So yesterday I went to a gun store about 30 miles from me to get some night sites for a handgun that I traded for (Glock 17). An hour before I called the store to verify they had the item and they confirmed That, yes they did and the guy told me to ask for a certain rep. He said that guy could install them as well for no additional charge. I loaded up and headed to the shop. I arrived and sanitized and all that stuff . Upon entering I was asked by the owner “what can we help you with today” I informed him I had called about getting some sights and some am no. He told me that the 9mm and 5.56 ammo was only being sold with a gun purchase. He then told me he could not sell me any sights because he was too busy selling guns. I have bought a lot and often from this store. I was a bit taken aback by this reply. I decided to politely ask if I could just purchase the sights I would install them myself as I have access to the few tools and knowledge From a friend needed to install them correctly and safely. He declined to sell them to me and said he could not justify taking a person off the counter for the sale. So I was going to spend 75 or so dollars for the sights which would have taken what 2 minutes tops with the check out And all? I understand him being too busy to install them and the ammo I get too but if I want to purchase the sights why not? I kept my cool but the more I reflect on this I am kind of bothered by it and I am contemplating not returning to the store to patronize it again. What do you all say?

I would tell the owner how I felt about it.Whether or not you buy from him again is up to you.For me it would have a lot to do with how he responds.
The person answering the phone should have told you they were only selling guns and saved you the trip.

A nice online review and/or comment on his facebook page should get his attention.

Nope, I hold a grudge.

Give Fuquay G&G a call.

The sales rep had time to take a phone call and have a conversation but the owner couldn’t take 2 minutes to ring a sale. It is not that he has to wait for .gov to approve a transfer!

That store owner is dumb as hell.

Typically margin on a firearm is 5-10%. On any accessory its minimum 30% margin. IF a person would run the store based on ROI a gun store would quit selling guns. Think of the largest businesses in the outdoor market. They are not gun manufacturers, its the Midway's, Brownells and such.

Just wondering, you have spent time traveling to his place of business, you have purchased items from him in the past, and then he treats you like a street person looking to use his bathroom. My question is are there not other places just as near that could use your business ? You must have gotten good service in the past or you would have listed the business.

As I’ve pointed out before, I believe most LGS owners are gun people who understand nothing about customer service, marketing and biness.

I'd blow that place up on every review site I could find and never go there again. I get not installing them, but refusing to even sell them to you is just a jackass move.
Especially after OP called ahead, then drove an hour round trip, just to get treated like garbage...

Yep. That's just plain douchey.

Yep. Owner should have backed up what an employee said (as long as there was no safety/legal element in play): he could let his staff know how he wanted to present differently afterwards. But yeah, PoS award here.

Yeah, they would be dead to me! I used to keep a scrap trailer for an automotive shop. I would hook up the trailer and haul it off maybe once a quarter. No real labor on my part, just hook and haul. It was basically a bonus to me that I would just spend on guns and whatnot. I hauled one day midweek and had cleaned up a metal pile at another place and my clothing was kinda dirty. There was new gunshop that I passed on my way back home. I walked in the door with over 1k in my pocket fully intent on walking back out with empty pockets. There was a guy sitting at the counter looking at the computer that never acknowleged me when I walked in, (no other customers in the shop). Whatever maybe he just giving me room to look, so I kinda roamed around figuring on what I had to have. I made my way over to one of the handgun cabinets directly in front of him, still never speaks and I see the he is playing solitare. So I walk over and look at long guns. At this point another guys walks out of the back and says to first guy whats that guys deal and nods toward me. First guys says "just another broke ass lookey loo wasting our time". Well FG&G sure didn't mind taking this broke ass lookey loo's money!! Never went back in that shop, if anyone asked me I told them the same story. They gone now.

Truth!!!

I pretty much never shop retail, but I was browsing a local shop the other day and 3 different employees asked me if I needed help with finding anything during my time in the store. That store wanted to move product and acted as such...

That LGS operates at a profit. It shows... they have expanded 3 times in the last few years. Other LGS appear to be running a museum!

Crazy...

Going by the minimum 30% profit margin mentioned earlier, he could have made $22-$23 in 5 minutes max...in terms of hourly rate, that works out to $250+ / hour.

Dude’s an idiot and rude to boot.

Name names...may save others here a headache.

Should have asked to see a particular, expensive gun, pulled that wad of cash out, and then said, "nah, Im just wasting your time"

What is the name of the shop so everyone knows?

Not naming the business bothers me more than how he was treated.

That's like telling your buddy some chick gave you something that causes your junk to stick to your underdrawers, but then not letting him know who she is.

I can understand the halt or suspensioning modifications by staff right now, but aren't some staff ringing up buyers of guns??

Couldn't you simply fall in line to purchase said sights or whatever they have for sale in-between the gun sale transactions?

I couldn't see Ed or Clay doing anything like that. Eds Gun in Vass and FG&G respectively. Certainly hope it was neither place.

I have three gun stores around me in the Westish North Raleigh area that I've gotten the holier than thou treatment on several occasions, haven't and will not shop in them again.

He basically told you to take your measly $75.00 bucks and shove it. Maybe you should get a real job so you can afford to buy attention and a gun from him next time.
Pretty sure I would take my $75 dollars and my business elsewhere. Buy online for cheaper and we all have sight pushers so you can do it yourself.

If. I called ahead of time to be sure we are good to go......... I would not be happy tat tall.

I could understand them being really busy and not.having time to install the sights today.....but they could at least sell them to ya.....
