The "Fire-Bowl" thread

That camera takes great pics. My iphone SE is better than the last throw-away phone my wife kept tucked away, but only by a little bit.
The camera is what I like most about this phone

Shovel em into an air tight metal container, seal it up and save em for cookin. 😎
I’ve always wanted to do that

awright. stupid question. Would it have deleterious effects to just squirt the hose on them, then let them dry out?

Far as I know, no, I know people who have done that as well. Just have to let them dry well. I’m told the forestry service in Bladen used to do that and sell the bags of coal years ago.

Shoveling in to an air tight container and sealing just kills the smoldering coals and they remain dry. Not to mention no muddy mess from water/ash.

I’ve started to save some of mine from oak and other hard woods. Haven’t cooked on any yet but it’s good lookin charcoal.
Some of the best deer I've ever had in my life was from an impromptu cook out at hunt camp on a rainy day over an oak fire
in an old skidder wheel. Just chucked a ham from a very small deer on a grate with aluminum foil over top of it and sat around swappin war stories for several hours. Damn that was good! 😋

I forgot to post this from last weekend.
My oldest son and his family came to the Bridge and brought 15 new birds to my wife and I.
So I made a fire early Saturday morning, waiting for them to wake up and come over after arriving about 145am Sat morning and stashing the birds in one of our sheds.

Working in the backyard today and decided to light a fire. Found a pile of Christmas tree trimmings (from last year) and tossed it in with a cardboard box:

After burning some various limbs and debris, I tossed some junk wood into the bowl…guess I’ll just sit out here for a bit and watch it burn.

Also finally ordered a cover for it today. Just gotta figure out what I’m gonna use as a center pole to keep the cover from sagging and collecting water. Any suggestions?

ETA: I think I figured it out…just need to wait for it to be empty and the cover arrive.

Made a tripod the height you need, wood, PVC, etc.

I ordered one of these ember screens for mine just for the purpose of keeping my cover from sagging.

I sure ain’t paying this price for one! 😳

It’s still not cheap at $127.00 but quite a bit cheaper than that 42” screen you posted above. Mine is 31”.

It's worth a little more to help keep hot coals and an unexpected wind gust from causing some fire hazard issues. I can see a number of reasons to cover it up especially if you have to leave suddenly and have a fire going on.

My beautiful bride and I are gonna have a steak cooked over the Firebowl tonight. I just finished blowing most of the leaves outta the yard.

Put some small pieces on top to have some surface area to get hot quickly.

Finally got around to mounting my kindling splitter that Diana got me for Christmas last year. Busting some small red oak pieces on it. Cooking our steak over oak tonight

We’re splitting one pretty thick ribeye. Black and tan seasoning, oak coals. If you’ve never had one, you’re missing out

The first cover didn’t come close to working. Said it was for a 44” and this was the pic:

This is how it fit:

Ordered a different one, and we’re in business. Actually attaches to two opposite legs.

This is my awesome design with a couple dumpster 2x4s and a few slices of pool noodle:

Guess I’ll see at the next rain if it water still pools up or not…
