Top is a 10/22 that’s only original parts are the receiver and bolt. Kidd trigger, Kidd barrel, Victor Company Titan. For now, a SWFA SS 3-15X EGW 20MOA rail.

Bottom is a 10/22 with a Boyd’s stock, BSA Sweet 22 scope, ER Shaw barrel, nothing else touched on it.

So the Red One is going to go through some changes. Wanting to dump the barrel for a light weight barrel, drop the scope for a red dot, and lose weight for a race gun I think.

The Kidd out too gun will stay the way it is, I did have the Vortex Viper PST on it, but decided to use it on my 224 V project Gun.

I can play, but my "10/22" isn't at all a "10/22" .
Volquartsen Ultralight Custom in a Victor Titan stock. Meopta 3-15 scope mounted in Steiner rings. I have a single Harris bipod that I shuffle around from rifle to rifle as needed.

Never shot a Vol, I’m pretty much in the Kidd universe.

I’ve kept my distance from 10/22s so I don’t get sucked into the rabbit hole because I know myself and how much I like to tinker and DIY stuff.

Well I can’t avoid it any longer. I got a Clark Custom barrel and a BX trigger at an auction last week so now I’m diving in.

I think I’m gonna keep it with a wood stock, bed it, do some mods to make the stock adjustable.

My opinion is Kidd has the dual stage trigger to beat. Outside of that they're apples to apples same thing. I don't mind the single stage on my Volquartsen. It's got enough weight to it that it's still practical as a woods gun, while not being terribly hindered on a bench.

I’ve got a bone stock, plain Jane, wood stocked 10-22 sitting new in box. I’ve done well so far ignoring it while focusing on other builds…this thread probably won’t help with that.

10/22s are the AR15s of the rimfire world.

Got a few ideas on what I want to do over time. The red one was going to be my daughters first rifle, but she isn’t ready. So I’m leaning towards making it a light weight with a red dot, so that when she is ready, it will be easier for her to handle.

The ER Shaw barrel is not threaded, so it has to go anyways.

I put this one together around 2005 or so when the first tacsol aluminum barrels came out. Paired with a green Hogue stock, 2-7 Leupold, and some VQ guts.

Good shooter and goofy light, right around 5lbs with the scope if I recall correctly. For the longest time, this was the rifle that ALWAYS went to the range with me for some plinking.

i have a few 10/22’s and am interested in upgrading at least one of them. Any suggestions on places or manufacturers that are good to go, to get stocks, barrels, triggers etc… to make solid upgrade.

Kidd, Volquartsen, Tactical Solutions

Honestly, first thing I'd do is swap a trigger and maybe a stock. A Kidd trigger will make the whole rifle feel like a million bucks.

I have 5 or 6 10/22's and a couple older Volquartsen rifles. Probably my favorite is a 10/22 tactical stainless with a threaded stainless standard barrel, Magpul stock and Kidd trigger. Not much done to it but it is a nice light weight shooter. I did recently buy a Charger with folding brace I'm looking forward to getting out. Still don't have an optic picked out for it yet.

Sounds like a lot the me. Sure it is a Great shooter.
I was just looking at some of the sites suggested upstream, the possibilities look nice and expensive.
We shot it as is when I bought it and my son did an Appleseed with the same gun. Later, I added a Magpul stock to get a higher cheek weld for him. When he got bored and moved onto AR's, I added the Kidd trigger for myself. Great shooting gun and it was threaded from the factory so that makes it nice to add a suppressor.

Darn 10/22's. I love the things.

Not to long ago I found out Faxon made barrels for them. The stock barrel wouldn't do minute of squirrel with match ammo so I got one.

Misordered and ended up with a bull barrel instead of the full barrel. so naturally gave in and picked up a Magpul stock. With replacement internals from VQ, a vortex 2-7x and federal automatch bulk box, it would tap .410 shells off a target stand at 50yds every shot. I love that little set up. (Can't find the pic of it at the moment)...

Of course then my bil outbid my "want to keep it price" and trades my ol' reliable stocker ss he talked me out of a few years before back. But now I'm torn. I love how light the old one is, so...

I'm going to eventually do a full build around a Faxon barrel and reciever with another Magpul stock.

Darned 10/22's

Check out the Victor Company Titan I posted. If you’re around Gastonia, I would let you check it out before going with the Magpul

I like the Brimstone trigger and mag release. I have that setup on this rifle and a braced Charger that my son shoots.

How’s that barrel?

Is $515.00 OTD a decent price for an OD Magpul Backpacker?
These days seems a hair high but not crazy. I managed to get a backpack stock for $75 on Amazon, they seem to discount them often enough. So check that against a factory backpacker.

I just picked up a Backpacker at Academy today. I ordered it last week. $515 OTD. Hyatt's wanted $550 and that doesn't include tax or any of the other fees that they have!

I got mine for $350 pre-pandemic and added the $75 stock so not terrible in this day. I think basic fixed are 299 With takedowns a good bit higher. Regardless enjoy!

I want a takedown… with a mist barrel…

Thanks @CHRIS_WNC for enabling me.

It’s my next fabricated itch I need to scratch. 😁

Isn’t PSA supposed to start making a 10/22 clone like the Glock Dagger? Would love to build one but not wanting to spend a grand on a VQ / TacSol model.

I'd heard about receivers, not whole guns. Whole guns would be cool though.

If I wanted a target gun I'd buy about 5 other types of rimfire, none would be semi-auto (although Marlins do shoot great out of the box) and I wouldn't do anything but set the trigger pull adjustment. Anschutz, CZ et al all make quality rimfires for not much more than Ruger charges now.
Back when they were $188 for a Stainless model at the local big box, sure building it was fun and effective. At $350+......meh.

That being said I used my Walmart special stainless model to dispatch an aggressive catbird this morning. Great tool for the job

I picked up a plain 10/22 carbine earlier this week. Pulled the factory barrel off last night and putting the Clark barrel on. The factory barrel was so freakin tight in there. I had to freeze the whole thing, then heat up the receiver, clamp the barrel in the vise, and then knock the receiver out with some wood and a hammer and it still took some heavy blows. The Clark barrel went on much easier but I still had to freeze the barrel and heat the receiver.

Before going full-bore on glass bedding I am going to do aluminum bedding using the guide found on Rimfire Central in the SuperStock section. The Clark barrel I bought is actually one of their old pencil barrels - so I don't have to do any stock modifications for the barrel - just bedding. We'll see how it goes.
