After being stuck with DSL for the last 8 years (we had hughesnet before that). We are finally getting cable here at the house soon. The
Contractor is actually burning the cable now so we should her it hooked up before too long.

Long story short I called spectrum 2 years ago and they told me $4k to get it to my house. No go there. Then back in December my neighbor 2nd house over called. They told him the same but the tech that did serviceability said to get together and they’d lower the cost.

Essentially the more people they hook up the more of the cost they eat. The combined order took us down to $1300 total for us both. We then talked to the neighbor in between us and after a few emails with the regional manager got it approved for no out of pocket expense.

Seeing them bury the cable today makes it a realizations that this will actually happen. As a tech enthusiast and a social media manager/photographer that uses a lot of bandwidth, this makes me giddy! So excited to get something better that 20/2 down/up speeds.

I’ve also ordered the new ubiquity dream machine in anticipation of faster internet.

I might need to call a tech...982 up just ain’t cuttin’ it. I’m working from home and my son is playing Minecraft online with some friends.

We had been surviving on 3MB DSL before we got gig fiber a couple years ago. I would’ve loved to have been able to get 20MB. :D

Is there a specific number you called to get that info? I'm sure most of our neighborhood would love to pitch in to bring some better speeds.

No specific number. You can request a combined work order and try to get as many as possible when they do it.

In short the initial tech told us they allow roughly $3k worth of construction cost per home. It seemed to be relatively true but take that with a grain of salt.

For the record, 982 is the slowest I’ve ever seen it test. Usually it’s more like 1000/998 or 999/997.

But it did take us what seemed like forever to get upgraded considering we live inside Charlotte city limits. I couldn’t even upgrade to 6MB or 12MB DSL at the time.

I’m sure you’d know better than me but I’d guess the extra load with everyone being home is taking its toll [emoji1787][emoji1787]

Yeah, I live in a pretty rural area. It doesn’t help that my road pretty much is a dead end (first path with no houses on that end). I know it seems trivial to some but I’m genuinely excited for faster internet. The geek in me is sqeeing with glee.

To update: after 2-2hr phone calls tonight I finally have service scheduled for Thursday evening. Went with the 400/20 ultra plan. Seemed like the best bang for the buck. They do offer a “gig” which is 940/35. I’ll see how the 400 does and go from there.

I’d say this is sufficient internet. Able to get up to a gig down (940Mb) but don’t thing the cost to performance is there.
