Hey, had a great time today. Sorry I didn't get to talk to you, we were on opposite ends of the table. I thought the Carolina Brewery restaurant was fine, good food and being right off 64 it's easy to get to.

Yes was a good time. Got stuck at the other end of the table and had to talk to @Stick 😂

I'm waiting for Compadres to come around again. The Mod might be interesting considering the owner's recent escapades with drugs and LE, lol.

I believe the Mod has new owners now who are trying to get their liquor license back.

I went to Compadres the other day. I'm not sure what happened. Maybe it has to do with Aye Toro moving in across the street. But their food quality went up significantly.

It was shocking how much better the food was.

LOL! Yeah, I get that reaction a lot...

Are you going to do the 2 gun rimfire this weekend at DPRC? If so I will see you then.

Think I'm just going to show up and get a feel for it. I'll bring my stuff but I'm a magazine or 3 short, also wasn't sure about signing up re. classing and squading and all. I'm fine with just observing and talking to you guys. Ben will probably talk me into shooting, lol.

If you watch you are going to want to shoot :). Guaranteed. Bring what you got and don't worry about squads, someone will help you out. If you need mags for a 10-22 or Buck Mark I have some extras. This late they will just put you where ever there is an opening. The weather man says it's going to be a great day!

I've been really enjoying those matches. I got a new job and wasn't able to get that day off ☹️

Hopefully I'll make the next one.

You’re shooting really really good too! Congrats on the job. Hope to see you next month.

Some of you victims fine folks showed up for the match today. It was a great time! And unsurprisingly you all shot really well!

Thank you for coming out! Hope you all had a good time.

Yes it was mucho fun. Thanks so much Ben for all that you did to make it fun and hassle free for us new folks. I hope to make the next one.

If’n you’re a wings fan, Apex Wings in Apex is a tasty dive.
Apex Wings are the best wings in the state IMHO. The staff and owners are great and its reasonable priced. This is not a paid ad LOL and I have nothing financial to gain from their business there. I would be all in there as I am looking for an excuse to go there and its a 30 mile drive for me.

They do a traditional wing buffet every Tuesday for $15.50. We usually hit it up every week and sample some of their taps also.

I love wings! I didn't know this place existed!
Man, you live between my two favorite wing joints!!! Apex wings in well..... Apex and WingMans in Carrboro. WingMans has a spectacular wing lunch, they also have good burgers for the non wingers like my wife.

Wingman is decent. We used to go there frequently on Fridays. Personally, I like East Coast Wings better, but the closet one is about 40 miles away.

When we meet in January would someone please volunteer to give a brief overview of the 2 gun rimfire matches?
What equipment is required? What equipment do people actually use? What are the courses of fire?
Number of rounds?
Thank you.

To get to the specific questions asked:

What equipment is required?

A pistol and a rifle, both chambered in 22lr.

What equipment do people actually use?

The majority of people compete in 'open' category and use a magazine fed rifle and pistol, each with a reflex-type red dot optic.
A smaller but often skilled set of competitors elect to compete in 'limited' category where both firearms must use iron sights.

In a practical sense, five magazines are required per firearm. There isn't time to reload between strings.

Also, it should be noted that reliability of the firearm is a more important aspect than, say, absolute accuracy.
That's unlike many other shooting sports; here, you just have to hit the target which is neither far nor small, in relative terms.
A firearm that jams every string is no fun for the competitor nor anyone else.

The selection of firearm is a highly personal choice and often competitors idealize their equipment for this particular sport.
Any new competitors should start with what they already have and go from there.
HOW to idealize the equipment is a very long discussion best had in person over a series of matches.

What are the courses of fire?

At the DPRC event there are generally four ranges at which both rifle and pistol are fired, for a total of eight stages.
You join a squad of between 5 and 15 people who rotate between the ranges as the squad completes the two stages at each range.

At each stage there are five strings of fire, timed.
Your slowest string time is discarded and the other four added up; that's your stage time score.

Between five and seven steel targets of various sizes but generally 8" or larger are set at distances from 10 to 20 yards, plus or minus.
There is one stop plate. You may engage the targets in any order you wish, but, the stop plate must be hit last.

Missed targets are counted as 2 seconds on the score.

When the range officer starts the timer, the shooter will begin aimed at a start point not on any of the targets; finger off the trigger.
*** Strict cold-range discipline and related safety procedures are followed. ***

Unlike steel challenge, each stage at 2 gun rimfire is different at each event.
You can't 'game' this game. Everyone has the same handicap.

Number of rounds?

Eight stages of seven targets each times five strings equals 280 rounds. That is if you don't miss any at all.
400 is what might be considered a typical minimum to be prepared with.
Bring 560 rounds (eights times seven, for all of your 10 ten-round magazines) and you'll go home with plenty for your next practice session.

The fellas already did such a great job there’s little I have to add.

The only thing changing going forward is likely a small reduction in the number of stages we have each month. The matches are taking a bit longer because we have so many people. That’s a wonderful thing. But the folks that have been shooting there a long time want the matches to move along a bit faster. Same probably goes for almost everyone else. We don’t want to monopolize someone’s Saturday as they have other things to do.

So we may cut it down to six stages or five stages. Not sure yet but it’ll help from a time and round count perspective.

As in most matches , safety is the primary concern. What sets this match apart is the diversity of shooters and the joyful attitude. We have folks from about 12 - mid 70's and some excellent shooters as well. Most participants are friendly and will help you with whatever you need if you just ask.
It's a great place to spend 4-5 hours on a Saturday morning and make new friends. I've been a regular at these matches for about 10 years now and still really look forward to them.
COME ON DOWN ! !

When's the next lunch?
Good question. I need to make sure I have it on my calendar or else my work colleagues schedule right over the top of it.

Most of them are on the west coast, so, their 9 or 10 AM is prime time and they 'conveniently forget' I am 3 hours ahead.

Shall we get this sorted out?

I still haven't seen WHERE lunch will be TOMORROW!
Anybody???

Y'all should pick! I can't make it tomorrow...

We're probably past due for some good Mexican food and Compadres (behind Lowe's) is always a big hit.
