Been out of the game for a few years. Been considering picking up a 9mm can to spend time on both pistols and sub guns/pcc. Before I got sidetracked from firearms I was looking at the rugged obsidian 9. I see the new wolfman getting a lot of good feedback for sub gun use but looks pretty bulky for pistols. Any suggestions?

How quiet do you want it? There are small 9mm cans out there but they're not going to be as quiet as the "bulky" cans. They make expandable cans now too. So you can keep it small for pistol and extend it for rifle?

So many options these days. Hard to go wrong with any of the reputable companies. It's not like there's great strides being made in suppressor technology.

I don't actually have a dedicated 9mm suppressor, but I'm sure some of the NFA heads will be along shortly...

I like the modularity of some of the stuff out there. Short for practicality, long for real quiet stuff. I basically want something that would be efficient for both uses. If money wasn't an object I'd buy a wolfman for dedicated sub gun use and something like the obsidian for pistols and I may actually do that down the road but for now I'd just like something that I can have fun and plink with on either application. I don't need a can rated for 300 blk as I already have an omega but the fact that you can shoot supersonic 556 and stuff through the wolfman is pretty cool.

Ive been in the silencer market for 25+ years now. The form 1 can world is wide open these days. 1 month versus 10-12 months for approval and the Chinese "fuel filters" or "solvent traps" plus 20 minutes or less worth of hole drilling are 90% or better of what you can buy off the shelf. And at 1/10 the price tag.

Disclaimer: I used to be a 02/07 manufacturer.

OK. Heres the deal. Legally when you build a form 1 can its a one time thing. Build and done. Any problems down the line you need to have an 02/07 fix it for you. Blow up a baffle you legally need to send it to have it fixed.

As for me...I am not a 02/07 now and havent been for a decade. Next can I build will be on a form 1. It will be a Chinese " solvent trap" or " fuel filter" as found on ebay. I will drill through K Baffle ( solvent cup ) and do a slight side cut to disturb flow in the baffle stack. Thats it. Assemble and run with a ($90) 3 lug adapter on an HK pattern 3 lug barrel setup,. The silencer will cost me about $60 plus $200 for the stamp and $90 for the 3 lug adapter. EZPZ

Yankee hill machine just came out with a 9mm can that retails for about 450 but its large in diameter, similar in size to the wolfman. There are tons of good options in the 1.375 diameter handgun cans.

I'm not opposed to a form 1. The quick turnaround would be nice but having to figure out the booster stuff to work on pistols and not really knowing where to start is my only reservation.

I only have one can and it's a 9mm that I use for 9, 300blk, and 22. I happen to like 40 now especially with all the cheap surplus weapons and kick myself repeatedly for not getting it in 40. You can always put it on something smaller but obviously not larger and it's illegal to alter it. I didn't realize how fast and cheap the form 1 solution is so I'll be looking into that for sure, thanks Wired for that info.

There are several companies selling tubes, ends and "things" that can be center drilled to act as baffles. Lets cut the crap. Theyre baffles. You can also buy boosters and 3 lug caps for the same tubes. Get a form 1, buy the stuff, get the tube engraved , drill the holes and call it a day. Lots of people do it and the ATF knows lots of people do it.

Where would one shop for form 1 suppressor parts?

They are not suppressor parts. They are oil filters or fuel filters or solvent traps. If you so choose to make one into a suppressor that is your decision after filing an ATF form 1. Ebay or amazon . ebay has a habit of pulling the ads within a few days for some weird reason? Theres are dozens of designs. Some of them superficially resemble a silencer. Something like this...

I like the battery filter thing. Thats funny. One thing to note. Some of them especially the monocore versions do not need any work to be done to them and can be used as is. They are silencers and unless you are running 9mm through them are going to be very inefficient as the bore size is huge for a .22. I personally wouldnt want one of those around my place. The ATF doesnt seem to be knocking down doors these days but I'd still want a stamped form 1 in my hand before taking possession of one of those. The ones that need actual work done I wouldnt be concerned so much about.

One of the guys who works for me has a form 1 9mm can that has several thousand rounds through it. Looks good as new inside and the baffles as about as good as my commercial built cans. I wouldnt use one on a centerfire rifle but I wouldnt use my TiRant on a centerfire rifle either.

In case you missed it...there’s a multi-page thread discussing some of it.

I wouldn’t buy most of the eBay stuff unless it was for rimfire only. The Form 1 suppressor boards have quite a few vendors that have what you need.

I'll give that a read through. Just came back to the forum after a few years of distractions haha. I already have a mask but wouldn't be opposed to another 22 can but I've heard that aluminum baffles are hard to clean lead off of.

A dirty suppressor is a quiet suppressor... Only newbs clean their cans. Knock the crud off, put it back together, and pew pew...

Haha I don't get them spotless but I would like my baffle stack to not become frozen together. That 22 is dirty stuff

Check. Go with a monocore then for 22. Those WIX filters are great and cheap. Just get your stamp 1st like I did. I've used mine from 22 up to 300blk supersonic with good results and no issues. My AAC Pilot 2 factory 22 can is a baffle stack. Great can. Pain to clean without the factory tool...

I have a YHM Sidewinder with a Gemtech 3-lug multi adapter on it. I love it with its mono core+1 built in baffle. It works well and is lightweight.

I will always use the 3-lug if possible. I love it!

I already have a mask and omega so I'm wanting to do something 9mm next but I'm definitely interested in the form 1 stuff now especially with approvals in <30 days.

10-4. Pistol or carbine? Neilson/booster options are limited with the form 1 stuff. They do exist though.

The form 1 stuff used to be an issue for decouplers/boosters/LID's/Nielsen devices ( whatever you feel like calling them ) . Now that the 1.180×24 size has pretty much been standardized for most manufacturers of 9mm silencers its not that difficult to build one. You dont even have to learn to run a lathe and cut threads any more.

One issue with form 1 cans at the current moment.... The companies that make the components or kits are swamped right now.....at least the ones worth having are. Lots of items are out of stock or on backorder for at least a few weeks.

I'm seeing that's gonna be an issue.

All i really saw there was the k style cups, which arent as popular other styles. For what they charge for a complete kit, there are better options that are cheaper.

The K cups might not be as "popular" as simple cones or God forbid pressed washers and spacers like some of the other suppliers sell but they work better if finished machined correctly and the K Baffles they sell are very well machined and finish anodized. Ive seen them and they are comparable to what some commercial vendors sell as finished silencers minus the hole. Some of the vendors sell stuff that would almost be better left as an empty tube. Don't get me wrong. A big empty tube works relatively well with 22LR.

I think im seeing the cones being more because you can cram more of them in a tube than the k style. You can adjust your spacing with the cones, and they work better with rifle rounds. The kits i saw on stc only came with 6 cups for an 8 inch tube? Not sure how that would work with a 9mm can....... But the kcups would work for the lower pressure rounds like 22lr and probably handgun rounds. You see the k style on rimfire cans iirc......aac uses them?

Also.......there is a rumor that eforms for form4 is in the works.........that should........speed things up when buying from a dealer, how much i dunno....

That rumor has been going since it came back for F1s, ~18 months ago. Not saying it won’t happen...just don’t hold your breath.

You’re seeing cones more because they’re waaaaayyyyy easier to make. ;)

Im sure there are others but these sites tend to make very good components.

Yep these are the sites I kept coming across while reading last night. I like the skirted maverick patch catchers because it looks like the only spacer you'd need would be the blast chamber. Unfortunately they are one of the many items out of stock...
