On one hand I am all "Molon Labe" he should be allowed to have whatever he wants.

On the other hand, its serial number was scratched off >and< he knew it was full auto. So, just because I bought a pound of blow back in 82 doesn't make it any less illegal to have.

And to add...there are a lot of "veterans" even "medal winners" who are horrible people. While the default seems to be that "veteran" makes someone a wonderful human being, the reality is that sometimes terrible people do awesome things and then go back to being terrible people. Not saying this dude was a "terrible person" but just that accepting all veterans face value as above reproach is moronic.

What he said^^ plus, I wanna know how the hell the feds found out about it and raided his house 30 years later.

Betting someone ratted him out...recently

According to one of the comments, his own daughter turned him in. Pure speculation, of course.

In short, a crazy liberal daughter who was cut out of the will wants to see her gun toting dad do 7 years because guns r bad mkay.

7yrs will go by quicker than she thinks. That will come back to haunt her..IMHO

May not be alive in 7 years. Most us SEA vets are getting some age on us.

This sentence seems a bit harsh, as people can, and sometimes do wind up getting off for this sort of thing with a slap on the wrist. Something just doesn't add up and I'm wondering what other things may have been in his background that aren't presented here.

Far be it for me to disagree and state that he didn't knowingly break the law. He did and should pay the same price any of us would.

My use of the word "Hero" in my thread title was merely a repeat of the news article.

My intent was the fact that there are people walking amongst us that have done far worse and sentenced to far less than this guy. Pedophiles are a perfect example.

I get so conflicted about these types of articles, for all the reasons mentioned above. On the one hand, did he break the law? Is it within a statute of limitations? Sorry, brother.... On the other, it's kind of ticky-tack to nail him now, throw him behind bars, if he has no record otherwise when other punishments may be more fitting and there are, like, for-real violent criminals out there.

Hillary and obama were accessory to the murder of 4 Americans in Benghazi - where is the justice for the 4 Americans that the President of the US and the US Secretary of State sent them to enemy territory and refuse to provide them with support when they called for it.

Too bad he didn't have a badge.

It's a miscarriage of justice, whether or not he's a veteran, a great guy, or a bad guy.

Yeah, "the Law says" - the Law says a lot of immoral and unjust shit, and "the Law" is always the last refuge of most corrupt scoundrels on this Earth.

Where's the victim of his alleged "crime?"

Where are "the majority of LEOs who would never enforce gun control" schemes?

A man's Rights were violated. Period.

The fact that we blame the victim for the immorality of the Law is precisely why We, the People wear but the tattered remnants of Liberty that was secured by a generation "composed of Men often times half starved—always in Rags—without pay—& experiencing, at times, every Species of distress which human nature is capable of undergoing."

Dude broke the law and more likely than not knew he had an illegal gun due to it having no serial number and being FA. However, 7 years in Club Fed seems excessive to me considering his advanced age and evidently clean prior record. Like others have said, I bet there’s a good bit more to this story than has been reported.

Agreed. I know a lot of shit bags that are veterans. Hell some might say the same about me but I tend to disagree

The last trial my wife did was a guy in Cabarrus county that reported a theft at his house but there had been no theft. Unfortunately for him he had something like 120 firearms in his house and was a convicted felon. He was a veteran and he was off his rocker as well. The POS threatened my pregnant wife by telling her when he got out of prison that baby would be about 10 years old and he'd be seeing her. I guess that didn't play well with the jury.
Much like this vet he hadn't been in trouble that anyone knew of, but was in possession of weapons he shouldn't have had for a different reason. So the war hero veteran BS is only good for your last drink at the VFW as far as I'm concerned. Live your life well and afterwards be a hero in life as well as in war.

The law is immoral period.
Wait till some of you, “he boke the law” shouters either do something stupid or one of your family members does, those fingers will be pointing right back attcha.

Stupid laws need to be changed but in today’s liberal minded society fat chance of that happening.

And another thing, the day they pass a law that says all guns are illegal and you must turn them in, I’m sure all you gum flappers will be first in line.

Im a veteran and that shouldnt have anything to do with his actions.

War hero goes on rampage and shoots up a middle school.......... The fact that he served his country isnt related, or isnt a get out of jail free card. Of all people, he should have known better.
