Ends all training for concealed handgun permits or other defensive firearm training at outdoor ranges.

sounds like click bait.... although maybe since you can't shoot moving targets you can't shoot while you move either. or something.

the left loves click bait, I wish our side wouldn't turn to the same tired ass tactic.

Well, that'll never fly in Davie County.

After reading Jayne’s comment, how legit is this?
If they’re really trying to do this, I may have to join/send $ to GRNC.

Read the actual proposed ordinance. While the proposed ordinance is stupid, GRNC's description of the ordinance is a bit too enthusiastic.

It takes a lot of imagination to get from the language in the proposed ordinance to "Ends all training for concealed handgun permits or other defensive firearm training at outdoor ranges."

The claim that the proposed ordinance "Bans even shooting a rat in your own barn with a .22 rifle" is also stretching. The proposed ordinance provides a specific exemption for "Persons lawfully engaged in pest control."

When I took my chp class in Chatham County, the instructor had us shoot on his large rural property to qualify.

I've read the proposed ordinance. Thank you for sharing it.

If that ordinance had been in force, in Chatham County, it would have made it illegal to shoot the course of fire on his property.

Posting the information about the proposed ordinance was very good to inform people.

Please do not embarrass yourself with the usual GRNC tactic of quibbling to refuse admitting an exaggerated statement. "Ends all training for concealed handgun permits" is a very clear, absolute and inaccurate claim that is not supported by your personal account about where one instructor conducted qualification for one class in the past.

Absolutely true. It is a very large stretch.

Why are you so upset about GRNC trying to raise awareness?

Yes, it's a poorly written email. But, none of us knew about any of this, and now it's got us all taking about it, which is a good thing...

You seem angry or upset at GRNC, not the people who keep trying to legislate away our 2A rights.

Subtly suggesting that anyone questioning GRNC must be "angry or upset at GRNC" or is less supportive of 2A rights is another objectionable tactic GRNC uses.

I do not like falsehoods; if truth cannot prevail, trying to win does not justify lies. GRNC's efforts to defend 2A rights all too often becomes overly enthusiastic and things get stretched. I prefer to keep things as honest as possible.

"As honest as possible"...

Like going back to your own previous comments and editing them to try to strengthen your argument?

This is nothing new. Other localities have laws on the books already that restrict discharging a firearm or even a pellet gun inside city limits.

I am not aware of any counties wide restrictions but the idea that this is some new approach to taking away NC residents 2nd amendment rights is simply not true. It is an old tactic.

Also the statement about ending all training for concealed carry permit classes etc… is nothing but click bait hyperbole trying to whip people into a frenzy to generate donations to their organization. It is a complete red herring. IMHO

Okay, the gloves are off. I often change comments -adding, removing, or just improving content- until a response is posted. Your suggestion that I changed a comment after reading a response to a post is untrue.

If you want to call me a liar, have the backbone to come out and say it directly.

You win.

While GRNC has a habit of “making mountains out of molehills” per say, so do politicians. Regardless of how one interprets this, it’s a first step into what will be a continual matter. I say the commissioners meeting should have a crowd there on behalf of this “proposed ordinance”

By ALL means... let them come & ENFORCE, THEIR laws... 😁

I'm pretty sure that's what Andy Jackson told Chief Justice Marshall, in the GA vs. Cherokee Nation decision. 😎

Grnc is always poorly written

GRNC is about like the NRA to some here. The stunt being pulled with the RHINO costume and then the traditional “ if you don’t support Paul Valone and GRNC then you will lose your gun rights got old. I still support them but the antics is what is really annoying. It’s almost along the lines the NrA does or did.

I’m already a skeptical person. I dropped the NRA due to the non stop “THE SKY IS FALLING!” e-mails and letters. Then the Wayne LePew and then the mismanagement info came out.
GRNC does do some local good work. These entities need to keep it to, “Just the facts m’am” or you’ll lose my ear and support.

Part of the reason I bought 20 acres for just one house was to be able to shoot and hunt.
I’ll get wound around the axle if Chatham tells me I can’t pew.

not only has it worked for the nra for decades, it would still be working if they didn't have that nasty business of wayne fresh in people's minds. and they keep denying it anyway, so there probably are plenty of fudds that don't know anything about it. you sure won't be reading about it in First Freedom

I’ve been thinking that if Guilford county wants to try to pull this crap, the first thing they need to do is inform the sheriff that he needs to close down his 600 acre training facility and gun range.
Of course, the ordinance has a caveat saying that it's legal for leo to shoot whenever and wherever they want to "train".

Haha

Here's GOA' s alert I received this morning.

Here's GOA' s alert I received this morning.

I was about to post this email as well. If you don't want to read the whole thing, read and do this:
First and foremost, plan to attend, in person, the Public Hearing scheduled for 5:30 pm on Thursday, August 5th in the Commissioners’ Meeting Room located on the second floor of the Old County Courthouse, 301 W. Market St., Greensboro.

******************************************************************
GOA has learned of an insidious, local, behind-the-scenes scheme that, like Biden’s weaponized BATFE, focuses on turning law-abiding citizens into criminals rather than taking meaningful action to take murderous criminals off the streets.

Anti-gunners are seeking to effectively ban shooting on private property, starting in Guilford County, by rewriting Firearm Discharge Ordinances. These ordinances are designed, not to provide reasonable public safety as proponents would claim, but rather to create wide swaths of areas within counties where the lawful discharge of firearms for training or recreation is simply prohibited.

Nowhere is this more evident than in Guilford County, where “woke” Democrat Sheriff Danny Rogers has resisted issuing both Pistol Purchase and Concealed Handgun Permits for over a year now.

Now Guilford County also has a newly-elected Democrat majority County Commission (7-2), and they are showing signs that they wish to come after the rights of the law-abiding rather than do anything to stop violent criminals.

Take for example the recent case of a young minority gun owner who asked for the Commission’s help in getting her concealed carry permit approved. Rather than insist that Sheriff Rogers fulfill his lawful role and issue her a permit, the Commission suddenly decided it was necessary to make changes to Guilford County’s Firearms related Ordinance(s).

Many of these regulations have been untouched for decades. With little to justify making changes, a Public Hearing to do just that is now scheduled for Thursday, August 5.

We must unite to immediately STOP this ban on private shooting, an assault on the private property and Second Amendment rights of Guilford County citizens, or it will surely snowball across the state.

For example, nearby Forsyth County is considering the same path with their Firearms Discharge Ordinance(s) up for consideration at a Thursday, August 12, Planning and Zoning Commission meeting.

These Ordinances set ridiculous dimensions of so-called “setbacks” from occupied structures (in some cases including your own) and/or property lines and create a nightmare of conditions to wade through that only those with very large properties can hope to satisfy.

There are no exceptions accounting for natural or manmade backstops -- and in some cases, proposed ordinances would require shooters to be a half-mile away from any occupied structure.

Simply put, these ordinances are designed to terminate the rights of property owners to decide what is the best use of their properties and deviously designed to prevent gun owners from discharging their firearms for training, recreation, hunting, and possibly even self-defense.

Worse, the ordinances are inherently racist in nature because the first group of people denied their rights are primarily minorities, the young, and those not wealthy enough to acquire the large acreage requirements necessary to comply with the arbitrarily imposed conditions of compliance.

These ordinances must be fought by every North Carolina citizen who cherishes their Second Amendment rights and their rights to determine how they use their property.

What Must We Do?

Stop Efforts to Criminalize the Law-Abiding by Prohibiting the Lawful Discharge of Firearms on Private Property in Guilford County

Suggested Message:
“Dear Commissioner,

As a supporter of Gun Owners of America, I urge you to not restrict shooting on private property in Guilford County.

Such an action would be a violation of the Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution and would violate private property rights of every landowner in Guilford County. I am not sure the Commission has fully considered the ramifications of such an act, and I am not sure the act is even legal under State and Federal Law.

After a year with record-breaking gun sales, gun owners new and old need all available opportunities to safely and responsibly exercise their right to keep and bear arms.

Instead of proposing solutions in search of problems, GOA urges the commission to remember its responsibility to adhere to both private property rights and Constitutional Rights, and to uphold the God-given rights of its citizens.

Respectfully,

[Your Name]”

I’ll get wound around the axle if Chatham tells me I can’t pew.

You better start getting wound up then. The flood gates are open in chatham and those that are coming dont want to be scared by random gunfire. Take a cruise through the local nextdoor app and you will see what is coming from all the new folks settling in.

You guys balking saying it’ll never happen or not in my “red county”… Catawba county (a red county) has had something similar on the books for years. Except it’s 500’, so 50’ worse:
Section 22-61
“It shall be unlawful for any person to discharge or fire any pistol, shotgun, rifle or other firearm of any description whatsoever on or from any public street or highway or the rights-of-way thereof or within 500 feet of a dwelling or of an outbuilding of a dwelling not owned by the person in the county. This subsection does not apply to any law enforcement officer engaged in official duty.”

Neighbor just builds an outbuilding at the edge of their property if they want you to stop.
