NORFOLK — The Navy Uniform Review Board announced they would go an unprecedented six months before making sailors buy a new set of uniforms, sources confirmed today.

“After careful review, we’ve decided to find other ways to anger our sailors,” Admiral Joseph Davies said after the announcement. “But after six months we will be sure to design another dozen sets of uniforms. Changing uniforms as much as possible is in keeping with the highest traditions of the Naval service.”

Davies began drafting plans for a new uniform the moment he left the podium. This was a change from policy, which states a new uniform must be designed by the time sailors start buying the latest new uniform.

Recent uniform changes include the Naval Working Uniform, a ocean camouflage pattern designed to work in all ocean environments, and the Ocean Uniform, designed to work where the NWU pattern doesn’t work. SEALs and other special operations units were given a specific desert pattern, which kept their identities secret by making them stick out like sore thumbs. Other new uniforms include the Service Uniform and the official PT uniform, which were designed to look as stupid as possible.

Finally, the newest uniform change comes with the new coveralls, which are exactly the same as the old ones.

“I think the new uniforms are great,” said John Waters, CEO of the uniform company that makes millions whenever the Navy changes uniforms. “However, we’re working on an even better set of uniforms that the review board will love after we give them half a million dollars.”

“I can’t believe it,” Seaman Apprentice Lucy Sandberg said. “I don’t want to wait six months, I want new uniforms. I joined the Navy so I could spend my entire paycheck on new uniforms, and then get a pittance reimbursement from the Navy. I’m the fourth generation of my family to join the Navy. I’m working on getting pictures of everyone in my family who served in the Navy, and I don’t want a single one of us to be wearing the same thing.”

I liked the cracker jacks. When I was a corpsman the only Navy uniform I wore were the whites/blues crackerjacks (depending on season); the rest of the time I was in cammies or Charlies. Dungarees, Johnny Cash's, pea coat, all of that stuff stayed in a sea bag.

For those who didn't catch it, this is a Duffleblog article.

As usual, they're spot on with their sarcasm.

The Navy is a bit out of hand with respect to the uniform changes, in my opinion. Apparently, the Army and Air Force have been trying to give the Navy a run for their money in uniform changes.

Marines? Seems like they would rather spend their money trying to figure out how to better eff up the enemy's stuff rather than their uniforms. Bravo-effin'-Zulu, Marines!

That's great!! I hated keeping up with the sea bag, especially when I got my commission and had to pay for all of those uniforms out of pocket.
I was enlisted USAF. We always had to pay for our own uniforms out of pocket. Only those working the inherently dirty jobs got any sort of allowance. In 4 years there was not a single change that was vigorously enforced. They had a stupid change that required the back crease on the leg be 7/8" longer than the front. Nobody I knew paid any tailor to have that done. Nobody ever got measured either.
All the cammo crap came later. Mine were the OD fatigues. Never wore blues after basic.

@fishgutzy , the Navy was pretty good about its enlisted sea bag. Now, if you screwed up a uniform item and it 'wasn't time' for replacement, you were SOL and had to buy it yourself, or if you wanted extras you had to buy them (I bought an extra set of dress whites because they would get dirty fast).

Yes, the Navy was off the charts with uniform changes. It was crazy. God forbid you had to spring for dress mess, sword, all that high-end bling.

Alas I digress BUT since this was a "nautical " related post involving uniforms , could someone possibly explain the concept behind the navy multi-colored BLUE digital pattern utilities ?
I just can't wrap my mellon around WHY the Navy thought this was a good idea.
This pattern blends with absolutely nothing (natural) known to man EXCEPT the OCEAN!
Call me old-fashioned but if I was unlucky enough to fall overboard at sea ....the last thing I would want is to "blend" into my background....

As I posted earlier it was a cost effective way to render man overboard drills moot.

At least the Navy's Blue Digital looked cool, better then the Army's ACU pajama's. Only thing those things blended in was crushed rock in the FOBs!

CD

When I was an individual augmentee I was issued the ACU. Stupidest cammo uniform ever, and just ugly. The AF's faux tiger stripes were cooler.

Current news is that USAF will be phasing out the sage green tiger stripes and adopting the army present
Multi-Cam.

Yes, like this....

It's like they're trying to make everyone look like a ground pounder! I was a sailor damnit! Sailors should look like sailors.

Terry

I'm pretty sure the Navy isn't going to issue you a bottle of booze and a pair of doxies....

I thought the water camouflage was a wonderful idea, it saved all that finding folks who fell overboard.
My niece's boyfriend jumped over board in the middle of the Arabian Sea wearing that uniform after 3 other sailors threatened to whip his ass! The CPT was NOT amused! Do you know how long it takes to stop a ship and commence rescue ops!? Can you say CPT's Mast!?

I'm guessing a bit longer than a pee break at the gas station.

Here's the issue I have with all this combat battle uniform BS from someone who has spent most of the last two decades down range. Services should have their own distinguished dress uniforms or duty uniforms in CONUS. However the field uniform needs to be the same! Hard to tell the difference when your clearing a area in hostile environment and you have USA, USAF, USN, Marines and USCG along with host/allied nations and you have 12 different uniforms being worn! Good thing we're fighting insurgents that don't wear a complete uniform. Its a mess honestly. I miss the days when everyone's combat uniform was either BDUs or DCUs.

still in Astan

A big reason why I miss the BDU days. It's what everyone had. Not that I have an issue with MARPAT, the army wanted it, but the Marines put a patent on it so no one else would get it. Of course, CADPAT and the Navy's newest NWU look almost identical, same as MC/UCP(?). I would be fine with BDUs/DCUs again.
