Just a shout out to those older folks (of which I am one) and wondering how you are coping. Farthest I’ve been in 3 weeks is my mailbox!!! My daughter does our grocery shopping, and picks up any local pharmacy scripts we need.
I’m on 13 meds , my wife 9...Thank God forTriCare insurance!
My risk factors : Age 74, Heart disease, Diabetes, Emphysema, COPD ( CPAP machine)
This AM nurse from VA clinic called to inquire if I would have a “problem” rescheduling my Friday appointment to a “later” date? After laughing hysterically for damn near a full minute a was tempted to ask that rhetorical question concerning the ‘bear in the woods’...but alas I repressed the urge!
Well, long story short I’m slowly going bonkers... You can only sleep, read, and watch TV so much.
I don’t drink or self-medicate ( although if I chose to do the later, the VA has graciously provided me with a smorgasbord of options)
Anyway here’s hoping you all are dealing with cabin fever better than I...

My parents are 80. My mom just drove up from SC to pick up my son and take him back to her house for a couple weeks.

My old man will be flying in from Kansas on the first.

I am 72 and I got "sugar". That's what folks here call it. Stayin inside the Gates. Asking others to stay on the other side for a while. This time of gig is strange for me.....But I'll struggle through. Hung and painted some more steel this morning, then shot it! Mr. Bullitt is enjoying napping on the range in the sun, almost tempted to join him in the grass.
Ya'll stay safe and healthy, that's job 1 here.

I'm going on 68 and start prostate radiation Monday at Levine.
Other than that I'm staying at the house and cleaning and working on my toys ;)

I'm refining the practice of my latest career - that of full-time porch honky. (Yes, my rocking chair has a seat belt.)

I’m only 64, so I’m effectively not “high risk” ...YET.

Except my UNCW student is home finsishing grad school since the school is shut, after flying in from spring break 14 days ago. My oldest son has been working 11 hour days at the local gun store with the public every day, and his girlfriend who is in the grocery business comes over every night, and my wife works for the hospital.

I’m a gonner.

66, heart attack a few years back, auto immune disease that requires medication that drops my immune system to almost zero.
Still working, at least until wife can get Medicare, so I'm mostly working from home for two weeks now.
Been working every day for 50 years so most days I feel pretty useless, but trying to stay out of the public, waiting it out. Not complaining, just explaining.
This can't last forever.

Wow you do like livin’ on the edge!

A lot has been reported in media about the young folks that "think they're invincible", refusing to "get off the beach", not nixing the recreational socializing, etc.

Less reported, it seems, is that there also seems to be no shortage of "old folks" that have taken an attitude of "I've made it this long and this far without anyone telling me what to do, where and when to go, how to wash, and what to clean, so... well... OK ... "I'll only go out when absolutely necessary". Their routine now is spending their day thinking up "absolutely necessary" reasons to go somewhere, and then going. Every day. Maybe twice. I see it all around me. Kudos to all who are making a thoughtful effort to realize what a pain in the butt they're going to be to everyone else if they end up in the hospital .

My biggest fear in this is not dying. I’m square with my Maker, as far as I can tell, and I hope y’all are too. Happy to discuss off line if any care to.

There are over a million people in my metro area, and only 1700 beds in my local hospitals, 60-70% of which are normally occupied.

Going to the hospital is not a real option the way I see it. Even if you get in AND get a bed, you will receive care “common”, meaning no one can come to see you, the staff will be worn out and taxed, if not sick themselves, and I’d rather die in pain on my screen porch than alone in a hospital, possibly spreading this pestilence farther and wider than it already is..

My dad's girlfriend just got put in quarantine. So if he dies I just want it known I tried to get him laid before he kicks off. That old fart won't listen to a dang thing.

I’ve been joking with my 66 year old buddy that he should be at the airport kissing Chinese folks. You want to catch this quickly while there are still beds and ventilators available. A month from now might really suck.

Good luck to us all. I am technically high risk and out a few times a week in public. Rolling the dice and eating vitamins.

Another story of enduring this insufferable isolation that tries men's souls. How much longer can our psyches last? It's already been such a long and arduous number of years, months,... Weeks? Days?
Ummm... when was the emergency declared again? March 13th?

Just kidding. :D

Seriously, people are losing it already. I told my neighbor he might have married the wrong women. Even my 13 year old is still sane. How the Heck are adults losing their minds? A few weeks from now should be fun. Especially if people have lost income or jobs.

I'm old, nuff said. If I can sneak past the constabulary I'm gonna finish out my days at Village Point Lake and PHA.
Cop: Sir, aren't you supposed to be staying at home.
Me: Going to grocery store.
Cop: Sir, you're fishing at the lake.
Me: Yep.
Cop: Going to have to give you a citation.
Me: If you do I'll lick your face.
Cop: You have a nice day sir.

I’m an introvert and an amateur germ-o-phobe. I’ve been practicing for this my entire life.
yeah, some of us have been living this way for a while. I did supplemental testing on hiv/hepc/hepb/wnv when I was younger. Being the guy who handles known contagious blood has a way of teaching you how to be very clean and avoid people who insist they're perfectly fine but are spreading disease.
Joke's on me though. All the bleach we used back then did terrible things to my lungs, and now that makes me more susceptible to covid!

The really sobering thought as this virus progresses, medical facilities will continue to be taxed to the point where available treatment options are so scarce that the result will be civilian version of ‘combat triage’
ie: patients most likely to survive will receive critical priority.
Given my age/risk factors I’m under no illusion that my name will be on the ”short list”.
My sincere prayer is if the inevitable must happen that the Good Lord will take me first and spare my family and loved ones.

This is what played out in Italy more or less.

I'm old, but I don't think I have any conditions that make me more or less susceptible. But I'm probably just one Drs exam away from something or other going south. I've had a good run, so ready for whatever comes in a lot of ways.

I'm isolating as much as I can, but getting out for walks, prepping the garden, yard work etc. and enjoying the nice Spring weather. For me, being outdoors in nature takes the edge off and helps keep all this in perspective.
