So Im looking around about MP5 and UMPs and see there are a lot of OTHER brands that arent HK that make these...and they're still 2 grand.
Whats the deal with these brands (Zenith, Omega) vs HK.

If a person like myself was really wanting a 9mm mp5 or ump style gun, what would be the route to go?
Anyone here have one?

Its a dream gun of mine and I thought I'd ask the experts here

Super fun to shoot. Especially in 10mm!

I can't afford one for a toy, but I would definitely have one if I win the lottery for sure.

i just bought an sp5k, hopefully it will be here friday. i already have the shock wave blade to put on it. if anyone wants to try out before they buy one let me know.

Id love one but the next purchase is a ps90

shock wave blade?

Mind if I ask how much it was, or where you purchased?
As I googled last night I really didnt see where these were for sale anywhere.
I saw some stuff on gunbroker, but thats it.

Are mp5 and ump etc a NFA item because of the stock, like, are they considered SBR?
Honestly, Im trying to figure out why all of this is so dang expensive haha
But Im also very interested in owning one one day, and maybe its something I can splurge on now, thats what I want to find out

Read up on Zenith, as they are the ones I'd want producing my gun. They bought the ACTUAL machines and tooling that HK used to make the MP5 to make their "clones." So what you are buying is essentially an MP5. Even at $2K, they are a pretty solid deal and Brownell's throws them on sale sometimes for like $1600-1700, for certain configurations.

Once my AR9 is done and a few other SBRs are complete, I will turn my attention towards a Zenith. You also have the benefit of buying it as a pistol to shoot and configure while you wait for your form 1.

The only issue I've heard with the zenith is it won't feed hp reliably without additional Smith work.

Not to ruffle any feathers...I went through this same question/thought process..
After much consideration did a left turn, bought a Sig MPX and as it turns out I am VERY happy with it, not that the old roller lock workhorse isn't decent, just Sig got the MPX really right IMO YMMV

I've got a zenith Z5-P and I love that little gun. Coupled with a B&T folding style brace and it fits nicely pretty much anywhere.

It's a lot of coin to shell out, so if anyone in the Charlotte area is considering it and wants to shoot one beforehand let me know. I'm at Blackstone about once a week.

i paid 2100.00 but i bought nib from a fellows collection. since its considered a pistol you attach a "pistol brace" to it.

Cant do it now, but will think about it in the future, keeping it in mind.

As I close out a ton of tabs on my Firefox, Im curious - does anyone sell these in stores/gunshows? Or is it something that would have to be ordered online and shipped to a FFL?
I ask because I never see them anywhere - a big part of that might be because of the entry price and it seems a Stamp is needed too, correct?

I wouldn't bother with an HK clone...... HK or nothing. I think I saw one at Atlas a while back, I know I saw a couple of Kriss guns there, but I swear I saw the pistol version there. I've seen them in stock at Buds too. Pistol version such as the SP5K doesn't need a stamp.... unless you add a stock to it.

I think that if I were going to drop the coin (gosh, I have it,but that is A LOT of money) it'd have a stock.
Either the retractable or the folding.
Just looks awesome to me, that iconic look.

Also, so I got to ask - WHY SO MUCH?
Ok, pistol doesnt need a stamp, but even clones are 2k for it - what is it that makes this style gun so expensive compared to dang near everything else out there.
Few new weapons are that much (without adding stuff to them like optics etc, or being Dan Wesson/custom builder and such), why is this among those select few?

Its an HK, they're just expensive.... parts magazines and all. Why..... I dunno entirely. Mercedes and BMW are expensive too! They tend to make a great product with good attention to detail, but there are really expensive compared to their competition.
From the early 90's or so until 2016?? you couldn't buy a new one in the US. The only MP5's available were the clones or what someone had purchased prior to the early 90's. The inability to purchase a new one drove the prices up.... way up. The HK parts kits were sometimes over 2k (NO RECEIVER!!). Some of the clones (such as what you could get from Atlantic Firearms) were over 2k, and a lot of them had problems... it all depended on the parts and who built it. It sounds crazy, but being able to get a new HK MP5K for a new $2100 is a deal compared to what they were 4 years ago. If CZ didn't come out with the Scorpion I probably would have got one (if I could afford it). With the MPX, Scorpion, Kriss, and now the HK's again it seems like it would have drove the price down more, but I guess it hasn't... HK parts to build a clone with are still expensive.

After checking Atlantic... the prices have came down. I remember the clones being in the 2-2.5K range, they are are cheaper than what they were. I can't speak on the Zenith and Omega clones, but some of the others were hit or miss with reliability.... It seems like the names of the clones change every couple of years.

For a PCC, the MP5 clones are irreplaceable in terms of nostalgia, but with the stamped sheet metal and the price of everything HK, Id have to shoot one along side a CZ and a Sig to see what I liked better. But if I was going to do it, I'd get a Zenith

Any update on this?
And this blade you speak of - did you have to do a tax stamp with that or does it skirt the law like the sig braces?

This gun (sp5k) has become my goal. My goal is by Halloween of 2018.

i did get the sp5k and the shockwave blade was terrible for the sp5k, the line of sight sucked. so i decided to do the atf sbr option. but that will take awhile for everything to come back. they do make sb tactical pistol brace but i decided i am done with the pistol brace thing. you do not need a tax stamp for a brace. but be careful as atf likes to change there mind on pistol braces.

Feesix, couple of questions:
1: From where did you buy? And if you don't mind, what'd you pay?
2: What did you do for your Form 1, trust or individual? If Trust, who did the Trust?

Gun looks great.

I traded into a USC, stripped it down and sold all the pieces I didn’t need, dyed the rest black, and converted to a 16” UMP with a semi auto “fbi” lower. When I was finished I had about $1800 in it. When I got bored with it I sold it in about 30 minutes for $2300. Today, it would probably be worth closer to 4K since they discontinued the USC. IT was a simple design but solid, functioned great, and drew attention. HK mags and parts are overpriced and my experience with that while building that one forever turned me off of HK. HK forum is the best place to learn about anything HK.

I didn't like the UMP it felt cheap when I shot it side by side with the Kriss.

LGS in Wendell had a SP5k in the case for a while, priced right at $2k. Not sure if they sold it or not, but it was there for a long time since most don’t drop $2k on any gun, especially a pistol. I walked by that little guy a dozen times with cash in my pocket and couldn’t bring myself to buy it.

You're better off waiting for Brownell's 10% off and free shipping. You should be able to get one for just north of $1,600.

They currently have them for 2700 bucks, even with 10% youre over 2300

Greensboro Arms and Ammo has a Zenith if anyone wants to look at one. If I had the money it would be mine.
