This is a very fun 3-gun match hosted by the NCPCPL, a group led by LE who have been doing matches since the 1970s. Even though it is historically LE, everyone is free to participate. I'm not LE, and I've been doing it for 4 years now.

It's really 3-gun 'light', as it is not overly gear intensive. Typically there's only one rifle stage (though it is tough with shots from 10-200 yards). The rest of it are pistol/shotgun. The only bit of gear you'll near are slings for rifle and shotgun. The reason is this is considered "training", and you wouldn't throw your gun on the ground. Same goes for things like no burning extra shots into the berm.

It's a lot of fun, a great bunch of guys, and a way to get some practical skills. You'll need two mags of .223 (no steel core), about 30 rounds of birdshot, and 100 rounds or so of pistol.

I would try this, but have never run a shotgun in competition before, and you've seen every rifle round I've fired in a match (the two PCC runs). Don't have shell carriers or high cap mag fed semi-auto shotguns, etc.

So, beginner friendly at all?

There's not a lot of shotgun reloading. I think you would really enjoy this match. Dudes are cool and only care that you are safe.

Yep, beginner friendly. I mean, it's not an easy match, but it's not gear intensive. You don't need a shell loader- if your shotty holds 8, that's usually the number of targets on a stage (don't miss). In any case, you can borrow my shell holder- I got one of the fancy quad loading belt types and never get to use it in this match. The make or break for this match is really the rifle stage- 10 seconds for each piece you don't hit. +80 seconds for me last match (new scope, bad ammo is not a good combo).

Other than that, it's typical idpa/uspsa/zombie-ish pistol. Mags any capacity, reload when you want. @Jayne I'm on squad 2. You can borrow my shotty and (much more accurate now) rifle if you need.

I think the rules go, if you hit a non threat you incur no penalty so long as you yell, "Stop resisting"
That's pretty funny, but I haven't heard that one used. More often it's accusing the non-threat from being in the wrong part of town or hanging out with the wrong crowd :p

Actually, I feel better about LE after shooting this match. These are legit guys and very little attitude (helps when I beat them on the occasional stage). We also had some fort bragg operators show up- those guys were pretty cool- super-chill.

ok that's cool, I would like to try using all these various things, just don't want to have to figure out a ton of specialized gear I might end up using once.

I hope this is a reoccurring event, as it looks like I can't make this one. The wife is injured and a bunch of the farmyard chores that she normally does are now falling to me so my Saturday is going to be filled with random feed store trips, hay hauling and other chores that can only be done while the stores are open on Saturday morning. Merph.

This was a side effect I was hoping would happen as well. LE are the agents of the crown, but perhaps they're also good folk who might be on our side at some point. Best to interact with them and make my own judgement rather than count on the biased media.

Yep, it's a monthly match, see you next time!

Yeah, don't miss. I missed a lot last weekend- but it was bizarre. Had to shoot both pistol and shotgun offhand- and not off left shoulder- left hand was for trigger. Not pretty.
Yep, September 15th.

I signed up but didn't squad, it said I would be notified when I could squad.

Had to pick "optics" even though I don't have a semi-auto shotgun because my rifle has an optic on it. Not that it really matters, but them's the rules.

Yep, any optic puts you in optics. And one of the top competitors uses a pump, so not a big penalty. But, considering you only get one magazine for long range rifle shots, I can't see doing it without optics (even when my eyes were much better, that would have been tough).

You're welcome to borrow my auto gun, and/or scoped rifle.

I've got a mossberg pump that I've used for chuckar, pheasant, quail, doves, trap, skeet and sporting clays with the 28" barrel on it, taken a turkey with a 24" barrel on it and now have the 18" on it for this. Gotta make solid use of this purchase before I start experimenting with them funny semi guns.

My PSA wonder AR has new gas rings man, it's ready to rock.

(but appreciate the offer)
