WOW, so this happened. Cops caught on tape talking about a coming civil war. I mean this is not news i guess but it is on Fox News. This comes along with with New York crazies wanting to defund the police along with massive spikes in young people with covid (shocker.) I think we may be regressing back to a month or so ago as far as quarantine. It is getting crazier and crazier.

I experienced a similar situation back in the 80's where a Trooper just tossed his mic onto the seat and the way it landed keyed the mic. For about 30 minutes he trashed every officer in the Troop, including me. Of course he had no idea the mic was keyed and didn't give a second thought about not hearing ANY radio traffic for almost 1/2 hour.

Needless to say his 15 year career was realigned and his time was freed up for other pursuits....

What did he have to say about you?

Ouch...

Sort of reminds me of a deputy in Florida with whom I used to ride occasionally when I was in school. Several deputies were my neighbors and would take me riding with them unless it was full moon, Friday night, or pay day. I was in the car with this deputy one day when we crossed a bridge over a small creek and saw some of the brothers fishing from it. He told me that if he had a hand grenade he would solve some crime. He went on to say that he would not have a job if it were not for teenagers and members of a certain minority. He expressed his disgust and great dislike for many members of that minority and how they behaved. This deputy was Black. He was not very fond of white trash either.

At that time I was his Sargent and had conducted a "come to Jesus" meeting with him less than 2 weeks prior to the microphone incident. The meeting was about his appearance and a few dubious stops he had made. He was a fairly new transfer to my troop so I didn't really have any history with him so the termination was easy peasy.....

I am not siding with the officers charged, but I had a little bit of an issue with this...

North Carolina state law normally prevents government agencies from releasing information on personnel, and an attorney representing the officers filed an injunction to block the release of those records.

A judge denied that motion after the City Council voted unanimously to hand out documents detailing the conversations. Williams said he was still working with a judge to determine whether the footage itself can be released.

That they revealed the officers identities puts a target on their backs. Do they deserve it? I don't know.

Just sayin'

Information like this should be public, it should go into a data base, and checked when getting hired for any LEO position. Kind of like a gun background check, but for LEO positions.

"I cannot release details of the personnel/HR investigation. I can confirm that the officers involved in this recording have been disciplined appropriately, and I can confirm that Officers Jones and Smith were terminated. I cannot confirm that the two terminated officers were the same two officers in this recording."
I think that would be the most appropriate response.

At least one of them apparently could use some fallout, though he doesn't deserve to have it coming from the state straying from policy and putting him up like that. The people around him probably already know, and some have probably already distanced from him due to past issues. That's how free association works when free expression happens.

Some people can deal with the south end of a north bound society daily and keep their heads about them. Some cannot. The one's that cannot need to find other employment. Because having the authority, ability, and means to end another citizens life without the understanding to treat everyone as individuals as much as possible is a recipe for disaster.

I don't know that you can stop all the profiling, it's human nature. You just have to temper it with how each individual reacts in a give situation. And that is also a two way street. If an officer approaches a situation with a set idea, and the person just steps right into that idea, well things might go south. Some people use their history to become belligerent jerks, and if two of them collide you best get out of the way.

Get rid of qualified immunity too, make them carry their own liability insurance. Lot's of people that deal with life and death carry personal liability insurance. I'd bet any insurance company that would underwrite that would definitely make sure that applicant isn't a psycho idiot.

As far as personal info... Publish ALL OF IT. Except of course financial and SS#'s. Might make officer jackwagon think twice before acting like a complete a$$hole when dealing with a citizen. They should also have to live where they work. All the cops in the town I grew up in were local, We all knew where they lived and knew many of their kids and relatives. I don't know if that was what made them treat people like human beings instead of potential targets, but it just might help. But then again, when I was a kid, they didn't go around dressed like Robocop and start interactions negatively. They bring a lot of it on themselves.

I keep hearing how the VAST majority are good people. If they're so damned decent why aren't they making sure the effheads are done away with? To me it makes this VAST majority of "good people" complicit.

I don't trust a cop until I get to know them a little. I used to sell tons of squad cars which led to some buying personal cars from me. Some of them were just straight up bullies when they would tell stories that they thought were falling on friendly ears. Creepy individuals with personalized plates like "IGLOKM".

All officers need to remember that they could be having everything recorded or videotaped at any time these days by their employer or the general public .
I even wonder how much Google and Apple is saving from all other conversions from everyone in the USA.
