So me & the boys go to lunch, and the new guys suggests a good Mexican restaurant that none of us have been to, so we go there.
We approach the glass door, I put my hand on the door...but stop before entering...and like the stooges they all stack up behind me. I'm looking all around the entrance. Then I open the door and we all go in.
The new guy says why did you stop at the door? I say just looking to see if there's any specials.

I'm sure the regular guys will let him know that Mr. Friday /aka shrieking harpy supervisor from hell, was looking for a gunbuster sign and he if found one we all would've gone somewhere else.

I didn't have to look real diligently, I've never seen a buster sign at a Mexican restaurant.

What sign? Who's gonna see a sign way up there when I'm watching where my feet are going?

Which restaurant? I haven't really found good Mexican around here. Papas and Beer used to be good, but not, lately.

This was up in Asheville @Tim. In Hendersonville, El Paso at the Best Western hotel over near the wal mart is the place to go. They do a good job there. The other El Paso on Spartanburg hwy is ok...but the one at the Best Western is better.

Mexican ain’t worth a shit in North Carolina. Chili’s has better Mexican than Mexicans have. Once you eat Tex Mex in Texas, Oklahoma, or the Southwest you consider all NC Mexican pure puke. Eating across the country will ruin you as a food customer in this state.

Accurate. That’s one of the things I’m gonna miss when we move. Great Mexican food here.

Then do us all a favor...

Open a killer Tex-Mex restaurant, please.

On my bucket list on my first trip to Texas was to eat tacos from a Mexican food truck. I did a few different times and was not disappointed.

I lived in AZ for 15 years, I have always been disappointed east of the Mississip and seldom bother anymore.

Not much in the way of gun buster signs out that way either.

Just so happens I'll be in east TX next week gunning down some unlucky geese and you can bet yo azz I'll be having dinner at "Juans" at least 3 times, and suffering heartburn 4 times. It hurts but it's worth it.....
They make meds for heartburn. It's kinda like a morning after pill.

Slight derail, Jack Furr, a former Gunsite instructor once told me open carry was ok in banks there. One day he was not armed going to the bank and the teller asked if he was feeling ok, cause he wasn't wearing his gun.:D

I miss going on sales calls for the week:
Houston, Austin, San Antonio...
The food, the food...
San Antonio. My memories of San Antonio are of the food. They know how to eat in San Antonio.:D
Houston? Concrete jungle.

As a well traveled fat guy foodie who's spent a lot of time in Texas and Mexico, the problem with that statement is you obviously think Tex-Mex and Mexican food is the same thing... We have the second largest population of Mexicans in NC(next to CA, btw). Believe me, there's really good Mexican food here... and Chili's isn't food I would feed my dog...

Concealed is concealed. Not sure I would out myself to people I don't know for a gun buster sign at a restaurant. Gov building would be different. I don't carry when with work colleagues though.

Yep. If you're ordering in English, you're doing it wrong.

I grew up in AZ and been to Mexico (not just border towns either) quite a few times and have found a few places in my AO that have real Mexican food. There's a spot in Raleigh off Capital Blvd called Los Cuates where I can get a real deal carne asada burrito like back home. Then of course the taco truck that sits outside LKQ in Garner is good as well. If you havent had cabeza or lengua tacos you ain't livin! What's funny is when folks out here say they want real Mexican food then scoff at any of the suggestions I throw out and insist on going to Mi Casita or Wicked Taco:confused:. Wicked Taco sucks really really bad btw! Most folks don't want Mexican food, they want what they think is Mexican food.

Just got back from hunting in Pearsall TX. It’s a mall town in South TX. They have great Mexican Food. Only one restaurant is open at 0500 and yep it’s Mexican. We eat at the same two every year. The waitress helps us with our orders, we tell them what we want the laugh and bring us their favorites.

Do you have any links to support that? Growing up in NC I have heard people say this several times and I'm not sure why, because it is not accurate.

Agree on Chili's though....absolute hot garbage.

Our Mexican restaurant is one of the best I've ever had, and I've had Mexican food in Mexico as recent as April 2018. It's called El Vaquero and the core staff came from another good restaurant in town.
The salsa is homemade style, not watered down tomato sauce. The pork carnitas are marinated, not dry (happens to be my favorite) and all our friends that regularly eat Mex rave every time we take them there.

There's a place near me that has great Mexican and Central American food. The Lengua tacos are the best! The lengua is so good I get it in tacos, burittos, and everything else.

You're off topic. We're talking about food now. Keep up! :D

Gun buster signs? What gun buster signs?
Conspicuously displayed. If I have to look for it, it's not conspicuously displayed.

Y’all just need to find someone who grew up making the food and immigrated here and eat with them. My buddies parents are from Honduras and her cooking is amazing. Salsa and papoosa and all kinds of stuff I don’t know the name of. Everything is delicious.

Or go to whatever country who's food you like and marry one of the local girls ;) Bring em back home and your all set.

We used to have a great Mexican place in Greensboro called Los Gordos but sadly they were in a horrible location and ended up moving to a worse location so they went belly up, I ruined my family by taking them there and now we never have Mexican food anymore.

There is a very good Mexican restaurant in Apex "Tacos Mexico". I tend to watch ethnic eating establishments to see where the ethnic people go to eat.

My sadness is that there are no good Greek, Cuban, Italian or Middle Eastern restaurants around.

Yes, I am spoiled. I grew up in J'ville, FL with small family dining options everywhere.

It’s not high end, but I really like Razzoo’s in Concord.
I’m currently enjoying Rat Toes- jalapeños with cheese, schkrimp and crab, battered & fried
Sschkimp brioche- butterflied with a slice of jalapeño, wrapped in bacon , grilled on a bed of dirty rice. :)
