So I came across some Croatian ak mags today at smoky mountain knife works. They seem to be very well made and at $11 a piece I said why not I have seen that they have to be modified to work but they seem very well made. So my question is what are u guys thoughts and opinions of this magazine?

General consensus is that they work, sometimes. Pretty much what you've said/already read. I have six, but have only unwrapped and used two of them. Really well made when you hold one in your hands. They've fit and fed just fine in the AKs I've tried them in. If they don't work, I understand it only takes a few minutes with a file to get them to work.

Probably worth snagging a couple to experiment with and report back here.

Yea I only bought one but with what I’m reading online pretty sure I’m gonna get up early and be waiting when they open up in the morning to snag a dozen. Took a hour and a half to get back from there to the cabin normally a 20 minute drive. Place is jamming.

For $11 I don't blame you. Let us know how they work out in your guns. I wouldn't trust my life to them, but have had no issues otherwise. The bluing is quite nice. Also, if you ever want to get crazy with a Dremel and cut some witness holes or windows into a mag, I'd feel far less bad about hacking into one of these than a legit surplus mag.

What color baggie are they in?
There were clear bags and blue. The clear bag mags are supposed to be better
I bought a case of them. Run flawless in my home builds. I did not need to thin the locking tabs

If they are $11.00 for a surplus AK47 mag I would buy one just to try it.

Steel mags, but commercial spec. Not true milsurp mags, but better metal, fit, and finish than the older (grayish) Korean commercial mags (the new black Korean steel mags are supposed to be better, but I've not felt the need to buy either generation).

Yes I am quoting myself here, because I just saw a post over on the Files that these new production South Korean mags are on sale for $6.50 apiece. Just bought 10.

Pretty sure Mrgunsngear reviewed these same mags on his YouTube B channel and they've worked well so far.

So, 17 years after I bought my first gun chambered in 7.62x39, I'm buying my first Korean AK mags. On Memorial Day no less. I feel sick.

Dumb question, I haven't checked recently. Has the surplus European steel mag well run dry? I thought like two years ago, you could still get some for like $9.

It's a slow drip. They're still available at some places, but quantity and variety is usually low while prices are up. Even the super rusty grade 3/junked mags are 10 bucks a pop, and they're not even guaranteed to function.

I’ve owned a few Croatian mags that needed the rear lug filed a little bit to lock in but they run fine after you get them to fit. Every ak mag catch fits just a little different in my experience, so you may not need to file at all to fit your rifle.

Glad i bought a case of 42 maple leaf Croatian mags from PSA years ago. I think after selling a few I paid for the case, made some folding money and had a 3rd leftover but they worked out to be around $6 each when i got them. They sold well for $10
