Yanny or Laurel???

I hear laurel, even with my hearing aids. But when playback is slowed down by 30%, as they did this morning on the Two Guys Named Chris show, I can hear yanni. So I think it has to do with your ability to hear higher frequencies.

It's just a publicity stunt so he can sell more tickets.

It has to do with how you hear the pitch. There are two words superimposed and your brain can only process one. Change the pitch and you'll hear one or the other. Further down in the article are some links that do this.

As it was played originally, I hear yanni.

No to get interesting, in my left ear, I have poor high frequency hearing. Using ear buds, I hear yanni in my right ear and laurel in my left.

This morning...same half deaf guy (me, left ear practically no hearing).
Bedroom TV speakers: Yanny
Family room TV on house sound system: Laurel

I realized after reading this thread that I can hear laurel in the background. It is very deep and faint and the yanny overpowers it for sure, but it is there.

Yanni

A kid asked some of us today in the hall

Funny. First I heard about it was on the news. On the radio, it was "Yanny." Couldn't hear Laurel at all. On my phone, when I googled it, it was "Laurel."

listening to the replay of 2GNC and they were playing it, and like a poster above - at one speed I heard Laurel. But other speeds was yanni or whatever.
Odd stuff.

Actually, I attended one of his early concerts and it was great. He had some of the best talent of the time with him and they each got their own mini sessions. :D

I only hear "yanni" no matter what frequency or pitch they shifted it to. I do have partial hearing loss from music, guns, and fireworks. I cannot understand normal conversation if there is any background noise, but I can hear high pressure leaks from a gas cylinder or a non-properly sealed soda. o_O

So, this is a computer generated sound, word or text to voice. I'm curious on what combination of characters produces this sound.

Was it stumbled upon in a conversion while doing text to voice? Or, just a sound found while playing "what happens"?

You know, things that keep you up at 4am...

I heard yesterday that it was an opera singer who was hired to record the words

My 1st thought, "this is stupid" & I heard yammi via computer speakers.
Getting gas yesterday I clearly heard laural & couldn't hear yammi. via 'gas pump news'.
I wonder if the tone makes the difference.
