Are you guys doing anything special to be sure your chest freezers are always working? I've heard of freezers failing and people losing the contents.
We had one to stop working a few years ago, but my wife happened to notice a partially thawed package very early and brought it to my attention. I bought another freezer and transferred everything over, well, what we thought was safe to keep.
Some contractors doing some work on an outside building, unplugged Dad's freezer (after he clearly told them which outlet to use) and he found out the hard way that his freezer wasn't working. He could smell the rotted meat while standing in the yard.
What steps have you taken to be sure you don't lose your meats and veggies? I've seen some of the high tech gadgets some of you use when you're using your smoker. Is there something like that for freezers?
