Anyone else own a 512 or 513? Took my 512 to the range this morning, and it would not go bang. Last time I used it it was perfect as usual. Everything appears to be in order. My first thought is that when I cleaned it last time I re-assembled the bolt wrong. But it fits, cycles and clicks whne the trigger is pulled so not really sure. Maybe a bad firing pin? It might be a few days before I get a chance to tear it down so hoping someone here has some insights or hints. My gunsmithing skills are not strong.

The good news is my 452 still shoots well. :D

Welllllll...it is in your name lmao

Wish I could actually help

I'll take it apart when I get a chance next week and make sure I reassembled everything correctly. If that isn't the problem I'll call CZ and ask their opinion I guess. Most likely it is me. :(

Thats generally my troubleshooting method too :)

I thought about buying one a while back but when I picked one up I decided I didn't like the way it felt.

Mine is about the second generation. So the stock and sights for shooting irons. Not an American version. Not the most beautiful gun in the world, but I had another CZ 22lr and the magazines all fit both so I went for it. I have a Leupold 3-9x33 EFR on it right now. It shoots amazing IMO. With cheap ammo at 50 yards I can basically make tiny clover groups. The trigger is ok, but not a bench rest pull. Don't think I could blame bad shots on the trigger. And it has been perfect until the other day. So I am assuming I screwed something up when cleaning and reassembling the bolt. I didn't shoot it for a while and it is a bit of a funky set up. When the new Tikka shows up I am going to put the Leupold on that so this may become my iron sight gun.

I have one of these and I think it’s a hoot. Been awhile since I shot it and I don’t remember the reassembly procedure. Sorry! Good luck!

Think I identified the problem. Maybe. It looked like there was some gunk built up around the firing pin. Can't remember last time I shot it. So I soaked the bolt in some Kroil penetrating oil for a while and cleaned up everything I could. Lubed it up again and put it back together. Couldn't see anything else that might be the problem. So I'll just take it out and try again on my next range trip. If it doesn't work I'll give CZ a call I guess.

You could try posting your problems on Rimfirecentral.com in the CZ forums .
The most informative and helpful site you'll find anywhere on the net concerning all things CZ.
I can almost garantee someone will be able to help or point you in the right direction. Great folks and very knowledgeable ...Best of luck getting your prob resolved.

BTW
I'm also a CZ fanati (own 4) :cool:If you should ever consider selling that Leupold 3-9 x 33 EFR I'd like first dibs!

That scope is going nowhere! IF the new Tikka T1X ever shows up it will likely go on that. I'm going to try and shoot the 512 this weekend and see how it goes. I think it was just gummed up from a poor cleaning on my part and disuse.

Sucks to be me. Started another thread pertaining to my lever action shooting today. It was fun, but I got issues.
Kinda sucks to be me, too...got a new to me P01 today. It was set up for a lefty and while I was changing the mag release back over, an accident with a tube of blue loctite caused me some issues.
The trigger bar return spring screw was already out and I had to take the mag release back out along with the trigger bar return spring and the mag release spring.
I just spent an hour and some change with qtips, fingernail polish remover, 1000 grit sandpaper, and a dental pick tryin to get that mess out.
It works fine...now lol

Fun, but at least you have it working. Go check out the CZ tj45 just listed. I hate him!

The only reason to disassemble a bolt is if there is a problem or it has been over 25 yrs.
If you oil the barrel before storing butt down, that could be the problem
The SECOND thing they taught us in Gunsmith School was to store guns butt UP, so any oils cannot ooze back into the bolt/trigger/other works...and gum it up...it drains out the muzzle into the rags put there to absorb it.
Look at many folks guns and you can see the oil darkened area behind the receiver. This wood is now softer and crushes wood fibers every shot weakening the area just ahead of the wrist.

As suggested, the czownersforum and the other 1 at greybeards would be best places to ask.

What was the FIRST thing taught in Gunsmith School?...…...the vise is your friend.

Well the 512 did not go bang today. Guess I am calling CZ on Monday. I have no clue what is going on with it. :(

What did CZ say about your problem. I've had some very good shooting CZ's but never a 512. Hope it's nothing serious because a local shot has one I've been drooling over for a couple weeks, and almost bought a couple days ago.

They told me to send it in. They really didn't offer any suggestions. I asked about disassembling the bolt and clesning the firing pin, and they didn't recommend that. They pretty much didn't want to suggest anything or habe me do anything. I'm going to put the bolt through a parts washer, lube it up and try again. Everything else seems ok so I'm hoping this solves the issue. It has been a great gun so far.

I guess that makes sense from their end. Liability issues and all that stuff if they tell you to do something and it does wrong. Please let us know how it goes.

Took the bolt out and ran it through a friend's parts washer today. Dried, cleaned andlubd it up good. Put a snap cap in and the firing pinnis now leaving strike marks on the snap cap. Everything appears to be working. There was likely just a bunch of crud in the channel with the firing pin. I'll get it out and live fire to make sure, but I am confident all is well now. Guess every year or two I should just run it through parts washer as regular maintenance. I suppose 3 or 4 years worth of crud can bind it up a little.

Took the 512 out today and it made holes in paper! :D

Shot fine. Just needed a good cleaning after some years of the cheapest crappy ammo I can find going through it. I will try to run the bolt through a parts washer every year or so now and make sure it gets as deep a clean as I am able.
