I used to really enjoy taking a kid fishing in the river for their first time and watch them hook up with a bowfin. The look on their faces tell the whole story about going back again.

We caught them by accident some years ago. Once we figured out what they were, wed go back down East JUST to catch them

And on the Lumber they're always willing to bite. They will tear your mess up but they're a lot of fun!!

Yup! Closest and simplest place I know of. No fish to speak of, but he still loves it.

For those that like to shad fish. The fish on the Neuse are between Kinston and Goldsboro right now heading west. The bite has tapered off east of Kinston. Pink or white grubs on 1/8th oz jig heads and silver spoons have been doing well. These can be caught from the bank. They pull pretty good and do jump like a mini tarpon as they are a saltwater fish.

@tod0987 do you know any good places to bank fish between Kinston and Goldsboro?

Not off hand I usually fish Kinston east. I believe there are several and at the bridge crossings. There is a facebook group "NC-Shad" with lots of current info scanning through it should yield a few spots or call up EZ Bait and Tackle in Goldsboro. They are on 117 I believe which is next to the river.

Caught my first top water fish of the year yesterday evening on a $1.97 Walmart Popping frog. Who says you need $10 live target baits to catch fish?

A little pond action. The owner said keep everything except undersized bream (@B00ger). The kids had a great time.

Got them all cleaned and bagged up, ready for a get together.

What’s the daily limit on LMB down there? Or doesn’t it matter for private ponds?

That fish fry waiting ti happen.

I am not a fresh water fisherman but had to get out of the house. Grabbed a couple bream spinners and a hot dog. Headed to the pond at the gun club. From the dock I could see some fish that appeared to be around 20". Tossed a piece of hot dog over there and I have never seen so many 3 to 4" fish in my life. I had one of the large fish circle the bait twice and swam away. A couple people fished all around the pond and they said that they could see bass on the beds and would not bite anything.
I ended up with 2 hand size bream (catch and release) and one less hot dog.

Pulled the Coronavirus kayak out of storage because I don't want to fight people at the boat ramp..... It was good to get on the water....View attachment 205474
Where are you launching from? The ramps I have saw at Jordan have cones in front blocking the entrances. I’m going to check one or two tonight on the way home and hope to hit the water tomorrow. My kayak doesn’t fit in the canoe launch I used in the past.

You need to throw them some shiners, they look skinny.

Some fatheads have been on my list for a while now, but man, you should see the amount of fry and juvenile panfish in the ditch, never mind the absurd frog population.

ramp to Fontana is gated and locked. Lake is also still down past the ramp so anything to big to hand launch is s o l.
