Is it just me, or are Hi Point owners the Subaru owners of the firearms world? They constantly have to talk about how it can do anything other handguns can do. It reminds me of the Subaru guys that claim their “subie” can do anything a true four wheel drive can. Change my mind.

Do Subaru's still come with Obama stickers or someone else????
Warren 2020 I think.

As far as the OP...Hi-Points, in my opinion, are the perfect example of a gun being ruined by snobbery. You can be a cheap snob, just as you can be an "expensive" snob. On one hand you have the "My Hi-Point is JUST AS GUD..." and on the other hand the "HeRE Go deh PoORZ again BEinG POOR"

Kinda like Anderson lowers. They are what they are. They do it well. No reason to make it more than it is. It is an inexpensive option, but there are better options out there.

A Subaru is a super nice car.

The Hipoint........ is a gun.
The cult following and having to keep saying that it’s just as good is what I was referencing.

I had a similar Conversation with a brand new shooter last night. I think that in general people are bad about identifying what they need a product to do and where the capabilities end. If you are shooting at an indoor 25 yard range, almost everything is “good enough”. It’s hard to see what performance advantages exist between different products. Go outside in rain or breeze and you might see some differences. Add a timer and a smaller target, some stuff will suddenly be no longer good enough. Move out distances, even more so.

A Subaru is as good as or maybe even better than a rock climbing jeep for the purposes of getting to work during an ice storm. But that is not the environment that is going to demonstrate where it’s capabilities end.

To use the old analogy about the handgun, the carbine and the rifle...the subaru is the carbine.

They aren't perfect for all situations but are useful in many more scenarios than any other comparable vehicle in their price point.

I would actually equate the cliched Subaru owner to the cliched Glock 19 owner...the product is not designed to meet every users needs for all situations...there are rarely any new innovations instead you get updates or tweaks on what has worked so well before...and loyal owners are loyal because of how easily the product is applied in most scenarios..not because of just one application.

I remember one guy who would show up with his same two guns, a hi point 45 pistol and a Mosin. That's all he could afford and we all knew that. He was a nice young guy and all of us bent over backwards to let him try guns he couldn't afford. He passed away at 31 from a brain tumor, but we all have good memories of watching him light up and enjoy trying all the guns he could only dream about owning.
When folks like this show up at the range with guns like these, I know why. It's all they can do right now, and they're also a little apprehensive and yes maybe defensive, since most everyone else has $3000 worth of guns with them. Take em under your wing and let them shoot the AR10 and the 1911. The defensive postures disappear and it's all 'thank you' and 'I really appreciate that!'
If you're one of those that needs a return on his investment, then no worries. Someday you'll get paid back..with interest.

Id say more like the kia. Subaru's are more expensive than most cars these days.

Serious. They had an Outback over at Southpoint a while back. So I went to check it out. I think it was someting like $45k. WTF? Crazy.

I'd consider a Subaru. I could use an AWD or 4WD drive for my mountain trips. I'd prefer a truck, bit if I habe to use the vehicle for work as well a Subaru wagon would habe advantages. But for $45k I'd grab a Pilot, Highlander or maybe even a 4Runner.

Not a thing wrong with a Hipoint if you can't afford something better. They work. It's like a tool from harbor freight. They get the job done but if you plan to use them seriously save up for better tools... I like Makita... and GLOCKs...

$150 or less gets you in the game. $150 more will get you something of much higher quality...

Subaru makes really nice cars btw... I would love to have one of those little Crosstrek dealies for an outdoor activities/kicking around vehicle...

That must have been the top of the line..they are usually more in the mid 30s...and still 3-4k less than other companies similar models.

And remember ur comparing a wagon on a car frame to SUVs on truck frames..and and and 4wd are not the same..but I do understand your point.

You can find new glocks for 300?

I have a High Point 9 mm that I bought for $100 end it is actually pretty fun to shoot, good size for concealment, has very little felt recoil and any failures have been due to operator error not the gun.

My only gripe is that if you have a high grip with forward thumbs they drag on the slide and you can get ejection or loading failures.

The slide on these things is huge and there’s hardly any frame whatsoever upon which to rest your thumbs.

Where does it say you can get a glock for $300?

Shit, $100 more than a hipoint will get you a way better gun. A m&p shield, any taurus, s&w SD9VE.. Theres no excuse to buy a hipoint because "you cant afford better"

Save $100 more and go to a pawn shop and pick almost any semi auto pistol for $250. It'll be an upgrade.

No, and I never said new, but you can get a trade in GLOCK for that. There are also plenty of other options when you get to that price point. A used XD or M&P could be had for that as well. Then there are the some decent quality little guns around there as well...

I have no problem with anyone owning a hi point. I’m a budget gun guy myself for pretty much everything as I can’t afford much more than low-mid tier stuff. My problem is when someone goes on and on about they are just as good. Some low and mid tier stuff runs just as well. Hi points don’t whether it’s capacity or durability(pot metal slide). They have a place and purpose, but like someone else said, for $100 more you get a lot more gun. If someone uses that $100 for ammo and training though because it’s all they’ve got, then I think they are better off with a Hi Point.

The little Crosstrek 5-speeds I was looking at were under $25k...

I test drove one a few years ago not long after they came out. They are fun vehicles. Whenever my wife’s fusion dies we will probably be looking at a used one. I will say Subaru’s quality isn’t what it used to be, but they are well thought out vehicles.

We were looking at them for the same reason before our old Fusion was totaled. We lucked into a steal on a used Fusion with 8k miles. Next vehicle, who knows...

We have roof racks on our fusion for extra cargo room or the kayaks. This thread has taken a different direction, but I like it.

They are always at the top of the list of cars that hold their resale value.

I saw a TV ad that said 98% sold in the last ten years were still on the road. That would be more than impressive if true. I have had several Subaru's and will probably have more once they improve their headlights. I really wanted the crosstrek but it just didn't feel right driving. I've got a few years before looking for another car and then I plan on going older land cruiser.

Get a roof rack and storage box ;)

I'd have to check out their ground clearance. And can they tow anything? If I went tiny hatchback style I'd need a trailer around to haul things. If all goes well there will be a few projects at the mountain place this Spring and Summer. Landscaping is happening this year and when that's done I want to build a firepit that could double as a pig cooker up near the house, my current firepit is about 75 yards down the hill. That cooker/pit will have to have its own thread. Maybe I'll host a Pig Cooker Raising with booze and food for laborers.

My FIL has a Subaru. It is kind of loose feeling. And he has had a handful of problems with it. But that could be his driving or a fluke. To me it is less than impressive, but I am also not really used to those smaller, high revving 4 cylinders. My new company car kinda bothers be too.

And keeping a car on the road for 10 years is easy if you want to spend the money. My neighbor's Tahoe just turned 20! He has maintained it very well and it has seat covers over the aging leather, a new engine with about 80k on it and he does all his own maintencace outside of that engine. Nice looking and in better shape than most 10 year old cars. He just put it on craigslist. If he wasn't a neighbor I'd think about buying it for my mountain car.

No idea. I remember specifically noticing that it had good clearance and pointing it out to the old lady. As to towing, I'm sure like most anything it could haul something up to a couple/three thousand pounds if done properly and carefully. Maybe not the right vehicle for you...

Saw those. By the time I get a V6 in there I am back in the range where there are a lot of other options. Like a nice Tacoma or 4Runner. Luckily I have other priorities this year so plenty of time to figure out what I want. Will probably cruise used car lots when I am ready and try to spot somthing that would work.
