The above pictured car (white Chevy Sonic) is the scumbag who rear ended and probably totaled my car (being driven by my wife with my 4 year old in the back) this morning around 7am in Lexington on Sunset Blvd/Hwy 378 eastbound near Golden Hills and NBSC bank.

As my wife was checking on my terrified and crying son, he backs up, cuts a U-turn (after flattening his airbags...they’re visible on the dash in the photo) and flees the scene. He went north down Old Cherokee, to North Lake and then up Pilgrim Church Rd. The next witness saw him getting on I-20 east about 7:25am at Longs Pond Road.

If you see this car around town, or anyone you know sees this car, please PM me here (with Tag # if possible) or call the Town of Lexington PD directly.

Thank you

Sharing it publicly on Facebook is helping; gotten several messages from people who’ve seen it along with where and if they see it again they’ll get the tags. All three people have been amazed it was still being driven

Hopefully we get this guy soon

Can you text me that pic? I family and friends (honest) in and around the area.

Did you just assume this fender bender's gender?

Well, I'll assume it's one of two biological genders, and no more.

No cis-, no non-binary, no trans-, no gender-fluid. Either there are twig and berries or there ain't.

If the driver ends up not having twig and berries, I'll issue a redaction.

;)

I'll probably, never in my life, be able to use that again. I just had to.

:D

Since the police didn’t really have any information, I took that picture I posted in the original message and took to Facebook. I shared the picture publicly along with the details of the accident. I asked my friends in the area to share it, and if they happen to see the guy, to let me know. Over the next couple hours, people who saw the car messaged me saying where and when they saw it. It got almost a hundred shares in a couple hours, which was enough

Eventually, I had somebody message me who had actually gotten pictures and video of the car and tag, because the guy passed him on the interstate (!!!) With that amount of damage on his car, he was in the fast lane on the interstate of all places.

So, I’ve sent the info and all the pictures/video to the cops. The ball is in their court. Hopefully they get some results

Presumably, it would take man to do such a scumbag thing. ;)

This is an interesting exercise in using social media. The DoD did some similar research with the Red Balloon project a couple of years back.

He missed court in January so he has a warrant out on him from that. Driving under Suspension with DUI 2nd Offense.

The deputies found the car also, he had hammered the hood flat and zip tied the bumper about a thousand times.

So I am assuming they found him and arrested him? Nice. Any word on insurance? I am going to assume that he probably didn't have any.

Well, that explains why he ran. Guy like that doesn't need to be on the road. Hope the family is OK and you get some sort of compensation for damages, although that might not be likely. I figure the guy is going to be a moped guy from this point on.

The amount of damage determined the felony I think.

They couldn’t impound the car, and he wasn’t present. Evidence is still circumstantial for legal proceedings despite it being blatantly obvious he did it

My wife is probably going to have to ID him in a line up for them to get a warrant for the car, his cell phone, etc

Honestly, if his insurance pays for it I’ll be happy because I doubt he’s going to get arrested for this.

Sadly fixed for you. Dollars to donuts he was driving without it, sorry to say.

The car is insured since there were payments on it. Worst case scenario my insurance can sue the car owner as he’s responsible even if the cops can’t prove he was driving. Even though he was

I hope so. My daughter has been involved in four accidents in her short driving history. Only one was her fault but our insurance ended up having to cover three of the four incidents.

Hope y'all find and nail the POS responsible. Glad your family is ok.

If we all have insurance because we worry about losing everything should we be culpable in an accident; how is it that people without insurance seem to walk away without really paying and your insurance has to pay?

Because "we" aren't "losers".

If "we" go without insurance and get caught, ultimately we and our families suffer because when "we" get caught and arrested, it affects us, our employability, our income, and ultimately our families. Because we're what they call "responsible" and we do our d*mnedest to act like it.

When "they" get caught, being "losers" who don't give a rat's *ss, they really don't have much to lose in the first place. Can't get juice from a stone.
