What did you do in the reloading room today?

Clear off enough to work and reload. anytime the wife cleans whatever I have in the rest of the house ends up on my bench in MY ROOM

:eek:Any time my wife cleans whatever I have in the rest of the house, it ends up in me searching for days. I think she kinda likes that.

Cleaned a couple of guns, and sorted brass from our range trip last night. Mrs Toprudder had her birthday, so she wanted her free rental of a full-auto at TSA. She picked the Thompson. (She has a thing about 45acp). I had my brass catcher setup, and caught about 90% of the brass from the Thompson. :D It was all Blazer, but large primer. I don't know where TSA is getting their ammo, but this has to be old stock as Blazer has not made large primer 45 in several years as far as I know.

Wet Tumbled 1,000 pcs of once fired, .40 S&W brass. Out to the range today, then back home to run them through a pass-through sizing die, just to be sure none of them are "glocked", then the party really gets started.

Woo-hoo.

OK, so the wife and youngest are at a baseball tournament all weekend. The house is mine and now I can reload in comfort and style and don't have to wait until I get back from the range.

I highly recommend building a portable press stand. Made this one a couple of years ago from an oak stair tread and it has been incredibly useful. It goes to the range to play with seating depth, it moves around the shop easily, and best of all, it can go into the kitchen or living room (when the coast is clear).

LIfe is good.

Cast and coated 800 or so 133s.
Loaded a couple hundred of them.
Need to clean brass lest I have to shoot the 147s I have loaded this weekend.
I noticed there's something in the tumbler the other day, could get lucky...

ETA: nope 45 :(

While home on leave, put insulation and paneling up inside my workshop.

The opportunity to "remodel" your loading room is one of the great times in life. Everyone should have it 2 - 3 times in their lives so that you can set things up to your work flow, preferences, and convenience. That said, it usually comes with a terribly high price tag, like moving. It would be fun if it was just the reloading stuff and you could just burn the rest and start over.

It looks like you have added a little more bench space.

Looks good. I started out reloading in a spare bedroom, but ended up buying a pre-fab 12x20 building. It was bare on the inside, like yours. I wired and insulated it myself, and I went a little overboard on the insulation. I have it so that an oil-filled electric radiator, on the low (600w) setting, can keep it about 35 degrees above ambient in the winter, and a 6k btu window air conditioner can keep it comfortable in the summer. I keep it climate controlled 24/7 so that I don't have to worry about humidity or temp swings.

Oh, and there is a fridge with refreshments, and a TV and recliner. :D

Tried to set up a spare Lee turret head for .300BLK but discovered that I need the standard/short rifle charging die.

I ordered the long rifle die, tried my 9mm pistol die, and tried swapping internals around before googling and quickly learning that I need a new die. No big deal, $12.

Yep same here. Just ordered the short die (they make a 2 die set...) and the universal flare die (for cast pills)

Loaded up 50 rounds of 9x18 for my P64. Starting to like that little pistol the more I shoot it.

Im using TAC as well with them 25.3gr, 2769fps out of a 14.5'' barrel

That was my first choice but he has 8lb of TAC and 18lb of IMR, sooo for the sake of free powder for a long time, we went with the IMR at 24.6gr. Those cases are damn near spilling over at 25.0!

Got my .300BLK spare turret setup and loaded a handful of 147gr w/ H110 however my autodrum is leaking like crazy! I may switch to the auto disk for this one.
It didn't leak with titegroup but H110 is much finer.

Couple of nights ago, I loaded up some Starline 223 brass test loads. I know I get the "Varget Crunch" (compressed load) when I load my typical rounds using LC brass, but I noticed right away that the case volume was less with the Starline. The Starlines are ~ 100gn each, the LC and PMC are about 92-93gn each. So, I shifted the test charges down a little. Even so, I was getting a ring around the ogive when seating.

I then decided to finally work up some test loads using 8208XBR, with Hornady 75bthp bullets.

Last night I decided to clean the AR I have been using for load development (20" 1:8 Wylde) as I believe the groupings have opened up a little. I figure I've put about 300-400 rounds through it since the last time I used any copper remover. While I was waiting for the copper remover to work, I went ahead and primed the rest of the Starline brass, using Federal GM205MAR primers.

I did a little electrical work. This is a 220v European RCBS pot so had to replace the plug. Then added appropriate pigtails to the PID. Haven’t decided how to best mount the temp probe, so for know it’s being held by a hard drive platter and a couple magnets.

Now if I just had a clue about what I’m about to do!

Would be nice to post pics, something isn’t working.

I find it interesting that in 5.56, the FC brass requires little or no trimming (many are shorter than the trim-to length) while the LC brass need lots of trimming. In 7.62, it is reversed, the LC needs little trimming while many of the FC require lots of trimming.

And then there is the Perfecta. Lots of off-center flash holes in 5.56, but in 7.62 they are all centered. At least in the batches I have seen.

I know I’m behind on the age of this post.

I’ve been neglecting this thread nearly as much as the reloading room lol

Anyway. I agree with all of this.

All my FC brass (all range pickup btw) which I discovered I had a ton of and separated out to fill a coffee can is IMPRESSIVLY consistent at (I recall without my notes) .005-.010 under max length. All my LC pick up is .010-.025 over. No opinion on the 7.62 as I have none.

Same conclusions/experiences here on Perfecta including .308. Their factory ammo I once triedcouldn’t even hit a 24”x24” target at 110yds for me. Then find they have super off center flash holes to boot.... Even if the decapper gets in the hole, the constant pressure and flex weakens then breaks the pin. I have a 12x12x4 box of this stuff I culled. I have also ended up culling GFL (fiocchi) from my brass as it’s very thin walled and have seen enough offf center flashover to “nope” that head stamp....

Hell, if somebody wants to try it I have mucho perfecta and gfl headstamped .223 brass for super cheap:cool:

Super cheap you say?

I’m thinking about cutting some down and using it to swage bullets for the 38/357, and I think for that cheap is the ticket.

Shoot me a PM if you’re interested.

Since I can't reload down range and don't shoot as much as I want. Lately been getting some ammo to demil. Get to pull the bullets and pour the powder on the tomato plants. :D

Went shooting this past weekend, and depleted my stash of loaded 44mag, so I did a couple of runs, one with H-110 powder and another with 300-MP, both with Zero 240 JSP bullets. The H-110 works great in the handguns, and the 300-MP is outstanding in the 20" carbine.
