One retractable dog leash, medium or large.

One anchor.

My local boat shop is run by a family friend. I get discounts and great tips.

Push button to drop anchor. Lock leash at depth. Pull up cord and let leash retract when done. When it’s in the water I run the leash through the rear carry handle and down into the water.

Used it today and it’s not bad. Doesn’t work in deep water. And I think it will work even better on the creeks. I’ll get a better anchor soon and going to look at other leashes. This one is only 16’.

I want to mock you with a dog joke... but that's just too dang good an idea!

I'm already thinking about alternate anchors, weight/grip combos...

Just found a 26’ version for large dogs. I’ll be getting one soon. My daughter can use this one.

You can also try a retractable clothesline. My dog leash eventually broke. I've seen the clothesline thing done but haven't done it myself.

You can use heavy chain inside a bicycle inner tube as a drag chain, helps slow you down in current.

Have you considered installing an anchor trolley to help position yourself. It allows you to move where the anchor comes off the boat to account for current or whatever situation arises.

drag chains work perfect for anchor in creeks and rivers. They keep the yak straight allowing you to fish the banks... you can quickly add more chain with carabiners depending on how swift the water is. They still get hung...but much less.

I don’t anchor much so this was too easy not to try. May or may not do that later. And I float some creeks where this will be a better option. Gonna try the chain and inter tube out there.

I made one but I never use it for some reason. Maybe it's just the water I fish.
I fish a lot of shallow water and it works well in that aspect. Last kayak I had had a 10ft rod on the back and I could anchor in about 8’ of water. I loved it

Looks like an old sailboat winch could be the way to go, built like a tank/intended to get wet/salted
I may even try that myself...thanks for provoking thought

Used it on the river Sat. Worked well. Didn't use it as a drag. But if I needed to stop to wait on anyone or needed to secure the kayak to help out it worked great. And if I was just outside the main current it held me without moving on a couple occasions. I used the 5lb weight but will be getting chains and trying them as some point.
