Yes Sir it is Govt. Issue one....Inland Div. General Motors Sept, 1942

The bayonet is a post WWII M4 Imperial. Plastic handles replaced leather (1954-late 1960's)

Sheath for the bayonet is USM8A1 with metal tip/grommet (1955 and after)

or so I think

Going to have to take some pictures. I am a sucker for them. Almost impossible for me to leave an Army/Navy store without one if they have something I don't already have laying on my bookcase.

Army did away with Bayonet Assault course training in 2010...still do pugils, but no assault courses anymore...bayonets are now something of a novelty..."a more elegant weapon for a more civilized age."

Nothing says civilization quite like ripping someones guts out with "cold hard steel".;)

Here are a few. Correct me if I am wrong on origin. Top to bottom, German Mauser, Romanian, Yugoslavian and a Colt US M8A1

The bottom Colt is a US M7 bayonet for the M16 series, the M8A1 is the nomenclature of the scabbard. The M8A1 scabbard can also be used with the M3 trench knife and M4 (M1 Carbine), M5 (M1 rifle) and M6 (M14 rifle) bayonets.

Thanks, was hoping I would get some good info on the pictures. Really do not know much about the them, just cannot pass them up when I see them. Guy at work was broke and I got that one for 10 bucks.

Here's my Garand bayonet bought 35 years ago for, I think, $10. It has an uncut 10" blade that has the original edge (not sharpened). It was manufactured by Union Fork & Hoe (UFH) in 1943 (matches the Garand year). No rust, dings or edge issues.
