Wasn't sure where to post this.

Looking at some land in Franklin Co. Would like to be able to shoot on it..

Only restrictions I can find is 100 yards from road and neighbors residences.... then your typical noise ordinances (dusk to dawn limits...)

Anything else I need to know about?

Land is old farm land. I'd prefer a Forrest for sound control but beggers can't be choosers...

Any thoughts/legal input appreciated...

You also really need to build some type of effective backstop or berm structure. That may not be an express requirement in the zoning ordinances, but it is assumed that you will keep your bullets on your own property. Sending bullets uncontrolled onto or across other people's properties is a really good way to get arrested, sued or worse.

When I bought my land, everyone told me to call zoning about restrictions. My only restriction was I can't shoot across a road (lol).
Just make sure all your rounds stay in the vehicle then.

Watching, I've been looking for a few acres for this purpose.

I live in Fco, let me know if you need help with clearing/grading etc. Same as others, just make sure you have a backstop.

Yeah I did see the backstop requirement as well. That's common sense. Backstop is easy enough.

I want wooded land but man oh man, it's impossible to find for a reasonable price. Farm lands not ideal, but I figure I could take the next few decades to reforest lol

I own 30 acres of heavily forested land in Chatham County. Bought the land specifically so I could hunt and shoot as much as I like.

Well, nobody told me that the old lady next door, 750 yards away (as the crow flies through the woods) was an old curmudgeon.

Each time I shot, for the first few weeks, she'd call the sheriff on me, even though I was totally legal. It got to the point that the deputy wouldn't even stop. They'd drive down my driveway, waive, and drive away.

Then, she started calling the sheriff on me when other people were shooting on their land, in the opposite direction of my house! It wasn't even me!

I went and talked to the sheriff. He said, "You're not doing anything wrong. Shoot as much as you want, but if she calls, I have to send somebody to check it out."

I ended up getting a membership to an outdoor range. I don't even shoot on my own land because of that old witch.

But, I tell you what, when she dies I'm gonna go outside in my yard and shoot guns all day to celebrate...

Chatham County lady found shot dead in front yard. News at 11:00.

I was told " in a safe location and into a bullet stop". But officers often came out due to neighbors complaining. Deep rural farm land. But it's getting worse with all the carpet baggers coming in and bringing northern mindsets.
Hey!!! I am one of the people that moved to NC from the north.
My mindset is “Live Free or Die” so I had to move because the liberal Massholes were invading Southern NH.
Don’t lump all northerners into the liberal Karen basket… There are a lot of 2A freedom loving people up north.

You need to host a forum shoot & do your level best to make that old biddy's life hell. Guarantee the Sheriff will get sick of her shit. Maybe time to start playing with some Tannerite?

Well.. we shoot A LOT on private land. Don't be near horse farms. You can never be far enough away. Anyways we were shooting and put the guns up. Police (30 min response time) came out said yea old lady again. Hey that looks cool-so we let them shoot a few toys. Later that day we had a guy retiring sit a UH 60 down and power take off. She never called again guess she thought it was ok if the government was doing it.

Why??? Sheriff says "cool"...curious why would you stop???
At the risk of sounding like a sissy: I didn't want to give the old lady any more grief. I can shoot, anytime I want, 10 miles from my house for $65 per year. And, I don't shoot that much.

Catching flies with honey and not vinegar, blah, blah, blah...

She's in her 90's. I don't have to wait much longer till she's gone.

If roles were reversed, I'd hope someone else would be compassionate to me, as well.

Makes COMPLETE sense to me....Thanks for clarification.....Billy
But, like I said, when she's gone there will be a fun day of shooting in the backyard, and I'll probably stop paying for my range membership.

And, the range I go to is private. There are no RSOs. I can go anytime I want, day or night. Ihave keys to the property. It's very much like shooting at my house, just 10 miles away.

Also, there have been MANY times that I have stepped out onto my back porch and fired off 10 or 20 shots rapid fire, just to function test a new weapon. I still do that. And, I'm done before she has time to call the sheriff. Hahaha.

Sounds like an opportunity to buy some suppressors!

I never thought that you'd call me a sissy. I just meant, for other people reading this later.

You and I have not yet met, but we will, one day. And, I'm sure we'll get on like long lost friends

I will be moving to 2 acres in Roxboro in the next year or so and will be looking for a place to shoot
Either a range or private property.
I am trained to pick up after myself.
Any ideas?

Same thing use to happen everytime @TASK(Triad Action Shooting Klub) when they would have there machine gun shoots, the owner would say OK lets get started so the sheriff can come by. Sure enough he'd come check the paperwork and say all is in order have fun.

When it warms up, perhaps a CFF Meet, Greet, Shoot and eat is called for? :) I'm sure a cannon or two can be obtained.

For anyone buying land and setting up a range, please be courteous to your neighbors and ask if they have a range so you do not setup close to it.
I have had a great outdoor range for years in Guilford and someone bought the land behind me. They have a lot of acres they could have put a range but for some reason, decided to put theirs right at the end of mine. What irks me is they know exactly where my range is, I have steels all over they place and they even mentioned my steels when I originally talked to them(before they put their range up). I now need to move mine even though I shoot into an uphill backstop, I just cannot in good conscious shoot not knowing who may be out at the end.. During the winter I can see fine but come spring/summer when the leaves come out, no go. Just please check with others first. I know it is your land and you can do what you want, but gun owners should help gun owners IMO.

Hopefully closing on 9 acres next week in Brunswick Co. Need to do some clearing but deciding how to construct a backstop with paying a small fortune for fill etc. Figure I’ll start with 22LR and go up from there. How much sand is needed to stop 9mm from a PCC… have an idea how to build a sand box trap…

In Brunswick also good luck on your land.
I'm about 2 miles from the Holden Beach Bridge.

Thanks, we’re in Boiling Spring Lakes, but land is in Bolivia. It’ll be nice to be out of city limits!
