if that town is like the small town i'm currently at out here, it would be very shocking to have something like that happen. hell, people run in the store and leave their cars running here.

Broken Arrow OK Population: 103,500 (2013). Seems like a large suburb of Tulsa. Don't think that they'd make the list on Hee-Haw.

Well, he defended what was his no complaints or concerns there. If this happened more often then thugs would likely think twice before breaking into folks homes.

If he had used an AR like the one I shot this weekend, when they asked him what happened, his answer would have been; "Huh?! Sorry I didn't hear you, what was the question?!"

No chit!!!!?!

I disagree with Op's headline. They are most certainly NOT ok.

0% service connection

You ought to read the hearing loss service connection rejection statement I was sent. It's laughable

dont you know the hajis always give you time to put your hp in?

I somehow pictured a much younger shooter. In my mind when I read "son" I thought of all those other stories of 10-16 year olds holding it down.

When I saw it was a 19 year old I thought "oh, that's a grown man...infantry is usually that age..."

Great to see the "right" message get across here.....don't break in peoples homes ass holes.

Man more crazy headlines from Tulsa. You would think they're trying to be another Charlotte or something [emoji16]

Read this earlier this morning. What a great way to get the day started!!

Worked in Broken Arrow for awhile in my younger life. Lived in Tulsa.
I despise cities.

But Tulsa was the nicest (cleanest/nicest laid out) city I have ever lived in.

People in the Texas/Oklahoma/Louisiana area of the world don't take a lot of crap like the eastcoasters do. :p

Tulsa has become full of meth and gang members as of late...

The only thing that bugs me about the article, and of course it's the news so you have to consider that aspect, is this paragraph:

"The unnamed shooter has not been charged, and Mahoney said he appeared to be acting in self-defense -- but investigators said more charges could be coming. The homeowner's son voluntarily gave a statement to sheriff's investigators."

Hopefully they are referring to bringing more charges against the female driver of the getaway car.

They should give the unnamed shooter a marksmanship award. Heck, he could teach at the police academy there I bet.

The issue he could have is one he made a statement to the police, big no no, get a lawyer and close your mouth even if you are in the right. Second he supposedly talked to the robbers prior to shooting them. That may negate stand your ground. But three against one with knife and brass knuckles should invoke fear of his life or serious bodily harm and give him the right to use deadly force. Need to see details. If he shot any of them in the back it could get interesting.

We can of course what if if all day that It may be that yahoo is just trying to make a ruckus about a clear self defense situation, or it was drug related or whatever but I think the clear thing that I saw was that the police are taking it to the DA and letting them decide as THEY should do, without prejudicing the shooter by making statements to the media.

And, as always, do not speak to the police dept until your lawyer is present. Its in your best interest to gather your mind and thoughts with guidance from council.

A question for the LEO folks: I have heard and please correct me if I am wrong but most Leo officer involved shooting the officer usually doesn't speak to the SBI until 24 hours later. Is that true??

I would have talked to the robbers too. I would have been yelling GTFO of my house right before I pulled the trigger.

They released the 911 call today. Based on what I heard, it seems the young man handled himself well while talking to the dispatcher. He first volunteered to disarm himself while in the bedroom waiting. Then he asked the dispatcher to let him know when a deputy was in the house and then he would disarm. The dispatcher then told him to disarm even though she could not confirm that the deputy was on scene and in the home. I'm not certain, but I think the young man stayed armed the entire time until near the end when she verified a deputy was in the home. If that's what he did, then in my opinion, he made the correct decision to disobey what the dispatcher was telling him to do. He just knowingly shot two intruders and allegedly unknowingly shot a third. If I was holed up in a bedroom and there were two intruders in my house that I had just shot, and a third one in an unknown location, you can bet your sweet petunias that I'd be armed the entire time. I'm not familiar with their procedures and policies in OK concerning matters such as these, but if it's standard procedure to tell a homeowner to disarm when there are intruders in the home, then that is a bad procedure in my opinion.

Get off of the phone, tell the dispatcher what help you need and hang up. Just 30-60 seconds ago you were in a firefigh. You haven't had time to gain your composure or your senses. The dispatcher is pulling information that you may not be thinking about and you will hear your statements again, possibly in court.

Yep. That's even better. Get off the phone but tell the dispatcher to have law enforcement call you directly when they have secured the scene before you hang up. Then stay armed the entire time. Why risk your own life just to make the responders feel safer?

I like how she says that she has done other burglaries in the past but no one was home and then the reporter said that the defendant was hoping that the judge would go easier because she does not have any prior convictions. Didn't she just admit to other crimes?

And hopefully, other teens will see what happened to this crew of felons and not go down their road. Consequences need to be painful some some slow learners out there.
