Let's play some golf!

Standard CFF Monthly Rimfire Benchrest Challenge Rules
- Target Size: Standard 8 1/2 x 11 paper - Choose the "Print to fit" option when printing.
- Target distance: 50 yards
- Any shooting position you'd like
- Front rests, bipods, front/rear shooting bags, bunny ears, ... etc. are all ok.
- No full length rifle mechanical rail/sled type rests allowed
- Iron sights or optics of your choice are all allowed
- All done on the honor system. Shoot it, score it, post it.
- Winner chooses the target and challenge for the next month.
- Post copy of your target, setup, where shot, and score

Scoring:
- This is our own little golf course so you have 18 holes (two holes per green), lowest score wins. Best possible score is -18
- 1 shot per hole for a total of 18 shots (A hole is considered the small circle with a -1 in it)
- Par = 0 points
- Best (lowest point) area broken is your score. Breaking any part of the lowest score ring gets the lower value. If you break a -1 line you get -1 points.
- Area off of the greens are +3
- Tie breaker 1 - Number of Birdies (number of -1 shots)
- Tie Breaker 2 - If there is an equal number of tie breaker birdies then it goes to the Lowest price of ammo used. Do we have a forum supporter's site we could use for this pricing? If not, maybe we could use Outdoor Limited. They are a NC dealer with a selection of almost anything (even if not in stock).

Found a sample of one of these greens on a website, and decided to make a course. PDF file is uploaded here.

Let the games begin and good luck ladies and gentlemen!

I didn't take into account missing the green entirely. I guess we will make it +3 if you miss the green, since there are +2 areas in the green. I will update the pdf to add that to it.

+3, but I counts as a drop and you get another shot? :D

I thought about doing some sort of penalty and then another shot, but then someone could get a -1 on the shot, and that would negate the penalty.

Updated the file. Now there are lots of little reminders floating around to get the "don't miss" stuck in your head. Almost like water.

I am curious how the strategy is going to play on this one, if people choose to play it safe an not go for the birdie on a few holes.

This looks to be fun. But just to let you know I hate golf!!! I even had to look up what a "birdie was"!

LOL. I thought about that when I set up the instructions, and so I tried to make sure to use scores with the golf lingo. That is also why I had to be sure to say what Par was in the instructions. It hit me that people might not know what a Par is, but I didn't put it on the printout.

I think it is going to be fun. I can't wait to try it out tomorrow if I have time. I tried to mix up some of the holes to make some harder than others, but I wasn't sure what it would take to have people not go for the -1. Like the sniper challenge you all did, some people took safer, non head shots. I was trying to make some harder, so people may not always go for it. That being said, I'm going for it every time!

I have had so much fun the last couple weeks going back and shooting some of your previous monthly events. I have never had this much fun.

Went out to test it today. I'm going to have to get my photoshopper to thicken the lines up. It was hard to see at times out there today. Looked almost gray. I will get it fixed and remame it V3 when I can get her to make the change.

Looks much better. Thank you. Now my old eyes might be able to see it!

I hope it helps. I could barely see the smaller holes yesterday. If that doesn’t make it better, I can just make the holes black. I didn’t go there yet, thinking people would probably prefer the white background of the hole. Thing is hard enough as it is.

It looks a lot better. I am going to print it out later this afternoon, but I do not think there is going to be a problem. Will try to shoot it Tuesday.

Just printed it out. Looks good as far as I am concerned.

Missing a green is what the +3 area. I don’t know what to say about missing the paper. You are penalized enough just knowing you missed it!

Well went out today with 6 printouts. Best I could do in the breezy conditions was +11. Pretty fun shoot. Thanks
Glad you enjoyed it. I tried it Sunday and it was pretty tough. I tried once with CCI SD and it was going really well, but I had it too low on the board and there were some twigs that were in the way and I tried to shoot through them and they defected my shots on the last two holes and ruined a really good sheet. Second one with CCI wasn’t as good. I tried some SK STD+ and it didn’t do too great either. This rifle doesn’t seem to like it like my CZs do. I ran a sheet with SK Rifle Match and it was really good. I need to get it out of the range bag and total it up for submission.
I am swapping scopes out this week, so I hope I doesn’t mess up my good shooting.

Yea I was running CCI SV and dang fliers. Would have decent few shots then WTH did that come from. 1.5" from where I was aiming. Seemed to have one every 20-30 rounds.

I'll start this post by saying a few things I learned this morning.

1. I really hate you all for getting me into this.
2. A bipod that swivels is a bad thing.
3. A table that wobbles is a bad thing
4. A crunchy 5+ lb trigger is a bad thing.
5. Crosshair/reticle size matters.

I am a rookie so the positive is I learned a little today. I was satisfied with where I was through the first 12, then all hell broke loose. I'd like to blame it on the weather, but it was all me. The missing shot on 14 was in the staple down in no man's land. I wasn't really comfortsble with my set up, but that may just be inexperience. I need to modify the bipod and do something with my trigger. Those were my 2 biggest problems.

Think this is a +17.

CZ 452. Bone stock with no upgrades.
Harris Bipod. That freaking swivels!
Rear Caldwell bag with ears.
Sightron 4-12 S1 scope
CCI SV

Maybe I'm missing it but if the +11 listed by @tod0987 above is the only other posted score you're in 2nd place - not bad! And just for fun I'll toss out there that without photo proof it didn't really happen so you're arguably in the lead! Of course, we'd probably believe him if it came right down to it and he pinky sweared that he was telling the truth :)

Haha ... our work is done and we've accomplished the mission! LOL

Re all the other "bad things" I'd just follow with ...

A cold beer after the fact while feeling humbled is always a good thing! Works for me every time.

I'm planning to shoot it tonight and what I already know is that no matter how bad I do I'll know I could have done worse, no matter how good I do I'll know I could have done better, and no matter what other thoughts may cross my mind I'll always be glad that I at least got out there and took a shot at it (pun intended) and I'll want to go at it again to do the "better" part. My leading up to it in advance excuse is that I'll be shooting a variety of ammo, some that have never been in my rifle so could go either way as finicky as 22lr can be.

A beer would have been great if it wasn't 11 am on a week day. Had to get back and do some work!

BTW! Here is the target for another club member that was shooting at the same time. The golf game perked his interest so I gave him a clean target. He was a lot more consistent than I was that's for sure.

I definitely hate you and your Anschutz. :p

I think I would have liked more than 12x magnification, but 36x is some serious firepower.

Yea I tried shooting it with my stock Ruger 10/22 with 9x scope and to say the least it was not good. Also the Federal Match did much better today then in the past. I have had consistency problems with it. But today it was not to bad.

I looked at the challenge with my 512 and 3-9 and decided I'd go with the 12x instead. Those holes are tiny. Thinking with the 3-9 and 512 I likely would have been at a solid 30 or so.

I figured it would be quickly beaten and didn't want to clog up server space.

Here ya go.

Printed out 6 more today. Shot 2 with CCISV, 2 with Fed Premium hunter match, and 2 with Aguila Pistol Match. Best 2 were the first 2 targets shot and were with CCISV. The gun did not like the Federal hunter match or Federal Target. A rain shower moved in next to us when shooting the Aguila and it got gusty, but I think it would do well, so I will pick up another box and shoot it again when winds are calmer.

That is excellent. I must have missed it earleir, what gun, scope and set up aremyou using? I am hot on the case of a Yo Dave Trigger kit to help me out. But it won't get me where you are without a lot of trigger time. You shoot well.

Thanks. I built it this spring to compete in these monthly matches as my current 22s couldn't cut it... They're just minute of squirrel. It has around 750 rds through it right now. I have a bunch of CCISV but still trying different brands in the $3-8 per box range.

Savage Mk II FVSR, Boyds Pro Varmint stock, Athlon Argos BTR 6-24x50 FFP, harris bipod, and an AAC Element2 can.

Being a rebel I have convinced myself that I can beat you all with CCI SV and a 5 lb trigger. I am dumb. I now see that Timney sells a CZ 452 trigger. I may get within 10 shots of you guys someday.

I mainly shoot CCI SV and so far it has been the best but this is just my opinion that there seems to be variability from box to box. I usually pick up a 2-4 boxes each time I go to Academy so I have random lots and I think I'm noticing some variance. I set one box aside on Tue after it was shooting all over the place. I opened up another box and it settled back down. I'm thinking I'll shoot what I have and then pickup a case from natchess or someone else where they're on sale for 2.60ish a box.

Thst is now my excuse for the last 6 holes on my target. At least part of it was a new box. Couldn't have been me. ;)

I'm a fan of the YoDave trigger kit in my CZ455 - so simple and when I installed mine all I needed was a spring mod and didn't even mess with the shims.

I had high hopes for CCI SV when I first bought my CZ455 but it was only ok. I'm convinced that it's just my CZ455 since it works great for so many others and even for me in other guns - rifles and pistols. In fact, it's my go to choice for everything else 22 that I shoot. Maybe I should give it another try in my CZ455 to see if I was just running into a less than stellar lot.
