Congratulations on making Master, Joshua!

Thanks guys! Now starts the hard work of teaching my kids to address me as “master” instead of Dad. :D
Anytime I fix something around the house, or take care of some apparently impossible task, it has become a required tradition at my house that my kids or my wife must repeat this phrase to me, "Dad, you are a genius."

I can see "master" being used in your house, with some sort of bowing ritual.

lol-I could get used to that. Not sure I could get my wife in on it though!

@Amp Mangum
Thanks for the videos.

And I have a question for anyone so inclined,
Concerning the BUG division, looking at the gun specs it "appears" that a S&W Shield would be legit to use.
But just to be clear, the height spec that I'm seeing for the shield is 4.6, which is less than 4.625 true,
but I don't know if that 4.6 is with the flush mag or extended mag.
So with the rules stating "with the largest magazine inserted", would the shield with the extended mag in it be legal for BUG division?
Or would I need to use all flush fitting mags?
I'm trying really hard not to make it overly complicated but I'm probably failing...

Thanks

You can shoot a Shield in BUG. Just run what you brung.
We only load five rounds per mag in our matches in "Semi" so the J frame revolvers can compete on a more level playing field.

Cool deal. Thank you

I'm trying to convince my wife and mother-n-law to come to this match. We will not be drawing from a holster but from low ready correct?

Wife "I don't think my mom is ready to shoot a competition."
Me "But she's ready to defend her life in a violent encounter?"
Wife Blank stare....processing..."Ok I'll ask her!"
Me Winning.

We have started drawing from a holster in our BUG matches but if she isn't comfortable doing that for her first match she can start from the low ready position.

That's funny!

Kinda same thing here only it's me telling myself I need to be a better shooter before trying a match.
Then I had the "Aha" moment.
Maybe, just maybe, if I try it and like it, and continue to do it, I might become a better shooter!

Question about BUGs. Is the Glock 26 still legal? Do the ESP rules apply to it like CCP?
8.2.8 Semi-Automatic BUG (BUG-S) Handguns permitted for use in BUG-S must:

  1. Be semi-automatic.

  2. Be single action, double action, double action only, or striker fired.

  3. Use .380 ACP or larger cartridges.

  4. Barrel length of 3 1/2" or less. 3.42

  5. The unloaded firearm with the heaviest magazine must weigh 26 oz. or less. 26.1 oz. fully loaded, but this is 10 rounds (or 10 plus 1?). BUG is 6 (or 5 at H20)

  6. The firearm with the largest magazine inserted must fit in the IDPA gun test box measuring 6 1/2" 6.41 x 4 5/8"4.17 x 1 3/8" 1.18.
Joshua, I inserted the specs from Glock's page here in red. Looks like the G26 is still fine for BUG.

Someone else will have to answer the question about ESP in CCP.

8.2.8.2 BUG-S Permitted Features and Modifications Semi-automatic BUG must comply with all ESP features and modifications, and equipment restrictions.

Thanks guys! Sorry @fieldgrade - was hoping someone just knew off the top of their head. Didn't mean to give you homework :)
I did a whole chart last year when the rules were changing on 6-7 popular BUG guns. It's what I do, lol.

What if you don't have a gun that fits in the box? I can buy one but I won't have any time in it. I was hoping to trade the 34 for one but it looks like I'm gonna have to buy one

For you, and ONLY for you, if you can't find something to shoot I'll loan you my G43, and have everything you need. You just bring some decent 9mm ammo. And I'll shoot my wee little 10oz. Kahr 380, just to embarrass the guys with bigger guns.

Just let me know.

The guy I'm going with offered me his wife's 43 but I don't really want to borrow stuff,, I have a way of breaking things.
I have a line on a 9mm shield that's cheap., under 3. I can pick up a couple extra mags and a cheap holster and be GTG for less than 4. I think I can work one range trip in by the weekend. If I don't make it to the range at least once, I'll shoot in the other thing Amp talked about.

Can you draw from an appendix holster?

For a match, I don't think a Safety Officer, Match Director, Range Master, or Range Owner would be at all comfortable with it.

Ken Hackathorn related a story to us in the 2.5 day advanced handgun class a few weeks ago about how he forbid it while training experienced LEO who said they carried that way.

If you "sweep yourself", meaning point a gun anywhere at yourself, even if only momentarily sweeping your leg or arm, you can be "DQed" from a match. Disqualified.

Just asking so don't cuss me, I'm not one for appendix carry anyway but how is this different from a IWB at 4:00? I understand while in the sitting position but upright I don't see much difference .
Me, personally would never carry that what. I already have to much stuff packed in the front of my pants.

Holsters must be positioned on the belt so that the center of the trigger pad is behind the centerline of the body.

Can't you pocket carry for our style BUG matches? I might be getting some of Ken's training videos confused with our rules.

I think I'm gonna run the 5x5 classifier this week with a BUG gun.
THAT should be interesting.

Set that up as one of the stages? That would be sweet. I ran it two weeks ago and missed master by .50. Would be interesting to see how I did with a Shield. Speaking of...I have a TLR6 on it. Will I need to remove that to shoot the match?

I was just gonna run myself in a classifier using a G43.
25 rounds would be too much for one stage at a match.
I think you'll need to remove the light to shoot for score.

Edit: Only duty weapons can have a weapon mounted light, and it can't be activated during a match. We even use handhelds for the night matches.

I've been doing some thinking,,, Being I have never shot a match or shot the gun I'll be using I'm figuring to only finish 2nd or better. I'm guessing that will pay about 2-3k?
Im also not a good shot anyway but I'm figuring I'll be like John Wick Saturday

Evidently, drawing and dry firing your new gun will be more useful than thinking. [emoji3]

Lol,, I'm just trying to get through the first one with no hiccups or a DQ,,Hinestly don't care about time/points. I have about 200 dry fire rds so far. Ive put everyone through the same hole:cool:. The Sheild and I are really accurate without real bullets.
