Amazon, Starbucks not digging Seattle 'head tax'

Seattle is willing to tax literally anything. Amazon HQ2 will become the only Amazon HQ within 10 years of being built.

The Associated Press reports that the Seattle region had the third-highest number of homeless people in the U.S., despite the city spending $68 million on combating homelessness last year.

Maybe, just maybe there is a correlation.

This country is so screwed up.
We continue to let people in this country that are of no benefit at all, we continue to send gobs of money overseas and we continue to make it harder on working Americans and businesses.

Destroying what little we seem to have left.

Well at least it is not a tax to support a for profit sports team. I will not live in such a city/county and pay a tax to support a bunch of millionaires playing a effing ball game.

One of the main things I learned in business, is that if you "give it away" the recipients very quickly learn that it has no value, and giving people shelter will quickly teach them it has no value and they will simply demand it.

I've been following this on the news. It sounds like an awesome way to drive off business while not doing anything for homelessness in a real long term solution way.

Even Rahm Emmanuel gave up on doing this very thing because of how much it hurts business. Seattle tried this before and gave it up because of the recession.

Forcing people to pay for things they don't want to is a good way to turn liberals into conservatives....

Edited to add, I am all for affordable housing. But there are other models of sustainability for affordable housing that work well. This ain't one.

Seattle should move to Kommifornia.

I'm glad these idiots have finally gotten tired of this BS. City's must be held accountable for spending . Don't fund sports teams and stop building museums that no one goes to. Millionaires dupe the taxpayers of millions every year that the liberals are willing to give them.

A good way to anger the population over this would be to pass the tax onto them via their pay checks.

Lemme try fixing that headline.....

The Associated Press reports that the Seattle region had the third-highest number of homeless people in the U.S., BECAUSE the city spent $68 million on ENABLING homelessness last year.

Economics Lesson of the day:
When you subsidize something, you get more of it. (homelessness)
The corollary
When you tax/penalize something, you get less of it. (jobs)

So a huge company like Amazon come in, create hundreds...thousands of jobs, and you penalize them?
Smart...

I'd think Amazon would be all for this. They already give a big discount for Amazon prime to anyone eligible for EBT.
I cancelled my membership when I found out. I'm done with them.
