bought an old used one, looks good but it has a rusty looking seepage around the nut and washer at the bottom of the lube tube. Any thoughts on taking it apart to see what’s up.

I sent an email to a friend in Texas that may have info.
I'll report back when I hear from Earl.

Thanks, got a note from someone that said there is a hole under there for burping out air. I put an 18” long wrench on it and it doesn’t want to move, not sure if it is a corrosion issue or if it is locked on in some way. Anything Earl can share will be appreciated!

JimB,
Here is Earl's reply, hope it helps.
Ron

Hi Ron,
I have a Saeco Lubrasizer (copy of the Star) that is auto feed. It is set up for .40SW. Also have the pneumatic / regulated wax feed device (not on the sizer right now) and have the sizer mounted on old Lyman aluminum plate heater. Picture of mine below. There is a vent hole on the back, about half way down the large black lube reservoir, but your guy states that his leaks down at the bottom thread connection. Though I have at one time or another overheated, over pressured, jammed the feed mechanism and generally abused the machine from letting it sit. I have never had to break apart the reservoir. This is a simple, yet awesome device, that requires initial fine tuning, but after that there is no rocket science as to how it is built.

Everyone who has one of these has probably made the same mistakes as I have and my bet is that there is wax one the outside of the reservoir where it fits into the casting in every place possible. Even though it is just wax lube, there is enough tight surface area that the was will hold fast - when cold. My bet is to dig out your trusty electric heat gun, and after warming everything up it will turn freely.
As to stopping the leak... The over fill port will squirt melted wax in whatever direction it is pointed. I would probably just warm and clean the threads male and female and then put a SMALL amount of hardening pipe dope only on the male threads to reassemble. If you put dope on the female socket the male part will push the dope down into your machine (and stop it up).

While doing that Nuclear job with you in Charlotte, I was away from home and didn't have anything to do in the evenings, so I bought lead, cast bullets and sized them by the thousands. ALMOST as much guy therapy as shooting for me.

A short time later at a pistol match here in Texas, I was at the safe area changing the recoil spring in my pistol when a friend handed me his 1911 barrel and told me to take a look at the bore. I did and stated that it was exceptionally clean and he said remember that...
After a 100 round match he waited for me and pulled his barrel for me to look at again. Other than a few tiny particles of ash (that blew out), it was just as clean as before the match. I simply did not believe it, so he ran a clean patch through it that came out clean.

Monday, the next day, I called Jerry Meculek's brother "Donnie" at Bayou Bullets (www.bayoubullets.com) and ordered 10,000 polymer coated .40cal bullets (along with a few thousand .45. 9mm and .38) and searched online until I found two 8# bottles of Vitavouri N-320 powder. I mentioned Jerry first as he is famous as one of the fastest pistol shooters in the world. He has some great youtube videos.

I have not lubed another bullet since. I generally don't sell things and plan to keep the lube/sizer for odd runs of bullets.
Take care,
Earl Beverly

Thanks for that info. I also shoot mostly coated bullets, am just starting to play with casting and swaging.

Its going to seep some. Mine always has.
I use hard lube and a heater so it is not going to leak when the heater is off. If you are using room temp lube then it is going to be soft at room temp. With the heat we have had for the last couple of months if you have not had it in an AC area room temp soft is going to liquid.
That photo does not look bad at all to me.
