This was a Stainless Steel Chinese "muzzle brake" That was 1" OD. I turned it down to .870" to fit inside a 1" OD tube to go on a integral Mark 2 Ruger .

I bet you could cut those “baffles” in half (or more) and lose some weight.

Probably could but it doesn't weigh much and it's lighter than the original bull barrel. The tube is going all the way back to the receiver with minimal barrel length. I dont like .22 pistols too light. The y have the same "brake" in aluminum.

Did you get the Mark 2 barrel from the pay it forward box? I had one like that and think I put it in there a long time back...
If so, glad to see it got put to use!

No. That is the original barrel for that Mark 2 that has never been off the gun. I machined the barrel back and threaded it 20+ years ago. It used to have an old school tube and packing sort of silencer that worked really well but was only good for around 100 rounds or less before needing a repack job.

Cobray made a similar barrel back in the 70's / 80's that they sold off the old stock well into the 2000's that was that was threaded 7/16-14 I believe. The one on that gun is threaded 1/2-20 I made an end cap for the tube , screwed it on to the barrel and then screwed and loctited on a 1/2-20 to 1/2-28 adapter the thread the core onto. Having pulled a couple of barrels off Mark II's before...yeah, no. Thats a crappy job even when you have a full length barrel to hold onto.

How did you get that delivered without BATFeces paying you a house call? From what I gathered, that is a 'supressor' as it sits so you can't claim it's the old solvent trap, and they aren't buying the muzzle brake line either.
Those things are all over Wish.com

That's a muzzle brake. I made it into a suppressor core. I know what you are saying but seriously on that core it is in no way usable as a suppressor core without considerable machine work. It has no way of attaching a tube no did it come with one. It's just a muzzle brake. have a form 1 on hand for that. Not a problem.

Get it out of your head that the ATF will visit you for ordering a solvent trap from China. Doesn't happen. Only cases I have ever heard about are where they are serving a warrant for something else and find some illegal silencers . If something does get stopped in customs they just send you a letter stating you can appeal the seizure and in any case most of what gets sold as solvent traps are not usable as silencers without more machine work so they are not silencers.

Unfortunately ARFCOM has verified and documented cases that they indeed have visited folks ordering solvent traps thru Wish - doesn't matter if you have a form 1 in hand or not and it's not BATF it's Customs doing the investigations

A solvent trap coming from China and one coming from Georgia. Same thing. Not illegal That muzzle brake came from Georgia BTW. Yeah, I did receive a love letter from customs for a different one that I ordered. I can appeal it if I want. Already got my money back so they can keep it. It was the non drilled cup sort . I have two others that were built from Chinese solvent traps. All on form 1s.

Yes. There are some Chinese ones that are silencers as is. I wouldn't buy those. It would be nice if theyre were to sell one that was a 1" OD Omega baffle style. I'd form 1 a few of those for .22's. Ive seen them for much larger tubes. The Chinese have a centrally controlled push economy for a lot of stuff they export. Makes no difference what the consumer wants. They just make a lot and do it cheap to keep people employed at all costs.

Remember 95% of what comes through the mail from overseas flies through customs. Wish is on the hit list. AliExpress not so much.

I can see these becoming the new BATFE treasure hunt after they finish getting up all the "airsoft" glock backplates with the auto sears.

You can form 1 a silencer. No form 1ing a machine gun.
True, but you can't manufacture till after the form 1 comes back, having the single most complex and hardest to manufacture part of the device on hand would prob meet that legal gray area of "intent to manufacture" that's cost people a lot of money to try and stay out of the pokey for. It's like having a pistol length upper for an AR and no pistol registered lowers, yeah, it prob wont be a problem for you, till it is, then it's a big problem.

No ones telling you that you can't do it, just urging caution, esp since the most common settlement with the BATFE in court to keep from going to the pokey is a fine, surrender of all confiscated property and the forfeiture of your rights to own firearms.

They've already came after US manufacturers of these things, last time I checked the BATFE suit against Sig was still locked up in appeals, did a final ruling ever get reached in that case?

SIG was trying to sell a silencer core attached to a rifle that you could purchase a sleeve for and trn into a silencer. That thing on that Ruger could not accept and hold a sleeve without machine work. It was a muzzle brake. Lots of muzzle brakes out there that can be machined into silencer cores but that is on the builder to do after he gets a from 1.

You can’t manufacture anything with a Form 1. :p
This is true.
In the last few years the whole solvent trap/storage cup/muzzle brake yada yada world has exploded. You can get some very interesting metal chunks that can be transformed by the "maker' into a silencer core given a moderate amount of machine work. I won't even say easily because some of those metal chunks take quite a bit of work.
