Well, maybe not you... 🤭most folks aren't twenty inches deep in any dimension
A left wing one who wants to make a point and ignores all sharps and infectious disease protocols. There was actually a left wing doctor that said that the bullet was so sharp that he cut his finger removing one from a patient. Who the hell takes out a bullet with his damn fingers?
It's what I carryA left wing one who wants to make a point and ignores all sharps and infectious disease protocols.
They were nothing more than the first really good Jacketed Hollow Point with a great marketing department behind them.
Eventually, Winny retired the SXT rounds, and they became the Winchester Ranger series of bullets, still carried by many LEO agencies today.
I sold several boxes 10 years ago for $50 for the 9mm and $75 for 357 mag and $100 for 44 mag. Man wanted them bad. He turned down the 40 S&W for $60. For $300 a box I wound sell some moreI just Googled the UPC code....

I think the "street value" is more like $10 or $20 over comparable current-ammo prices. The idea that Talons are rare-and-therefore-valuable seems to not play out in actual prices people pay for the stuff.
I don’t remember what I paid for a box of 10mm black talons recently. I know I ripped the price tag off as soon as I bought them so I wouldn’t be reminded of the price. They were right at or north of $3/perI just Googled the UPC code....

Check out this street-cred...
I just pulled out my box of Black Talons. In it I had the forethought to keep the local newspaper clipping from 1993...
I wonder whatever happened to that Schumer fellow mentioned in the article.... do you think he's still up to no good?

The funniest thing to me about the "razor sharp claws tearing up everything in their path" nonsense that was in the news usually talked about how the bullets were spinning at (insert RPM here).
Let's do some math.... assume a 1,200 fps bullet, out of a 1-in-10 twist barrel (G-17ish). that's 14,400 inches per second. Divide by 10 (barrel twist), that's 1,440 revs-per-second or an amazing 86,400 rpm!!!!! 😱😳😬 OH NOES!!!!! These spinning monstrosities are spinning 86,000+ rpm! That must be super-fast and terribly destructive!!
Meanwhile... the real math..... most folks aren't twenty inches deep in any dimension that matters. All we need is the twist rate to know that the bullet can only travel about two total revolutions inside someone. And that assumes the bullet keeps its velocity (which it doesn't).
I definitely remember more than one "news outlet" mentioning the "RPM" of the bullet, since that is a scarier number than "2".

Yep!It's what I carry View attachment 340657
Interesting hypothesis but potentially flawed in that velocity and spin rate could change independently after impact. . I wonder if any of the high-speed balistic gel videos can corroborate?Meanwhile... the real math..... most folks aren't twenty inches deep in any dimension that matters. They are now collectors items
85k rpm / 60 = 1416 rpsInteresting hypothesis but potentially flawed in that velocity and spin rate could change independently after impact. . I wonder if any of the high-speed balistic gel videos can corroborate?

You know, the more I think about it.....Not so, if velocity decreases faster than spin that model breaks. I dont think I can predict max min or anywhat about terminal ballistics. thats why I suggested the gel videos.
1. They are no longer commercially available.Lmao. Really. You don't believe that do you?
As @Flashpoint stated above-1. They are no longer commercially available.
2. They have no qualities superior to currently available ammunition.
3. Knowing the above, people pay a premium for them.
Sounds like a collector's item to me.
After reading that hollow points will not reliably open up until they're sonic, and fabric clogs the hollow and they perform the same as a FMJ. In the 90's I did a non-scientific ammo test using ~20 5 gal buckets filled with water. I used a G23 (40S&W) and a Ruger P90 in .45 and a bunch of different SD ammo. The Black Talon's hollow points filled with plastic, zipped through the bucket, and was stopped several inches into a railroad tie. Hydroshocks expanding were ~50/50. The velocity seemed to be the ticket. 40S&W 135g Cor-Bon was impressive, the bucket would come off the ground ~a foot with an impressive water spray. Winchester 40S&W 155g Silver tip by far out performed the others. The bucket would lift a couple feet, and ripped completely in two, held together only by the bead for the lid, perpendicular to the shot. The rounds didn't exit the bucket, and measured 0.9"+.Sometimes Magic Bullets don't always work...........
This bullet entered chest cavity frontal shot on a Cougar, and was found the end of the chest cavity lengthwise. Cougar ran about 20-25 yards before having heart failure...........Of course, this bullet did not expand as you can see.
Fortunately, it was already .45 caliber.............
If you really want to be impressed by hydrostatic shock effects, shoot a 1 gallon jug of water at 100 yards with a 50 BMG.After reading that hollow points will not reliably open up until they're sonic, and fabric clogs the hollow and they perform the same as a FMJ. I didn't know LEO had carried them.
40 S&W 155 GR. Winchester Silvertip HP
bought this box of ammo today. I had never seen a Silvertip pistol cartridge before. they were very pricey but i dont see how they couldnt perform very well. I carry Hydra Shok's 135 gr 40's right now but am thinking about loading my mag with these silvertips. can anyone let me know if they...www.thehighroad.org
I have yet to even see any other boxes of magnum rifle cartridges like man anywhere, even online. I agree it’s definitely a niche1. They are no longer commercially available.
