Protesting...nah, criminal activity is getting out of hand

Well...I am kinda starting to miss the "Tiger King/TP Shortage/Eat All the Snacks" stage of this year.

What >has< stuck out to me blaringly is that just a short time ago, people gathered at the state house to protest for their right to open their businesses up, re-open churches, and end the lock down. Not one shot was fired. Not one business burned. Not one car overturned. They were called domestic terrorists by the media, lambasted on all social media as uncaring morons that were going to kill us all by spreading the corona, and were shunned by the entire left.

Yet...now gathering in massive crowds, burning businesses, marching in the streets, blocking traffic, beating innocent people, throwing rocks through windows, and destroying towns is "just a valiant outpouring from an oppressed people that should be supported and praised for their bravery."
The fires are there to protect the peaceful protesters' and police's health! Everyone knows viruses die at 451^o Fahrenheit.

Duh! Just follow the science.

Just saw a threat on Facebook against the Angel Oak Tree outside Charleston SC. Some people here might think I'm one of those "social justice warrior" posters... but not this time.
what you heard was the ass wipe Chris Wallace on Fox News.

lol. I do t have FB either.
Can someone please explain to me WTF an org called “thug life” is protesting? What exactly are the “demands” of thug life?
That they be allowed to thug in peace without interference from law enforcement. In the vernacular, they want us to be their bitch.

Rioters in downtown Cleveland "systematically smashed out windows and looted stores, restaurants, and bars" on Saturday, WJW-TV reported.

But family members who own and run Corbo's Bakery weren't about to let rioters have free rein upon the business they worked hard to build over the years.

What are the details?
The station said when rioters tried forcing their way into the bakery using bats and other weapons, owner Joe Corbo and his two sons armed themselves with guns, met the rioters at the door, and said — in effect — just try us.

A man who was apprehended by police in Los Angeles on Sunday for looting a business revealed his motive and the motive of other looters — and it has nothing to do with the tragic death of George Floyd.

Dramatic footage showed Los Angeles police chase the looter, who was fleeing on foot after just escaping a looted New Balance store. The looter then surrenders to police and he is taken into custody.
As the unidentified man is sitting on the sidewalk in handcuffs, presumably waiting for his transportation to jail, KTTV-TV reporter Bill Melugin interviewed the looter.
The reporter asked, "Alright man, we saw you at the New Balance store. Why are you out here?"
"Uh, man, period, point blank. Just like all my real ones tryna do, just tryna get some monies," the looter replied. "There ain't no explanation. That's it."
When asked if his actions were related to the George Floyd protests, the looter was very candid.
"I mean, a little bit to do with that, too, you feel me? But not really. I am out here for the dough," the arrested man told the reporter.

civil disobedience

Call me Old-Fashioned ( or pour me one...) , but Civil Disobedience seems to me to be stuff that fails to meet the definition of any "Chargeable Offense". Even the lowest misdemeanor would not qualify, etc. so it's chalked up as Civil Disobedience and the cops would just sit there, just chew their dentures and wait out people needing to go pee or eat instead of having their sit-in and everyone goes home, Cops get extra OT and the protestors later go to Waffle House to recount the day and chest thump.

Civil Disobedience does not mean damage to public or private property where damages are incurred that otherwise might easily proved (aka civil or criminal liability) in a court of law. I know I'm preaching to the choir, maybe I'm just dusting off my aged brain cells. ( Yay Me!)

TLDR: Civil Disobedience not applicable in this instance. Go Fish.

When can we

yeah. CD when effective generates publicity and sympathetic PR. Burning stuff down is generally not considered good PR. When can we quit pretending this is anything but a violent coup that is exploiting the on-site availability of lots of excitable useful idiots ?

I think it's a church group. True Healing Under God or something like that.
Nope. Book club. It’s everybody that read The Hate U Give...or maybe watched the movie. I sat through it when my wife wanted to watch it. Guess I need to sign up.

Walking through the airport last night heard some new reporter say “and you’ve got to remember that the 6th leading cause of death for young black men is police brutality” and I knew with great certainty that the facts no longer matter.
Who says it’s not true? All depends on what 1-5 are.

If you start with:
1. Any type of illness/health issue
2. Any type of accident

...you might get to police brutality at #6. ;)

Yes, but my point was that even if true and even with the worst of the police, the situation is 99% controllable by the victim. It really isn’t that hard to not he interesting to law enforcement, heck I know people that sell drugs pretty openly every day and it’s impossible to get the police interested. Just more normalization of folks not accepting responsibility for their actions.

Curfew in Greensboro and. High point tonight starting @ 8. Rumor is that thugs are gonna hit neighborhoods tonite.

A big crowd seems to be gathering in downtown Durham at this time. I truly hope the honest protesters and police will work together to arrest any vandals, but I know that's a lot of wishful thinking. I know several folks with businesses or homes downtown and pray for their safety.

As of right now...Fayetteville is doing it right.

There's a strong bond in the community and before the initial problems the community really worked with the department. I think the people who came in from out of town got it started and it took a few days to get some sensibility back.

Oh really. Is that why they burned the Market House?

Having lost my mind this morning, I listened to a bit of NPR. One of the guests explained that this isn’t violence but simply civil disobedience. Interesting that she uses her own dictionary.

By the way, Greensboro will be locked down tonight at 8.

THat makes a lot of sense, lots of 'civil' activities when they're smashing windows and such...

Look, the Greensboro 4 practiced CD. They sat, peacefully. MLK practiced CD, he simply marched.
Gandhi practiced CD by walking to the coast to get his own salt.

These jerks are just being domestic terrorists.

Ft. Bragg is sending the real boys. Daughters boyfriend was told this morning to pack for the capital. He is a Ranger officer. Help is different this time. Trump said in his speech today he is not letting rioters destroy American cities.

I really think that was people not from here but have no proof. This is the third day of this crap here. This could have went extremely sideways today and the buzz was that it would. Both sides ended up taking a knee and some even exchanged hugs and handshakes.

So yea, I would say it has so far gone extremely well. Sorry I wasn't able to provide worse news for ya.

Yeah every news station reports the mayor said it was outsiders. Has to be true a local in Fayetteville would never even rub a kitten briskly.

Reactions: Me.
Saw RPD Chief of police on news earlier. Yea, she needs to go and along with that damn Mayor

Why you got so much hate in your heart man? Ya know, I never back down from a fight but it's so much easier and better to live without hate and anger.

I don't doubt some locals joined in, Lord knows we have our share of crap heads but the area they were in tonight is rough, it could have been extremely bad. I would hope that not having loss of life, injury and further damage would be considered a good thing by anyone.

I've been down the road of having bullets fired at me extremely close, it's not a good road to travel.

You say 'both sides,' which implies two. I disagree with you there, I think there are THREE pieces to this
police
protestors
terrorists/criminals

I have zero problem with protestors, and there is a ton of peaceful protesting going on (like in Winston, where no rioting as of yestrerday afternoon, Ive not checked this morning, sorry). But the other crap...yeah, that's a different group.

There may even be another side or two stoking the fires. Or do we just put politicians or government agencies in with terrorists and criminals?

Some definitely are terrorists and criminals
