30 people taken into custody by ICE agents during raid at Sanford manufacturing company

Bear Creek supplies parts to some of the other bargain manufacturers. Will be interesting to see if this affects prices or availability of the low end AR market.

Will be interesting to see how this plays out. From everything I have seen, in recent years their stuff had started to get a bit better in quality. I never dipped into the Bear Creek parts bin myself.

You may have without knowing it. :)

Our family furniture factory was raided once while I was there. It was an amazing scene with workers running around and trying to hide themselves inside cabinets. The factory was in the LA area and the joke was that deportees could beat the busses back to LA from Tijuana. As I remember it, most of them were back at work a few days later.

I saw the title and my first thought was Coty or one of the chicken processing plants.

I saw the title and said "it'd be funny if it was Bear Creek." Opened the thread and "well I'll be damned...."

So if the human resources department complied then identities were stolen.

It's happened before where the employer will supply the illegal with the identity information for a "fee". Paying them less until the fee is paid, while threatening deportation if they don't work for them. Slave labor/human trafficking to a degree but the illegal doesn't know any better, they have a job and are getting paid even if the pay isn't what it should be.

I'm not saying that's the case here, but I'm just sayin.

I've had my SSN used at least 4 different times with different employers in AZ and CO for employment. I didnt find out until I did my taxes. Talk about a PITA! One of the times it happened I wasn't even in the country, I was in Iraq. The one from Colorado, I was at Bragg. LOL!

Use to be the poultry industry there that was the big illegal employer. It is slightly ironic that a business which is subject to inspection by a couple federal agencies would hire that many illegals. If Homeland and the ATF has a closer relationship Iā€™d be thinking hard if I were in management at Moore Machine ... oops I mean Bear Creek ... about any future violations of hiring illegals and their FFL.

Smithfield Packing got in big trouble a number of years ago for something similar. Their H&R manager/a VP was using fake/stolen SSNs for hiring illegals. I think a couple hundred illegal employees were involved then. What got him caught was using the same phony SSN for more than one person. He lost his job and I think did a little time over it.

Make it impossible for an illegal to work in this country and you wouldn't need a wall.

First, that dream is bigger than the proposed wall. There will always be off the books work.

Second, it is not true. Life in Mexico and Central America is far more dangerous and crappy than unemployed life here. They will still come.

But by all means punish the employers severely. Every little bit helps. time for half measures are long gone. An all of the above strategy is needed.

Any employer complicit in a scam to hire illegals, e.g. charging a fee for fake papers needs to be dealt with. However, if theyā€™re going through the hoops and the papers come back as valid, they could put themselves in hot water over discrimination claims if they arenā€™t careful. Donā€™t assume that the federal verify system works and the problem is all at the local level.

Not trying to countrpoint you, but I find it quaint that I see lots of MS13 graffiti in portajohns on locked construction sites. A gangbanger with a day job just seems more acceptable somehow.

Those portajohns get moved around all over the place. Not saying that someone from a gang like that ISNT working a day job, but thereā€™s a good chance the graffiti was done elsewhere and the sweat box was relocated for the new job site with the tags already there

The company was actually cooperating with ICE in their investigation of identity theft by illegal aliens.
Maybe more employers should act as bait for illegals.
By the way, when Obama's information was entered into the electronic verification system it was said to have come back as probable fraud.

I figured, but in keeping with the "noble immigrant" narrative being pushed, my comment was more sarcastic than anything

I wonder if " E-verify " is to blame for this? It would not surprise me to find out that this Gov system is rigged "allowing illegal people " to work.
It allowed Obama to be president. Then he had the rules for notification changed.
Worker bee: "The SSN does up with 5 different names working in 5 different states."
Supervisor: "All good. The new rules say that is fine. "

NCDMV: "No you cannot use your US issued passport as an ID because the name doesn't exactly match what Social Security has on file as your name or your name as it appears on your birth certificate." (yes, this is actually how the rules apply to US citizens. )

and your yard would look terrible... just sayin'
Mine already does. Probably because I do the work myself. ;)
I have to follow the @fieldgrade 20 feet rule I believe it was: from 20 feet away, weeds look green.

Edit to add: I am curious about the rules for detaining employees under this sort of situation. I had a ram radio discussion this morning with a guy whose BIL showed up to work there yesterday. He is a non Hispanic, natural born citizen. He had to show his ID and then was confined, not allowed to use a John or anything, and not "free to go". He was never questioned or anything and finally released. He had no idea what was going on and didn't find out until it was over. He believes he was unlawfully detained.

Every new toilet we have set on a site comes with the walls cleaned of all graffiti/vandalism.
The one infront of my house when it was being built wasn't cleared. It had "God hates Boone(one of the workers)" followed by "Boone eats pu$$y".
