I think I’m ready to finally take the plunge into the NFA world and would like to get a suppressor in the near future. Or at least get the paperwork started and begin the long wait.

I will be going the trust route and my question is. Do suppressors for onto a 4473? Like once the stamp comes back approved do you do a transfer with your dealer like you would for any other firearm? Or is it some different paperwork for suppressors?

Same 4473 for the final transfer. Just no NICS check, or even a requirement to show concealed permit in its place...at least at the federal level. State laws may differ, but I’m pretty sure VA is similar to NC in this regard.

If you don’t have a dealer in VA, I’d highly recommend Hansohn Brothers. You also get an AR15.com discount with him if you’re a member.

VA operates like NC, in the fact he can actually do the final transfer via mail if you’re too far away. It’s a standard non-over-the-counter process since no background check is required. You’ll handle the 4473 without having to go to his shop, and he’ll mail the can to you.

Oh yeah...just be sure you’ll be in VA for awhile. Form 4 transfers are anywhere from 3-12 months right now. It’s as inconsistent as it’s ever been.

You just need to be a resident of the state (PCS orders count) in order to handle the 4473.

yup. You'll complete a 4473

Ah, I was hoping it was a different form that didn’t have anything to do with the state. My unique situation is. I’m active duty and live in VA, I have a TX drivers license but I’m stationed in MD. Most places would allow you to show a copy of your lease to prove residency, but it seems VA requires ID. I’m trying to get in contact with the state police to confirm this.

I’ll be here for another 2yrs almost. The residency thing is my issue.

Call Hansohn and discuss it as well. I’m sure he’ll be able to give you the info.

After all, it doesn’t matter what the state police say if the dealer insists on extra CYA steps in the process.

thanks. I’ll check those guys out, they’re only about 50mi down the road from my house.

It won’t get you anything, but tell him I said Hey. :D

I bought my Turbo K from him and talk to him on AR15 quite often. Not sure if he offers a military discount, but he does have the AR15.com discount I mentioned. And although you can do your own prints and photos, he also offers the service if you’re local.

Do they have a actual storefront that you can go to? I don’t see any business hrs listed on their site.

I’m fairly certain they do, but moved to appointment only during this lockdown mess. Not 100% sure on that, but I thought I saw him post that somewhere.

Just talked to them and as long as I bring in a copy my lease proving residency then I’ll be good to go. Thanks again.

I never carry mine. In 25 years Ive never been asked and if I ever am they can look at a copy on my google drive account on my phone. Not my problem.

Mine have never been shown other than for “educational” purposes...not to LEO/RSO/etc.
