Looking for recommendations for storage ideas for handguns inside the safe. Items you like and those to stay away from as well. Ways to maximize room while still allowing access. Thanks.

I'm in need also .Will be watching this one .

I use these. They hold 8 pistols and keeps them off the shelf. They used to be cheaper. IIRC I paid like $4 a piece.

I also use these to hang more off the shelf. They can

I have a few smaller versions of the one above. That way I can put one or two pistols on a shelf and use the space for other things if need be.

I have the rack thing that I use at the range. It works good there. The way I have my shelves arranged it's not real practical in my safe, but if you got the room it would work fine.
This is with a G41 and an LCP so you can kind of get an idea how stuff fits in it.

The hanging rod things I use in the safe. Like a microwave you hang under a cabinet they do open up shelf space. They'll support most guns, but don't like real heavy stuff like a Judge. And you kind of have to guide the rod into the barrel, which if the safe is dark it's one of those 'use the force Luke' kind of things. But they work ok.

One thing with the hanging rods. They like a thick shelf to hang from. That's 3/4" plywood in my pic. If you have thin shelves the rods slip and move around if you bump them or whatever. And my shelf just about comes all the way out to the door, so long barreled stuff will stick out too far and hit the door when you close it.

ETA; For rifles, you'll see those rifle rods. The concept is good but I think they're too flimsy, and they're expensive to boot.

I have always worried about moisture in the closed cell foam. I have seen to many pistols rust when left is pistol boxes which have the foam. Have you had any issues with moisture retention and humidity levels?

Hi, this foam is used for packaging computers and other electronics, I get it at work before it goes to the trashbin,
closed cell so no moisture to get inside. The foam in standard pistol cases is open cell.
Have not had any problems, I have a digital temp and humidity sensor inside the safe, $9 at walmart.

Am I too paranoid about using the racks that stick a rod into the barrel? To me it just seems wrong. Do I need tougher guns since mine are too sensitive for that rough treatment?
They got the rubber coating. So the penetration is still there but they're wearing rubbers for safe barrel-ing.

You might just need to buy bigger calibers so the rod is actually smaller than the bore. :D

I use Acorn holsters you can get on Amazon. Velcro backed and stick to the door.

I just took a 1x4 piece of wood and cut U shaped notches about an inch and a half deep, just wide enough to hold the barrel ...I sanded the notches and then painted it black. It holds about 12 revolvers. I have the wood to cut several more to hold more revolvers and two more shelves to hold the jamma- matics

I have these same ones. They were surprisingly sturdy when I got them. At the price point, I was skeptical about it, ordered one, and then ordered two more once I handled that first one. Metal is coated to prevent marring the finish. All in all a decent little product for just a few bucks.
Oh, yeah...works just fine, too. Gotta pay attention putting smaller guns like a S&W 442, Ruger SR22, PK380, etc because they are almost too short to fit in there. Hooking the front sight across the rear of the rack keeps them in place though.

What I really need is a magazine storage solution. Buy a gun, then buy an extra mag or two or five, and end up with this bs in the corner of a shelf and can't find squat lol.

@draco88 Here's my magazine solution. You can buy packs of magnets at HF for a couple bucks or less. Or, if you're as tight as I am, you can buy something and get their magnetic tool holder that's occasionally free with purchase, take it apart and have a bunch of the same magnets free. Either way, I wrap the magnets with duct tape to avoid scratching the magazines. :)

You do realize there's like a hundred magazines up there, right? Thats a lot of magnets lmao

Although, that magnetic strip isn't a bad idea at all. Figure out a mounting method and put several strips on the back of the door. Could work...

Magazine storage, mine is also a disaster.

I find the pocket stuff on the inside of the door to be useless. Maybe take it off and put up a board with 1/2 ā€œ wide shelves and some bungee cords to hold pistol mags upright? While Iā€™m at it Iā€™d rather have a few pegs or hooks for guns than the Velcro holster things.

Gonna go measure and draw.

Magnetic means it will stick to the door (unless the door is cardboard). ;)
When they're not giving them away, they're $4 with the 20% coupon.

I've got two of these so far. I'll be adding more. My other one has way more mags (m&p and glock - they just seem to multiply).

Not cardboard, but not magnetic, either. I dont particularly want to go drilling holes through my fire protection.

You could buy some strips of Velcro (ā€œmaleā€ side with sticky backing), put the magnets on the Velcro and stick the Velcro to the door fabric. Hang your mags...no drilling needed.
