Where to buy work boots

I get $75.00 every year from my company to buy new safety work boots.

The safety boot truck comes to work to sell you new boots but each year you have kick in 25 -50 more dollars to get a good pair of boots.

I think the boot truck is not a great deal to me.

I can spend up to $75.00 per year and I will get reimbursed if I have a receipt.

Anyone know of a good source for safety boots?
 
Academy sells Cat boots in that price range. Although i’d spend the extra $$ on some Dr Martens and not need new boots for a few years.
 
Im in the same boat of recommending you spend a little more my feet thank me at the end of the day and reminded me last time I tried getting a cheap pair of steel toes. I bought a pair of redwing steel toes for work and really like those and have held up well for daily wear.
 
I used to buy Wolverines for around $120, they would last a year tops before they were worn out and the sole's would split. I thought they were pretty comfortable at the time.

My current pair of Redwings were twice the cost with the upgraded insoles, but much more comfortable. From a past leg, ankle, and foot injury, I'd rather wear them than sneakers. This pair is just over a year old, worn 5-6 days a week on mostly concrete floors and walking over 5 miles per day. Two days this past week were over 10 miles each.
It's time to replace the worn out insoles, but the rest of the boot have many miles left in them.
 
Keen makes good work boots. IIRC, both Gander and Academy sell them.

Yeah...you'll probably have to fork out some $$$ outta your own pocket, in addition to the $75 you're getting from your employer, but it'll be worth it.

Personally, I refuse to cut corners on footwear. Get a bad pair of shoes/boots and it'll wreak havoc not only on your feet, but your legs and back as well.
 
Boots are something I try not to skimp on. Haven’t had the best of luck with Georgia boots, Carolina boots or ariats. They were all comfortable after broke in they just didn’t last. I got a year or so out of each pair. I’ve had the best luck with Justin boots, and currently wear a pair of square toe pull ons that I got from tractor supply for around 120 I believe.
 
I picked up a pair of Timberlands a few years back and they're the most comfortable boots I've worn. I used to wear durashocks but they don't come close to comfort and durability.
You'll have to put some $ with your allowance but I don't think you'll be disappointed.

If you purchase in stock boots at Tractor Supply, they'll replace them if they wear out. Take a picture of the receipt, the thermal receipts fade quickly.

My neighbor sells discontinued but NIB surplus shoes at flea market prices. I just got a $200 pair of Dan Post safety/work boots waaaaay below retail. In Charlotte area, PM me for contact info if you want it.
 
I buy mine from the Wolverine site as I wear 11EEEE and lets see you find them in ANY store
 
We get $135 plus tax to spend on a pair every year. I usually add 35-40 on top of that for a pair of Red Wings

I wear mine all the time and they're breaking in nicely...very nicely...like slippers made from leather.

FWIW Whites and Nicks are only a couple of blocks apart if you want a little road trip to compare before you buy. However don't mention you are cross shopping, there is a little bit of bad blood between them.

The thermal printers aren't exclusive to TSC. Almost every printer that prints on-demand is a thermal printed receipt. Here's a test - set your gas pump receipt on the dash in the sun for a day or 2. You'll see what I mean.
 
I wore Redwings for years. They stopped carrying the kind I liked so 2 years ago I bought my first pair of Justin's. Need a new pair now and it will 100% be Justin's again. As comfortable as the Redwings. They last longer and a little bit cheaper

Been wearing the same model of Danners for 10 years. Cost upwards of $200, but I get two years min out of a pair. This year's pair still in box upstairs. Wear them 12to 16 hours a day. Went 42 hours in a pair once, all day, all night cooking pig, all day again.

Im in red wings now. I like danner and timberland pro series as well. I go to B. B. Walkers in Asheboro not that big deal is gone. I bought the redwings from southern states on sale.
 
75 really ain't shit for a good pair of workin boots. I usually end up in a pair of Redwings or Irish Sitters. I have a pair of Justin's also. They are ok. I'm kinda a boot snob because of my crappy feet. I only wear slip ons. You really can tell the difference at the end of the day when you have good boots. 75.00 for boots? I guess it's better than nothing. I get 200/year for boots.

My sales clerk was a paramedic who recommended these composite boots that meet the same safety standards as steel. She said they were the only ones that she could stand to wear for an entire shift. I think the brand was magnum.
 
Donnie’s Western store in Rockwell has a good selection of Justin and Keens.

I have worn Redwing, Justin, Danner, Ariat, Rocky, Wolverine and Keen. I am on concrete 8 hours a day walk an average of 3-4 miles a day on concrete and have come to fall in love with Keen followed by Ariat.
 
If Keen work boots are anything like their shoes, then they're likely great boots. Otherwise, Redwing has won my heart. Buy once, cry once mentality.

+1 For Nicks Boots. I've been wearing them exclusively for 12 years, and they're the toughest, best built boots out there. The pair I'm wearing today are 8 years old, and still look, fit, and wear great. Had them resoled a few times. They're expensive, but worth it.

If you are anywhere near Burlington, Bells is the place to shop. I used to buy boots regularly there when I lived in Burlington. Good Folks. If you are in the Eastern part of the state, Suttons Safety Shoes in LaGrange (I think, down 70 towards Kinston) is also an excellent shoe retailer. They actually do our shoe truck.
 
I have a pair of Keen Pittsburgh soft toe that are 170 on Keen website and probably a little cheaper on Amazon. I have been wearing them I wear them pretty much everyday at work on a construction site and they are in good shape still. I am pretty hard on boots especially during foundations with all the steel. They are still waterproof as I have been testing them out here in Iowa in the mud and rain. Today however I had to pull out the muck boots. Been pumping water all day. That is nice you get some money for boots. We are on our own. However we have great benefits.
 
I’ve been wearing safety toe boots for about 40 years, and for the last 13 years I have worn them every day here on the farm, usually for at least 12 hours at a time, 7 days a week.

Just about all of the brands mentioned thus far in this thread have been worn by me at one time or another.

I’m currently wearing the Keen Detroit model. For the shape of my feet, they are the most comfortable boots that I’ve worn. I alternate between two sets and put them on a Peet boot dryer every night.

I'm at work right now in a pair of Red Wings. Thats about all I have worn for the last 35 years or so. Don't skimp on boots, Buy good ones and your feet will thank you.
I keep 2 pair and rotate out every other day.
 
If you ever find yourself in the Gastonia area, check out Morgan's. I've never seen so many boots (and shoes) under one roof. You could literally spend hours trying on boots.

I have Keen feet, and have a pair of Keen steel toes on right now. I used to wear Red Wings, but they discontinued the model that worked for me, and none of the others felt right. I've had one pair of Wolverines, and got plantar fasciitis in both feet. Feet healed up when I replaced them with my first pair of Keen work boots.

The Keens have typically lasted me about 18 months, and cost about $110.00.
 
Good info in this thread. i'm going to look at some of these other brands. I have been wearing Timberland Pro Series and Redwing.
