Remington caved...

Disgusting. Can’t sue car makers for drunk drivers, McDonald’s for people being fat. Lawsuits on inanimate objects should be popping up all over now

Remington is not Remington. They have been broken into many pieces during the bankruptcy proceedings.

I am not sure who paid who, nor the legal status of a lawsuit pending on a bankruptcy of this kind.

Remington is a brand name now that sold it's categories of goods to everyone. No different then Browning, CVA, and so, so many others.
 
Was this the new owners caving or the older set?
 
I am going to tell you guys something. Newtown is the city that the headquarters of NSSF is in.

The National Shooting Sports Foundation is who does Shot Show and does alot of legal lobbing in DC and all 50 states. They are deeply tied into the gun industry as a whole.

So who's on the hook for the settlement? Old Remington? The 15 new owners? or is it an "empty pocket" settlement?

Undisclosed settlement, but you can rest assured that this is the beginning of the end for liability protection for what crazed lunatics do with regards to firearms, and who is held responsible. Now it's the manufacturer's fault....and don't think for a minute this doesn't become fuel in the fire of the current Administration's push for more gun control.

So where and how could this settlement impact the industry going forward?

Are gun manufacturers going to be sued anytime a weapon that's called an "assault weapon" is used in a shooting?

Will they'll settle because of this CT outcome? Will that drive prices up and maybe some out of business?

So now the antis, including Biden, can reheat the debate that we don't need these "assault weapons" on the street.

Seems like a lot could be unpacked because of this settlement.

Now that a precedent has been set, its time to start suing other companies over their advertising?

Drunks suing Budwiser because the commercial promised a good time, and not a DUI? Cars being sued because they were advertised as fast and powerful, and made someone wreck?
 
The whole thing is "meh". The laws are already on the books that limit these types of lawsuits. If they (Remington or whoever) wanted to, they could have litigated it all the way up to the federal level and won.
By settling, the whole thing goes away and they look good to the "woke" crowd for "stepping up" and "taking responsibility". Blah, blah, blah.

ETA: Now if the advertisements flat out said "This rifle is great for assaults on institutions of learning"? That's another story..

In the article I posted shows a settlement number of 70 mil...now, who gets what piece of that remains a mystery....just like however many people were involved, NOT ONE parent, kid or school worker has come forward seeking their 15 min of fame...
You can't expect any logical thinking person to believe none of the children have spoken of this outside of their peer groups, and none of the soccer moms , janitorial staff etc have remained silent all these years..
But that is another rabbit hole for another time!

The rifle was Lanza's mother and she had it locked in a safe. Lanza killed his mother and obviously had the code or key to the safe and took the rifle and committed the atrocity in Newtown. How does the case is litigated that Remington (and Remington acquiesced and settled) marketed the riffle to a retard is beyond my understanding.
 
So, correct me if I am wrong, but this sets no legal precedent, just tells me that whoever is in charge of Remington now has no spine.

With this precedent, it only a matter of time! They left won’t quit and you can’t appease them.
