I purchased a Ruger impact max elite.22 pellet rifle this past weekend and man is it accurate. It is suppressed nice wooden stock clear 4x optic and loves gamo pellets we tried a wide variety. For $150 I am very impressed and it’s a killer we and by we I mean my 11 year old boy have been hunting squirrels and stashing away free protein all week. Man I love squirrel hunting and they are tasty too. What pellet guns are you fellas shooting?

By the way, those 34s are somehow STILL on sale at Numrich for $200. Pretty good deal.

Timely. I'm in the market.

I have an older Ruger Air Hawk that is basically a Diana 34 in disguise...

I also have a Diana 48 side cocker... These tend to get a little pricey... Used to bet about $600, but now around $400.

Both are in .177. But, you know what I want now?
The Umarex Origin Pre-Charged Pneumatic (PCP) in .22... About $350

And those that haven't heard the story...

I’ve a Diana (RWS) 48 in 22. It wasn’t accurate and it just frustrated me. I tried all sorts of different holds and sandbags- still no consistent group patterns. Until it destroyed the air rifle scope, The objective lens landed at my feet when I pulled the trigger. I sent it back for a replacement and it started making one hole groups :D

An spring driven air rifle will flat destroy a normally constructed scope. Traditional scopes are set up to resist recoil in one direction. The spring driven rifles have a double recoil in opposing directions. This shakes scopes apart. Air rifle scopes are set up for that.

Yup, and it trashed a scope that's specifically for a spring driven air rifle.

Bought the same rifle today. Spent the afternoon ringing a steel plate in the back yard with it.

If you ever decide to use a metal pellet trap, there is an old trick to make it less noisy. Get some duct-seal from an electrical supply store. It is a kind of putty that stays soft for a long time. Put a good, thick layer on the inside back wall of the pellet trap so the pellets will hit this rather than the steel. Your neighbors (and everyone else nearby) will thank you.

I’d really like to get a Marauder PCP, but all the pumping seems tedious and annoying. Anyone run a PCP and have an opinion?
It is indeed tedious. Some folks just buy a scuba tank and an adapter to fill from it.
I’ve got an airforce talon in .22, it’s heavy.

I have and old chinese side cocker I think I paid $40 for. Despite it shooting 4 to 6 inches left and low with its irons, I used get some kills on squirrels. The little bastards tore up my gutter guards so I bought a Diana 48 back in January. Its a 177 because the market place didnt have any 22's and as far as I know, still dont. Shoots Miesterkuglen pellets very well. I put a Sightron SIH 4-12x40 scope on it that will focus down to like 7 yds and bought a air gun mount that has pins that go through the rings otherwise they start moving around under recoil. Excellent squirrel killing machine.

I suggest that you take the pump out near the street and right next to a sign that says: " Exotic exercise equipment. Free trials!" See if you can con any of your neighbors to do the pumping. It might be useful to say things like "Joe down the street dares anyone to beat his record of pumping" or something like that.

Don’t have a PCP but I have been looking into it. It seems like it is largely dependent on air reservoir size and operating pressure. I’ve been looking at a Gamo Urban which has a smaller tank which would be a lot easier to hand pump.

My current pellet rifle is a ruger Blackhawk elite II. I found it is really ammo picky but I picked up a JSB test kit which has 7 different types. Almost all of them yielded better groups than Crosman domed pellets and I have 2 types that can hold sub 1” at 20 yards which is probably the extent I will be shooting it. I don’t love it but it works.

I’m also in process of modding a Crosman 1377. With 10 pumps and a flat top piston I’ve been able to take squirrels at 15 yards no problem. With a couple pellets I can keep sub 1” groups at 20 yards with ease. (again, JSB and H&N pellets yielded the best groups) A custom 3D printed moderator that I designed fits without needing any modifications and still allows use of the front sight. Stupid quiet and super fun even if it has far less power than others. The hand pumping is the loudest part.

I like the Marauders but they are heavy guns. Probably my favorite right now is the Marauder pistol in 22. It’s a squirrel killing machine and is pretty lightweight. I’m using a scuba tank to fill which works fine for me. I’ll pump occasionally just to remember how much it sucks. If I shot daily I’d probably get a high pressure tank and pump to fill myself.

Are those devices on the barrel removable suppressors?

Not sure about the ones in the photo, but the one on my ,22 Gamo whisper elite is non-removable. I recall reading that they're legal for airguns as long as they are fixed/integral to the gun.

My Crossman PowerMaster 760 circa 1968, got it when I was 9 yrs old $25 and the scope was $7
Pump action repeater style, will take BB or .177 pellets. Can send a BB at 1,300 fps rifled barrel.
I used it 100% for targets and cans.IMG_20200104_200135 (Medium).jpg

I've got the same rifle / scope. But when I put the scope on I took the front sight off for a more "tacticool" look before that word ever existed. It's a pretty easy combo to dial in, you can see the BB in flight.

The Marauder's have built in internal suppressors. The other to have attached moderators by tko. They are basically built of plastic so cannot be used on a firearm.

Slayed many sparrows & starlings with one of those as a kid. Cousin & I would build hay bunkers in the barn & "battle" with our BB guns. Single pump rule used for those shenanigans.

Get it yet?

Sadly, no. It took Numrich 5 days to pick & ship the order so it didn't go out until 12/24. Delivery is targeted for 12/30 but who knows with all the shipping delays.

UPDATE: Delivery was supposed to be 12/30, but yesterday it was updated to 12/28. Of course, FedEx showed up this morning (Sunday 12/27) at 8:30 AM and rang the door bell asking for an adult signature!

They can be removable as long as they are not designed or intended for use with a firearm. There was a case US vs Crooker because he had an airgun suppressor and it could have been adapted and used on a firearm. Court found him not guilty.

Added 24” barrel to my 1377 this past week. I don’t have a chrono but some primitive tests with some pine boards showed it definitely has more penetration now. Also groups nicely at 20 yards at 8 and 10 pumps.

And those that haven't heard the story...

While reading Undaunted Courage (Lewis & Clark story) I had to look up those air rifles. I couldn't believe they had such a thing in the 19th century!

I finally had a chance to try out the RWS 34 yesterday evening at the indoor range! I added a Hawke one-piece mount and a Leapers/UTG 3-9x32 optics. All I had was some Vogel Merlin match pellets, but they seemed to shoot pretty well once I figured out the best hold. This rifle seemed a bit different than most springers and actually required a firm hold into the shoulder to shoot best.

Flyers aside, it shot just over 1/2" group with the Merlin match pellets.

Nice. I tried maybe 8 or 9 different pellets and mine liked cheap Winchester domes from tractor supply. I would imagine they’re all different but it may be worth a try.

How do you like the trigger?

I have a few air guns , a Remington , a Ruger , Crossman 2100 and Crosman 10 pump pistol. I shoot a variety of pellets - usually the pointy penetration type pellets are not as accurate as round dome type or flat nose target type
Spring air guns are rough on optics , and are very finicky about how you hold them or rest them when shooting.

My older crosman rifle and pistol have killed a ton of squirrels over the years

I haven't tried adjusting the trigger yet, but it's not a bad for a two-stage. Not really much of a crisp break between first and second stages though, but it shoots well enough.

I do intend to start experimenting with pellets, but I bought a bunch of the Merlin match from CMP a while back, so I need to get rid of those first.

Which model is the Ruger?
