Self-Defense Question

Remember this....

Is a jury of "your peers" REALLY your peers..??

I have sat in a jury pool a few times. I will say that from what i saw "Peers" is HIGHLY subjective. You are going to get a cross section of people who have not been in trouble with the law and are not complete idiots. I think they weeded out the flakes pretty fast. Normal folks is the majority, but what i tell people in my Concealed Carry class is, they are not likely to be hard core gun people. Think your average nurse, school teacher, factory worker, it is a cross section. Would a normal person believe you were behaving like they would in that situation? I will say that normal people do not carry "assault rifles" (i know, i know) in their car. If you happen to "show up" at a riot, and just happen to have an AR15 on the seat beside you, and you kill a bunch of people.... you are probably going to jail. You are going to have to come up with a real good reason why you had that gun and were in that area... That is going to be my un-lawyerly educated guess - take that advice for how much you paid for it.

I'm not picking on you specifically @Hashknife but this is a small peeve of mine and since this is a board often concerned with legal stuff:

"Jury of your Peers" is British Law, a term coined back in the day to ensure Nobles were not judged by Commoners. The Original Daddys were specifically not into such things, so... In the USA you are entitled to "A Fair and Impartial Jury". No "Peers" talk anywhere in US Law.

Thanks for the clarification of terms. My experience is based on seeing jury selection come from a pool of various folks who are not in any way self-defense friendly towards those who are.

I just got a jury summons in the mail the other day for the end of June. I don't know if they are even having trials? We will see what happens?

Don't miss National Steal a Flat Screen & Destroy Others Property Day. There will also be a simultaneous march to promote dragging innocent folks from there vehicles & bashing them with bricks & FB_IMG_1591032970166.jpg 2x4's.
These domestic terrorists need to try this with some good old rednecks that know how to handle thugs!

As soon as the windows break, game on.

At that point entry is being gained. Deal with it the same as if you were at home.

IMHO.
This is my stance and what I’ve explained to the wife. You break my window, hammer down (both of them) and I’m not stopping until there is no longer a threat.

Don't worry, "They" got everything under control.... Except Bubba.....

NOBODY on this thread has made any excuses... All seem to share a common concern for enhanced saftey during these violent times...

You seem to be the biggest excuse maker on here. Your rebuttals always seem to have an excuse included with them.

Stay home, stay safe, and practice the Wizard. You will be fine. The rest of us are doing what we need to do.

Meet ya in the courtroom.....

You are making blanket assumptions about folks based on your experience(s), therefore your definitions are limited by your experience(s). Some here are credentialed to carry weapons at all times... ( not concealed ) and carry the paperwork to show it.

All of us are credentialed to carry firearms, I read that in the 2A.

Who is being a badass?

While I have concern, Im not going to let these people stop me from leaving my home if I want or need to.
And what of the person who isnt GOING to the hot spots but traveling through, like on I40. So no one has compassion for the truck driver that is hauling his load and happens to come across a closed highway? Or the random motorist?

Bogus.

Good God, suddenly everybody is a Billy Badass, "I got this rifle and a gazillion magazines and enough food and water to stay in my truck for 2 months"

Has it occurred to anyone to AVOID the areas where you THINK there may be trouble?? What's the saying "If I THINK there's going to be trouble where I'm going, how about I just don't go there"?? Or not, your choice.....

I don’t think it’s about being a bad ass, it’s about being able to get home in one piece Safely & Not becoming the next Reginald Denny, not being the next person that the media crucifies for whatever “isim” their on about that day. The picture that I posted of the riot/protest Happened in Greensboro. I literally drove past that spot 15 to 20 minutes before they made it up on the interstate and shut it down. I didn’t find out about it until I got home and saw the news. So that unexpected running is what honestly I’m most worried about. Waze doesn’t give you an alert that says he find an alternate route there’s a riot ahead. The radio station never mentioned anything about it.

commercial drivers are targets during riots. Peaceful protests can turn into a Riot pretty quickly as we’ve seen over the past few days. Carrying extra protection at least in my case it’s just about covering my own ass. I’m an overweight 46-year-old with a bad back and bad knees, I am as far from being a bad ass as anyone can be.

I’m with @Bailey Boat ... do what you can to avoid. I have even thought of buying a friend’s old early 80’s 3/4 ton truck that looks pretty rough and rusty. Put a few dollars in it to make sure it’s 100% mechanically good and good muffler so it wouldn’t stand out as a loud sparkly target. I’d also make sure I had some good Load E tires to give me that little extra advantage on broken glass and other debris in the street. If you can avoid do so by all means ... but sometimes you just can’t so do your best to not stand out.

Hmmm ... why there ... in the middle of small townships like your Wesley Chapel, Indian Trails, etc? It’s a pretty decent hike SE of Charlotte. Aside from the regular fast food places and small strip mall what’s there ... the high school? This seems a little weird ... get the family secured and hunker down ... I truly hope nothing comes of it.

Anyone traveling thru Durham in the next few hours stay away from the 147 ... the protesters just shut it down. Both DPD and DCS are “monitoring” but are not acting on orders of those in charge to let the protesters vent.

I try to used crowd-sourced traffic apps (like Waze) to recognize I'm coming up on trouble in time to change my route. As was posted, I'd use spray first to try to avoid lethal defense. Once you go lethal in a crowd like that, you'd better have enough ammo for everyone because once you run out they will have no mercy on you or your passengers.

I think some of it comes down to committing to a course of action and then living with the decision. That tanker truck was swarmed because he stopped to avoid hitting someone in the road. I don't think I could make a decision to ram a crowd, but once you make that decision you have to commit to it.

Turning around and driving, even if you can only go 50 yards before you can't continue...is a 50 yard head start if you need to hoof it.

I'm sure I could have rammed right on through. And being the ornery old man I am I'd of hit the next exit & got back on going the opposite direction and rammed through the other side of the crowd of fools.
That's my Pumpkin, making a comeback! LOL. Miss you!

Rioters Attack Vehicles After Blocking Highway Traffic: Would Lethal Self-Defense Be Justified?

If you're being attacked , it's time to utilize full time 4WD. If being attacked by a violent mob its itime to scoot.

If the mob is staring at the bottom of your transfer case as you get to safety, well, that's the downside of being a rioting pedestrian in a roadway.

I think most men, especially those who are 2A minded, would have learned by now that when it comes to self defense, and especially the protection of ones loved ones, we are not looking for a "fair fight". We aren't even looking for a "kinda fair fight". In self defense you are already behind the 8ball, and the initiative is being fought for (if not lost already). That isn't the time to "wish you had brought X" to a fight you yourself didn't start.

After reading through the thread I have yet to see anyone who is even remotely "looking for a fight". What we DO have is a bunch of family men, working men, and citizens who merely want to go about their business peacefully. It has been said, multiple times here, that people are doing their utmost to avoid hotspots. Going out of their way when possible to not get anywhere near areas that may have rioters. But sadly, some of the men here have jobs, and those jobs >may< take them to places they otherwise would choose not to go. To top that off, criminal rioters generally don't advertise where they are going to start their mess. So aside from staying at home and hiding, all we can do is avoid places where we can, and prepare for the worst. If you preparing for the worst comes across as "Going too heavy" for some...then good...it means you have accepted the fact that when/if something comes about you have thought ahead to maximize your already crappy situation.
