show your deer harvest 2020

Here’s a couple pictures of a deer my wife’s step dad shot today. He lives in Dubois, Idaho. Him and two buddies drew tickets for the late hunt that closed today. All three got big bucks.

Hunting Mulies in the Rockies is on the short list. We scouted some fine public land near Flaming Gorge Utah in Sept. I feel ready for that now and maybe Elk when I win the lottery

No pics, sorry, but I did get myself a healthy doe this evening. Dad guesses 110lbs. I don't know, but I know she was hit with 110gr of 300blk goodness out of a Ruger American, wearing a YHM Resonator. I do have a picture of that.

Whatta you figure about $85-90 a lb as long as you already have land to hunt on?

I think there was some funny business going on here...

I thought about you as I was passing through P'boro today. Honestly, I think about you often. Sigh..
WTH! Why didn't you let me know?

You should've swung by my house and met my family! You're always welcome.

Let me know next time!

I’m sick I shot the big buck that’s been showing up on my game camera. I only got 7 inches of penetration from where he broke the arrow off. I definitely hit his shoulder blade got dad and some buddies coming in the morning to look for him.

You’ve got good temps to hold him overnight. Probably best to wait. Good luck.

My 86 year old grandpa shot a doe this am. I’ve been dragging them in and cleaning them for him here lately. I was a little aggravated when he called this morning around 10 being it was Christmas, not to mention the coldest day we’ve had this winter.

He hunts from the dining room window and I’m glad he can still put one down a 150 yards with his ol’270.

Didn’t think to take a picture when I found the deer but did take a picture of my trusty skinning knife when I got back inside to wash up.

Shot this 6 point buck at 80 yards this morning. Hit him in the left shoulder with a 35 Rem, destroyed his left shoulder and heart then exited behind t'other shoulder. He jumped high in the air, did a 180, kicked then hit the ground running. Went full tilt down the hill, careening off trees, and lost his rack, both sides. Piled up just short of the thick stuff. All that on 3 legs without a heart!

Shot one yesterday with my new 308 gun site scout with sandman s. I shot this one and she dropped and the other 4 or 5 didn’t even run I could have probably shot 2 or 3 more. The sound of the bullet striking the deer from a suppressed 308 is great.

Im still weak from Covid and was by myself. I had to wrestle her ass to get her in the back of the truck. If you walk into a gas station covered in blood, while open carrying a pistol, with no mask people tend to socially distance themselves from you EE188922-C0A3-423D-9861-A3A22BCC3B1A.jpeg

Stupid question:

I'm in Chatham County. The website says rifle hunting season is Nov14 to Jan 1st. The first is on Friday.

I just want clarification. Can I kill a deer on Friday, the 1st, or is the last day to kill one on Thursday?

Thanks guys.

Yeah you can hunt on the 1st. We used to do man drives on the first.

Dang... It's supposed to be raining today, Thursday, and Friday...

Any chance they'll come out in the rain, or will I be wasting my time?

I’m planning to be out tomorrow in Chatham, if it’s heavy they may hold tight in cover. I went out a couple weeks ago on the Monday we had the big downpour, had fresh sign by the thick cover.

Generally they will be on their feet if it isn't raining too hard. If it rains all day Thursday then Friday morning might be a good hunt, again if it slows to a light rain anyway.

Rain is holding off till 11am tomorrow, so i'm going to hit the woods in the morning for what is likely my last hunt of the year. Might finally get to do the .22 fun shoot for December when i climb down.

I love light rain misty weather hunts!! I have 3 bucks mounted and all three were killed in light/med rain. Not downpours or heavy steady but they will move between showers.

One thing I've noticed from all the post and it was true back in the 70's and 80's when I deer hunted regularly. The vast majority of the deer killed in the Carolinas is at less than 100 yards and a good many at less than 50. Nothing has changed in 40 years and I still get amused when I'm in gun shops and someone buys a 300 Win Mag with the largest scope in the shop.
