?

.224 Valkyrie AR, tried the Omega 300, Saker 762 and Turbo
.308 bolt gun with Harvester and then either the Saker or Omega

I also shot five mags through the LE trade-in G23 I bought a month or so ago. I think there was a 1911 shot, and not sure what else.

I did get to see the 6.5 Tikka. And we let Zach’s little one shoot the 15-22.

Then we wrapped up by doing something completely useless, and completely overkill. 5 shots prone from a newly acquired 338 Lapua...at clays set at ~35 yards. :D

...and as I typed that all out I remembered I never shot the AR57 pistol I intended to shoot a couple rounds through. :(

Pretty much everything he said. But I also shot my para double stack 9mm. What a great day.

to quote a little kid. THAT SOUNDS LIKE AMERICA.

I shot about 15 rounds in the G48 at Battery Oaks today! Always a happy place for me to be.

Yep JR and the Mrs went with me today. Ran my Glock 45 for a bit and the Mrs shot her Glock 43. Jr shot his Rascal and then we shot my 12.5" ar and my 308 bolt gun both suppressed. On the way out we stopped at the 22 range and shot the FVSR suppressed for fun too.

Had not shot in a couple of weeks, so I just had to get out and go PEW PEW.

Went to Frontline. I had just bought a couple of Beretta 96 mags and wanted to check them for function in my Beretta, and also in a Sub 2K that takes Beretta mags. Shot about 150 rounds of .40. Flawless in both. At 25 yards, the Sub 2K is a LOT more accurate than the Beretta.

I also took my 9mm AR carbine, since I had not shot that in a while. I only shot it at 25 yards, about 50 rounds, and had one hole groups with it.

I've made it a habit to take my EDC out and put a few rounds through it each time I go to the range. That little Sig 938 is pretty accurate, I was doing head shots on a steel silhouette @ 15 yards. 6 o'clock hold, though, I have to set the top of the front sight on the neck to hit the head.

It was a good day to be out making gun smoke.

Oh yeah...and another shout out to Mike for sponsoring our range trip. :D
