He has all the particulars correct on this folks. Come out on Independence Day and shoot with us in Wilksboro. Check the updated rules at southerdefensivepistolleague.com. They are pretty simple just like the other sport back in the late 90’s to early 2000’s. We will have a pistol match them a family picnic. The match supplies hamburgers, hotdogs and the fixings. You folks supply the rest. It is always a good day with lots of friends and stories. Hope to see you there.

@fieldgrade

Are you thinking @fieldgrade would go? Might be too far for an older retiree...

I'm getting all the yard work done the next few days so next weekend will be freed up.
Mow, paint fence, mulch.

Mentioned he might travel to a shoot and was asking for information on local matches earlier in the evening, but said the distance might be a deal breaker.
I tagged him just to make sure he saw the thread since your post contained pertinent information such as cost and time .

@S4f and I were just talking about this earlier last night. I had tagged a couple of my other traveling buddies, @Amp Mangum and @dmarbell too. Our flatland and coastal matches have been hit or miss since March due to weather and the beer flu.

The July 4th weather forecast looks a little sketchy to travel as far as we’d need to Saturday morning, but it’s not out of the question.

Let me ask the question. Do you have on-line sign up and do the squads get filled up in advance, or can you walk on Saturday morning, just pay and shoot?

Can I guy your age handle that kind of work?

No online sign ups, just show up, sign up, pick your squad. The only issue is when some squads are filled more than others. Then they need to be evened out as much as possible.

Hello folks. Just checking in to let people know we are having the July Picnic match at Foothills Defensive Shooters. Please check the southerndefensivepistolleague.com page for details. It will tell you that registration opens around 9am. No online registration, not putting a limit on number of shooters, squad as you register. This month we shoot then we have our annual picnic. Check on that on the page as well.

The new rules are posted. Please read thru them, items in red are the changes. These will be in effect starting starting July1 2020. The big change is the addition of a Carry Optic division. Everything else is very straight forward.

We have had some question about masks. There is a short note about that as well. Bring a mask, you will not have to wear it all day.

I am thinking that you should bring that concealment garment. Don’t have to wear it all day, just that 90 to 120 seconds you will be shooting.

Everyone be sure to start hydrating early in the week. Bring plenty of water to the match as well.

Over here in eastern NC I have broken them of requiring concealment garments in summer at the four different matches I shoot. When it’s over 90 they know I’ll wear a vest, and pants, but not both.

Unfortunately, I will be missing this match and am unlikely to attend future matches with any predictability. We are spending the Independence Day weekend packing for a move out to Raleigh.

Happy trails

We have lots of defensive pistol matches in every direction out of Raleigh.

That’s the silver lining on this move. I’d rather be near the mountains, but there is no shortage of match opportunities in the Triangle.

I thought about joining Wautaga just to have a cooler place to shoot in the summer, but it is a fact that if you don’t mind driving a little bit you can shoot just about every Saturday between here and the coast, plus two Sundays a month, and that’s not even considering USPSA.

Ok folks. It is going to be right at 90 degrees tomorrow during the match. So I am going to say that a concealment garment is optional. We want to have fun not a heat stroke.

And on another note. We finally found a company to service the porta john at the range. They were just out getting it cleaned up and ready for the weekend.

Had a great time as usual. Lighter than expected turn out, probably due to it being the 4th.

No procedural, hit on non threat, cover calls, fail to neutralize penalties (that I know of). Just a few misses at long distances.

Hot as a SOB!

What better way to spend the 4th of July than at the range having fun with friends. Thanks to all that came out to shoot with us up in the foothills. Six fun stages, lots of banter, some heckling and a good lunch after it all. Thanks to the Two Sisters for cooking the hamburgers and hotdogs. Thanks to everyone that brought the rest of lunch. Everything I tried was great.
