How do you take care of your feet and keep them healthy? I am usually pretty sore the day after a match in my arms, chest and legs but my feet are literally KILLING me. I wear good shoes that have good padding and I’ve worn minimalist shoes with almost no padding and it doesn’t seem to make a difference. I’ll usually do a light work out today and focus on the sore areas for arms, chest, and legs but the only thing I’ve been able to find for feet is to walk on my toes. Damn heels are killin me. Any ideas?

I change socks and shoes a couple of times a day, changes pressure points. Having just one spare pair of similar but different boots that you rotate can make a world of difference. I have found minor improvements/relief using plantar fasciitis insoles. You might look at custom orthotics from a actual sports medicine Dr. type.

Beyond that, for me survival consists of Ibuprofen before during and after, Epson salt baths or foot soaks after. Continual stretching of calf and lower back muscles before during and after.

I have no disks in my lower back and virtually no cartilage left in my knees post surgery, once the back goes the hips knees and feet follow allow with comparable pain levels. I probably complain about my feet more than anything. Bottom line is I sit as much as possible, wherever and whenever I can.

Get yourself checked for Type 2 Diabetes if you haven't already. Foot neuropathy is to be taken seriously.

Plantar fasciitis. Aka heel spurs. Does it feel like you are driving a nail into your heel when you first get up to walk after being off you feet for a while?

I take a 40 year old lawn chair and park my carcass to reload mags. After helping set up at 7 AM, then running shooters or keeping score from 9AM till noon...or 1....or 2PM, it helps to sit down and take a load off for just a few minutes each stage.

Yes. That's almost exactly what it feels like

See a podiatrist....
Thank you! Take your health seriously. How will you ever run a match again if you **** your feet up? How much do you spend on guns, ammo, and gear? Hint: more than I'd bet your copays for a specialist visit and some prescription antiinflammatories, and custom inserts for sure.

After walking around 8n pain for several months I went looking for help. A set of orthotic inserts set me back $750 out of pocket. Best damn money I ever spent on myself. After a couple of years I don't need them now but I'll be damned if I throw them away.

I used to get what your describing. I tried different shoes and not relief. Until I went to fleet feet and actually got fitted for a pair of shoes. They watched me walk and 3D molded my feet. Ended up with some brooks ghost 11 shoes for a good price. No foot pain since. Might be worth a try. @FatboyFlash

Plantar fasciitis is what that sounds like.

Two elements to deal with....

The inflammation that you're currently experiencing. Ice is great along with NSAIDs to manage the acute symptoms. Freeze a couple 20 oz water bottles and put them in the arches of your feet during flare-ups.

Next phase is to deal with the tight plantar fascia that is causing the inflammation. Get a piece of 2x4 about shoulder width. Lay it on the floor. Put the balls of your feet in it and heels on the floor. You'll feel the stretch. Do that a few times a day until you stop having symptoms.

Had it for years. Don't have it any more.

I’ll look into it for sure

Here's the deal about feet: do you have normal arches? Flat, high? Are you a pronator, supinator, overpronator? Do you heel walk or ball walk? Do you have veinous claudication or neuropathy?

Do what you want, but unless you find out why your feet are feeling like they do, all you will be doing is chasing symptoms. That's why I suggest a podiatrist or an ortho who specializes in feet.

Several others have already hit all the high points of foot care/health.

For me dealing with my plantar fasciitis and aching legs distilled down to:
  • seeing a podiatrist and getting fitted for orthopedic inserts
  • changing over from cotton socks to merino wool socks
  • ice, stretching, and hot foot soaks with epsom salts
  • find a massage therapist to work on your feet once a month
  • finding the right shoes for your feet
I like Darn Tough Vermont socks and Merrel MOAB shoes. The orthodic inserts also helped me with some lower back issues. Good Luck!

I had plantar fasciitis in 2013 thru 2014 got the braces to wear at night that holds your foot at a 90 deg angle. It made it a slightly better when getting out of bed, nothing more. But what eliminated it for me was Couch to 5k over 2 months. Has not been a problem since.
