We're prepared as well as we can and ready to ride this thing out. Bad idea? Maybe. Probably. Either way, I have made the choice to stay. Flooding shouldn't be an issue for me except I'll most likely be locked in for a few days by some flooded roads. My main concern is some trees nearby.

I hope everyone stays safe and suffers minimal impact from the storm.

Nothing gets your attention focused like being in the path of bad weather.

I've got immediate family in three NC/SC locations hours apart and we will all be affected. Some more than others.

Unless it's by choice, no one should be in harm's way. There has been plenty of time to get the hell out of Dodge.
You really dont know anyone elses’ situation but your own, mother goose.

My in-laws live in Elizabeth City and they didn't hesitate to pack up and head inland to Lake Lure for a week.

We are in for the long haul, about 30 miles inland from WLM and 50' above sea level. If we survive the storm I'm guessing 3 weeks min before we can get out of here for re supply runs.

So f I haven't checked back in for a month of so.... bye..

I don't understand the sudden shopping spree's. What in hell did you do with the last prep's you bought?? Having to prep for each occurrence is stupid, do your prep and rotate as required.
I've run down my checklist and the only thing I'm adding is a power strip for the little genset, which I didn't have until a month ago.
If you or someone close to you is in the cone of real danger and you don't evac, the loads on you, I won't come to the rescue.

Be safe

Stay safe Geezer.

between horses, rabbits, chickens, dogs its not easy to just leave

Did they post base closings yet? I know the schools are starting to shut down.

Wow! I guess my cat and I are on our own then....lol.
If they tell me to leave, I will, but have no idea where to.
What shopping spree?

I have never understood the rush on stores and then you will see people buying frozen foods and you know all those people do not have generators. We always stay well stocked with emergency rations and other stuff.

The milk and bread guys have been busy. I have bought neither. I think we have most of a half gallon of milk on hand. I can use this to make cornbread.

Should I stay or should I go? Waiting to see when they shut down the Wake Co schools and cancel my eldest's volleyball game for Thursday. Thinking about packing up the cars and going to W. Jefferson. Up there I have an unlimited water supply and it will be a little cooler without AC if the power goes. I also have a good stash of preps up there. A good amount of charcoal and wood for cooking. If I pack wisely I'll be able to be pretty well set up there for quite a while if need be.

What says the CFF crowd? Apex or West Jefferson?

If I had the option, I would go @CZfool68.

That is what I am thinking. But I haven't discussed it with Mrs Fool yet. She gets a say.

One bright side of all this drama is that my wife suddenly doesn't think my MRE's and water bricks, which she knew nothing about until last night, aren't crazy. She also mentioned that when this is all over maybe we should get a generator. I almost said, like the one I wanted to buy 5 years ago until you gave me THAT look.

I like going to watch the mayhem

It’s akin to Walmart on Christmas Eve

Head over to Gatlinburg TN. Hit up Bugs Gun Shop and Smokey Mountain Knife works and buy us all some new toys!
Sure, just send me your credit cards and I'll be happy to go...make me a list!

I don’t drink milk, and i use tortillas for bread. Last a lot longer than bread. I keep a few packs of those. Not like I’ll be home anyway. We’re already getting ready for flooding here at work. That’s where I’ll be this weekend

Thats great and all, but plenty of folks have jobs that will expect them there whatever happens. Not everyone has choices or resources to just up and leave.

Yeah it should be obvious. Was waiting to get a better idea of the storm track and possible flooding. In W. Jeff we may lose power, but flooding won't be an issue. Just bigger trees falling.
And.......you'll be in W Jefferson.

That's not even a question you really need to ask. Plus Shatley Springs might still be open.

Probably. But I have friends and neighbors here. A few prepared ones and a few that might need help. Feel kinda bad about abandoning people. But family first so we'll likely head up.

Also feel bad about abandoning my gun safe. I'll travel with some trusted favorites, but the others might get scared during the storm. :(

I'll be happy to run around the corner and check on them for you.

One of my good friends, Marine and prepardness freak lives close by. He might stay at our place during the storm. Still working out details. He has an ex-wive and son nearby so he'll want to stay close.

I hope they are on top of the mountain. During Hugo some of the mountain slid off into the lake. All of that dirt slid into the river. Even today you can see where those slides took place. Power was out for weeks. What happened was rain pounded the area with some places.getting 20" of rain in and around the gorge.

I live not far from there. It took years to recover.
